I nodded. “How is it? Do you like it?”
“Thank you. I recently painted a new one, better than all of these. Can you help me hang it up?”
After I agreed, he took out a huge portrait of a woman.
This was the first time Lucas had painted a human figure. I couldn’t help but be curious.
“Who is she? Is she your model?”
“No, she’s my friend,” Lucas said, smiling with a gentleness I had never seen before in his eyes.
“Friend?”
“What, you think I’m not worthy of having friends?” he snapped.
O
“Of course not,” I quickly said. It was his birthday, and I didn’t want to upset him. I hurriedly found the most prominent position and hung up the
painting.
For the rest of the time, he just stood in front of the painting frame, staring at the woman in the picture without blinking.
No matter who tried to talk to him, he ignored them all.
Emma was very angry, feeling that my sincere efforts had been wasted.
“What’s going on? He couldn’t have cheated, could he?” she whispered to me.
“Impossible. He doesn’t even understand what love is…” I trailed off as another commotion arose behind us.
“Oh my God, isn’t that the beauty from the painting?” someone exclaimed.
I looked up and saw a young woman in a white dress, with two braids, bouncing towards us.
The woman’s aura was fresh and bright, her smile as warm as the spring sunshine, making people want to get close to her.
“Mr. Foster, how could you exhibit the painting without my permission? You’ve violated my portrait rights!” she said playfully.
Lucas’s eyes lit up, his voice trembling with excitement. “How did you come here?”
“I came to celebrate your birthday, of course. What, you’re not happy to see me?” she teased.
“Of course not! I’m very happy you came!” Lucas replied earnestly.
As the two chatted more and more happily, Emma couldn’t hold back anymore.
“Today’s exhibition is by invitation only. May I ask if this young lady has an invitation?” she asked coldly.
The woman lowered her head, looking frightened. “I’m sorry, I… I don’t…”
“I invited her,” Lucas said, pulling the woman behind him and glaring at me angrily.
My heart felt a bit sour, but I still forced a smile. “Lucas, won’t you introduce this lady to us?”
“My name is Chloe Green. I’m an art student and also Mr. Foster’s fan,” the woman said, her hands unconsciously climbing up Lucas’s arm.
He didn’t dodge.
“I heard Mr. Foster say he’s married. You must be Mrs. Foster. You’re much prettier than I imagined, Chloe said to me.
“Just on the surface, Lucas said coldly, his face full of undisguised disgust.

“Mr. Foster, how can you say that? Aria has taken care of you for so many years and worked so hard to organize this exhibition for you. She almost collapsed from exhaustion. How can you belittle her in front of another woman?” Emma snapped.
“I’m just stating facts,” Lucas said, not feeling he had done anything wrong. Instead, he continued to mock me in front of everyone.
“She doesn’t understand art at all.”
Chloe couldn’t stop smiling. “It doesn’t matter if Mrs. Foster doesn’t understand. I’m willing to be Mr. Foster’s confidant. May I have the honor of hearing Mr. Foster personally introduce these paintings?”
Lucas nodded, took her hand, and walked towards another direction.
“This is too much,” Emma said, clenching her fists, wanting to stand up for me.
I stopped her and finally made up my mind.
“I want a divorce.”
