Chapter 3
Ember chuckled in my head. “A cheating man is like a rotten cucumber–useless, stinks when left too long, and not worth holding on to.”
“Fine, then!” I hissed, my voice steady
despite the raw edges of my heart. “Let’s get that divorce. After everything you’ve done, I couldn’t care less. But let me make this clear, Alpha Joseph–you’re the one I’m leaving behind!”
I straightened my back, leveling them both. with a cold, defiant stare. “I, Britney Howell, reject you, Joseph Cantrell, as my mate.”
The mate bond snapped like a taut string finally cut, sending a blinding pain searing through my soul. It felt like a thousand claws

tearing at my chest, but I gritted my teeth and forced my feet to move. There was no way I’d let those two see even a flicker of weakness.
Behind me, Omega Amanda’s saccharine voice dripped with mock concern. “Alpha Joseph, are you alright? Should we take you to the pack hospital? Britney was so cruel- no alpha deserves such treatment!”
Alpha Joseph’s growl was low and menacing, even as he remained hunched over in pain. “You’d better watch your back, Britney. You’ll regret this, mark my words!”
“Regret?” Ember snorted in my mind, her tone drenched in scorn. “What a joke! The only regret we have is ever marrying him.”
At my 18th Bat Mitzvah I changed shifts for the first time.

Alpha Joseph fell in love with me at first sight, his golden eyes alight with joy as he whispered, “Mine.”
always thought we could be together forever.
when I thought of the past–the moments we shared–tears involuntarily streamed down my face.
I realized I would never forgive Alpha Joseph.
I could never forgive the man who once loved me so much, but had now turned into this bastard.
I wanted to confront him, to ask what those past moments meant anymore!

What about the “I love you” and “I’ll take care of you for a lifetime” he once promised?!
He had been the only thing keeping me going through those long years…
How… how could it all fall apart so easily?
The cool evening air kissed my skin as I exited the building, my chest tightening.
Parked by the door was a sleek black Lincoln limousine. Standing beside it was a man I recognized instantly–Daniel Rodriguez, Beta of the Blue Rock Pack.
He adjusted his gold–rimmed glasses and offered me a polite smile as he stepped forward. “Luna Britney,” he said with a bow of his head. “The Alpha King is expecting you.”
The Alpha King? Alpha Leonard wanted to

see me?!
I narrowed my eyes, a sharp sting of defiance in them.
Without a word, I slipped into the car, my movements deliberate and subdued.
The strange text message that led me here was just the beginning. What I found in that bed was beyond shocking–Alpha Leonard’s nephew and his fiancée, tangled together. And now, his beta was waiting for me outside.
If none of this had anything to do with him, I wouldn’t believe it for a second.
But… why was Alpha Leonard looking for me? What could he possibly want?
I recalled how people spoke of Alpha

Leonard, the True Alpha King who wielded control over the entire Blue Rock Pack.
“Young genius” and “genius doomed by fate” were the two phrases that defined him – before and after the rogues‘ attack.
The only thing that remained unchanged was the word “genius,” a testament to his excellence and strength.
Only fools like Alpha Joseph and Omega Amanda would believe that Alpha Leonard was ruined just because of the rogues‘ attack.
But why had he sought me out?
A bold guess began to form in my mind.
Maybe… I still had another choice.

When the car arrived at its destination, I saw Alpha Leonard.
The handsome man, even seated in a wheelchair, still exuded the commanding presence of someone in power.
Suddenly, I remembered the first time I met Alpha Leonard.
At that time, Alpha Joseph and I had just gotten married, and I was sent by my mother to visit the Alpha king of the Blue Rock Pack.
I had expected him to be an insufferably difficult person to deal with, but when he sat in the shadows, he only asked me one question, and his voice carried a hint of quiet.
sorrow.
“Britney, have you truly made up your mind to marry Alpha Joseph?”

I was taken aback by his question and, in a daze, I blurted out a reply.
“Why wouldn’t I?”
He shook his head, offering a soft laugh before simply saying,
“I understand now. Please see Britney out.”
After that, I never saw him again. All I knew about him came from various online reports.
And those reports had nothing but praise for him.
Unfortunately, the latest piece of news was:
“The Alpha king of Blue Rock Pack, Alpha Leonard, tragically suffered the rogues‘ attack and became paralyzed, a genius

fallen…”
At this thought, I glanced regretfully at his long legs, hidden under a blanket.
Could he really never stand again?
