Chapter 5
“Mein Herz schlägt nur für dich.”
“My heart beats only for you.”
Alpha Leonard confessed to me in French, holding up the book that symbolized our bond.
Those words were once written by me, during the days when my heart first fluttered for him.
I blushed instantly.
I had always thought he didn’t understand French.
Turns out, my little secret had been discovered long ago.

And finally, I understood–the man who made my heart race wasn’t Alpha Joseph; it was Alpha Leonard.
It wasn’t that he had changed his heart–it was that I had mistaken the person all along!
Alpha Leonard, noticing my flushed face, smiled softly.
“I never knew my little mate’s judgment would be so poor, mistaking that fool Alpha Joseph for me!”
I couldn’t help but retort.
“It wasn’t that! After I returned to the country, I couldn’t contact you anymore. I almost thought… you didn’t want me anymore.”
As I spoke, my eyes welled up with tears.

Alpha Leonard’s heart ached.
He lowered his head, apologizing.
“I’m sorry, Britney,” he said, his voice laced with regret. “I was in an accident. It took me a long time to recover. That’s why…”
His words trailed off, and my gaze instinctively dropped to his legs.
So, he hadn’t been able to come find me after all.
I shook my head, heart aching for him.
“It’s okay,” I whispered. “At least we’ve found each other again.”
Tears shimmered in my eyes.

Alpha Leonard tenderly brushed my hair, his hand gentle.
Just then, my phone rang–it was my father calling.
“How dare you refuse my telepathy? Get your arse back right now.”
His tone left no room for argument.
Alpha Leonard frowned in displeasure.
“Britney, if this is about your family, I can…”
I shook my head.
“No need, Alpha Leonard. I can already guess it’s Omega Amanda running off to complain, trying to force me to go back and divorce Alpha Joseph, so she can have him all to herself. Just what I needed… ”

Alpha Leonard studied me, his expression unreadable.
“I won’t let this slide, I continued, fire igniting in my veins. “The Crystal Blood Pack was my mother’s legacy–her life’s work. Why should they profit while I lose everything?”
Hatred flickered in my eyes, and Alpha Leonard nodded, a faint glimmer of respect evident in his gaze.
“Okay, Britney,” he said. “I trust you to handle this.”
I smiled faintly and knelt, taking his hand in mine. “Take care of yourself, Alpha Leonard. When I come back, I’ll marry you.”
Leonard’s lips curved into a rare, genuine smile. “I’ll wait for my Luna Britney to return

to me.”
When I got home, Omega Amanda, my dad, and her mother, Luna Roxanne, were all sitting in the living room, scrutinizing me.
“Bang!”
The ashtray flew toward me, and I sidestepped it easily, watching as it shattered against the wall.
My father stood, his face flushed with rage as he pointed his cane at me.
“You ungrateful brat! How many times have I told you to stop embarrassing me, embarrassing Crystal Blood Pack? Why can’t you just follow orders?”
Omega Amanda and My stepmother Roxanne put on their usual act, dabbing

at imaginary tears and playing the role of concerned bystanders.
“Calm down, dear,‘ My stepmother Roxanne cooed.” Britney has been through so much -losing her mother at such a young age. Surely we can overlook her behavior.”
I let out a dry laugh, pulling up a chair and crossing my legs with practiced nonchalance.
“Embarrassing, you say? Father, perhaps you should clarify. Whose name is actually on the marriage certificate with Alpha Joseph? Because the last time I checked, it wasn’t omega Amanda’s.”
I leaned forward, my voice sharp and cutting.
The world’s changed so much, hasn’t it? Since when did it become some kind of legendary tale for a sister and her

brother–in–law to be caught in bed together, while the one whose mate got stolen away is painted as the villain–the one everyone mocks and shames?”
My words hit their mark.
Amanda’s face turned ghostly pale, and My stepmother Roxanne’s carefully composed expression cracked.
My father’s mouth opened and closed like a fish gasping for air, his fury rendering him speechless.
“You–you–you!” he sputtered, his cane trembling in his grip.
But before he could regain his composure, My stepmother Roxanne’s sharp mind went to work.
