Chapter 29 Lack of Insight
o dig in,
Seeing Hazel and Leo about to dig in, Bianca dragged Lark over.
Hazel, finally free from the pestering Trik, didn’t expect to bump into these two troublemakers again. She frowned hard. “Bianca, quit yelling. Didn’t Dad tell you to behave at these things?”
Bianca’s face soured, but she wasn’t about to back down.
Lark, on the other hand, didn’t have any elder’s advice to fall back on and bit her lip in anger.
Just as she was about to blow her top, she spotted Lucius Orsini heading their way.
The only reason she even showed up to this snooze–fest was because of Lucius, the hotshot director and bigwig at the York Group’s media company.
Her role got snatched last time, and it was Lucius who made that call.
As just an internationally acclaimed director, Lucius certainly wouldn’t deign to attend the York family’s banquet.
But he had another role; he was an orphan Nash had adopted and always held in high regard.
“Mr. Orsini,” Lark greeted experly.
Lucius recognized her, they were both in the entertainment biz.
“Miss Murphy.” He nodded politely.
“Mr. Orsini, why didn’t I get that role last time?” Lark cut to the chase.
“Look, directors don’t call all the shots. I was overruled by the investors,” Lucius explained,
“How can that be? Don’t you have shares in our company?” Lark was getting anxious
“I mean, it was a decision from the higher–ups at headquarters. Lucius shifted the blame to the York Group.
“The York Group? Lark’s face darkened.
Stellar Entertainment bad always been self–sufficient and ran independently.
“Could it have been Nico?” Lark mustered to herself.
When she confronted Nico last time, he didn’t less up.
“Why don’t you ask him directly?” Lucis said, a hint of impatience in his eyes as he pointed behind him.
Lark turned to see Nico and Ambrose Valois entering the venue together.
They weren’t fans of these formal events, but today was important, so they showed up, albeit fashionably late.
“Mr. Orsini,” Lark wasn’t ready to give up, I know your relationship with Mr. York. Even if someone’s stirring the pot behind the scenes, one word from you and that role would be mine,” She handed him a pre–prepared note, “Let’s talk alone if possible. Stay in touch.” She flashed a seductive smile.
“Miss Murphy, the shoot starts tomorrow, and the cast is set. I’m really sorry, but there’s nothing I can do.” Lucius tossed the note into a nearby trash can.
Lark’s face twisted in anger. She’d been in the entertainment industry for years and hadn’t faced much hardship thanks to her family background, but now Lucius was openly dismissing her
d it in the
She had fought tooth and nail for this role because it was a real standout part.
- She’d already lowered herself and made sacrifices, thinking she had it hag, but Lucius’s blunt rejection hit her like a ton of bricks,
“Sorry.” Lucius walked past her and turned to leave.
Lark was still trying to figure out how to make an impression on Lucius when she heard mocking laughter nearby.
She turned to se
to ue Allegra looking at her with a smug expression.
akschett braved with anger as she glared at Allegra’s arogant figure.
Chapter 29 Lack of insight
She thought, Why does someone like Allegra deserve to be at such a high–end event? She stole my role and even showed up at Nash x 70th birthday celebration.
Lark was a newly popular actress, but she had always been proud because of her family background.
Allegra, on the other hand, had clawed her way up, probably by cozying up to a lot of people. How could someone so lowly mock
Bianca had been watching from the sidelines and didn’t dare approach Lark, fearing trouble.
Meanwhile, the host’s voice suddenly echoed through the banquet hall, signaling that the birthday celebration was about to begin.
Everyone’s attention turned to the center stage.
Leo casually ate two pieces of cake before being pulled onto the stage.
The host said, “Distinguished guests, good evening. I am tonight’s host. Thank you all for attending Mr. York’s 70th birthday celebration
To host such an event, the host had to be top–notch, and within a few words, the atmosphere was already buzzing.
Amidst the enthusiastic applause. Nash was wheeled to the center stage.
Beside him was Leo, dressed in a sharp tailcast
All eyes were on Nash and Leo, but Erit ́s face turned ashen.
Even if he was slow, he realized that Leo’s identity on stage was something special.
“Who would have thought time flies so fast? In the blink of an eye, I’m already 70 and its time to retire. Today is my birthday, and I’d like to introduce my grandson, George. George will be staying in Phoenix City from now on, and I hope you all will support him. Nash, full of energy and with a loud voice. implied that the York Group would be fully entrusted to George
The host handed the microphone to George, who had just stepped onto the stage.
George’s cold eyes scanned the crowd below,
At this moment, he exuded the aura of royalty, looking down on everyone.
“Hello, everyone. I am George.” His magnetic voice was deep and sexy.
Erik’s face turned even paler, and his legs almost gave out. How could that bodyguard he George himself?
“Erik, isn’t that the bodyguard you just mentioned?” Ent’s friends looked puzzled.
Another playboy chimed in, I told you, with his aura, how could he be a bodyguard? Look at that suit he’s wearing. It’s worth millions of dollars.”
Erik’s face was extremely ugly.
He recalled greeting George’s assistant in front of everyone, calling him Mr. York. Remembering the looks his friends gave him, Erik felt like a complete idiot He wished he could turn back time.
He felt both pain and shame!
