was confused. “My job is to take care of you. What’s wrong with that?”
Lucas shook his head, seeming a bit disappointed.
“At least she doesn’t treat me like that,” he muttered.
She? Who’s she?
Before I could ask, Lucas said he was tired and wanted to go back to his room to rest.
The tofu soup on the table had long gone cold. He didn’t even glance at it once.
For the next few days, he continued to go out frequently. Seeing that his mood seemed stable, I didn’t interfere.
March 4th was his birthday. I decided to organize an art exhibition for him.
I knew this had always been his greatest wish.
When Emma heard about it, she volunteered to help with the venue and planning.
I took out all the paintings Lucas had done over the years.
He was a perfectionist. Every time he finished a painting, he would find something unsatisfactory. Then he would fly into a rage and tear the draft to pieces.
It broke my heart. I could only collect the pieces when he wasn’t looking and painstakingly piece them back together.
Emma was amazed. As she admired the paintings, she sighed, “Lucas truly has talent. But the luckiest thing in his life is marrying a good wife like you.”
I gave a bitter smile. If only he thought the same.
I stayed up for several nights, writing a short description for each painting, trying to see the world from his perspective.
Emma thought I was overdoing it. But I just wanted to use this method to let more people know him, understand him, and accept him.
On his birthday, Lucas appeared at the entrance of the exhibition hall in a suit.
The invited guests all exclaimed in surprise. Was this some new top celebrity in the entertainment industry?
Lucas looked a bit nervous. I smiled and waved at him, encouraging him to come forward.
It was clear that he was very shocked. Every painting here was his hard work. It was also the meaning of his existence.
“Did you do all this?” he asked.
