Chapter 6
The cold was creeping in fast now.

Even though I was wrapped tightly in Alpha Francis’s arms, his warmth couldn’t stop the chill settling into my bones. It was a terrifying kind of cold. I could feel the blood draining from me, feel my heart growing weaker with each sluggish beat.
I was slipping.
And I knew it.
My body trembled against him. I couldn’t stop it. My hands, my lips, everything was shaking like I was caught in the middle of a winter storm, and no amount of strength could pull me out.
Tears slid down my cheeks without me even realizing it.
“Francis…” I murmured, my voice thin and

His arms tightened around me, the muscles in his jaw locking hard. He didn’t look at me right away–just stared straight ahead like he could outrun death itself if he focused hard enough.
“Die?” he said, voice low and rough. “You haven’t even agreed to marry me yet. Without my permission, even the devil wouldn’t dare take you.”
Somehow, that made me laugh.
A weak, breathless little sound, but it was real.
I tilted my head up to look at him. And for the first time, I saw it–past the cold, past the stoicism and sharp edges he wore like armor. I saw fear.
Not for himself.
For me.

“If I survive this…” I whispered, lips barely moving, “I’ll marry you.”
And then everything started to fade.
My voice. The world. The light.
I closed my eyes… and let the darkness take

Third–person POV
“Sophia?” Alpha Francis panicked. “Sophia!”
But she didn’t respond.
“Drive faster!” he roared at the driver.
Startled, the driver slammed his foot down on the gas. The tires screamed against the road as the car sped through the streets.
Alpha Francis held her tighter, pressing a kiss to her clammy forehead. “Don’t be scared,” he whispered hoarsely. “You’re not

allowed to die. You’re going to be fine. I swear it.”
When they reached the hospital, he burst through the doors with Sophia in his arms.
The emergency team was already prepared thanks to his call. They rushed her into the operating room, IVs and blood bags following close behind.
Outside the OR, Alpha Francis paced like a caged beast, his hands clenched into fists, jaw tight, murderous energy radiating off him. Then, he looked up–and spotted Alpha Lawrence and Miranda not far away.
Lawrence looked uneasy, sitting in the waiting room while repeatedly calling Sophia’s number. Each time, the call went unanswered.
That had never happened before.
Sophia had always been the one calling him.

Whether he answered or not had always been up to his mood.
A dark shadow suddenly fell across him.
Lawrence looked up–and met Alpha ) Francis’s eyes.
What he saw made his blood run cold.
There was no mistaking it: Alpha Francis looked like a wolf ready to tear something apart. Blood still stained his shirt. His entire body was tense with rage, the kind that barely held itself back from violence.
Miranda squeaked and instinctively ducked behind Lawrence, who stepped in front of her protectively.
“Alpha Francis! What a coincidence… Are you hurt?” Lawrence asked, forcing a shaky smile.
Alpha Francis’s eyes narrowed as he

watched Lawrence shield Miranda like some devoted mate. His voice was sharp as a blade. “You’re divorcing Sophia… to be with this woman?”
Lawrence coughed awkwardly. “Y–Yeah. Miranda’s pregnant. I… I want to give the pup a name. A place in the pack.”
Alpha Francis’s expression darkened further. “Your waiting period is up. Go collect the divorce certificate tomorrow.”
Then he turned and walked away without another word, ignoring the stunned looks from both of them.
Miranda blinked in confusion, then beamed. “Wow, Lawrence! Alpha Francis seemed scary, but he’s actually kind–hearted! He must feel bad for me being pregnant and wants us to get married quickly!”
Lawrence didn’t share her joy. Instead, unease stirred in his chest.

Lawrence didn’t share her joy. Instead, unease stirred in his chest.
Since when did Alpha Francis concern himself with other people’s relationships?
Lowering his eyes to his phone, he saw the call log–forty–something missed calls. Not a single one answered.
For the first time in years… Sophia didn’t pick
- up.
Was this her playing hard to get?
Annoyance flared in his chest. He fired off a text:
“Sophia, are you seriously ignoring me on purpose? You said you weren’t mad. Now you’re pulling this jealous crap? Fine. Ignore all you want. The divorce certificate will be ready tomorrow. Cooperate, and maybe I’ll even consider remarrying you later.”
