When Josepnine suddenly tпanked me out of nowhere, I froze–completely thrown off and panicked.
She said she believed my explanation, but something in me felt…off. A quiet unease I couldn’t shake.
On the way back, she murmured about how the wedding dress fitting had failed, and just like that, the image of that bright, lively little girl resurfaced in my mind. Only then did my doubts ease.
These past few days, Claire had returned to the country earlier than expected, so I took the opportunity to hide away in Crown Shadow Pack, spending time with Claire.
The proposal–it just slipped out. A moment of impulse.
I’d actually rehearsed proposal lines countless times while preparing a romantic scene for Josephine.

So when I blurted out “Marry me,” it came out almost too easily, like second nature.
While hiding out, I deliberately avoided checking my phone. Still, my heart itched constantly–I couldn’t stop thinking about Josephine for even a second.
I imagined her worried, maybe even crying…
And in that moment, a voice inside me spoke clearly and undeniably:
I’ve fallen for Josephine.
But I tried to fight it.
I told myself bitter lies, speaking words of revenge aloud just to anchor myself.
Claire’s mother and my mother–they both suffered at the hands of mistresses.
Josephine is the daughter of a mistress.

She doesn’t deserve real happiness.
The one who truly deserved love was the girl I saved when I was eleven–the one I pulled back from the brink of death: Claire.
“Lucas, I’ve officially returned to Eclipse pack today and reclaimed my identity. Tomorrow the news will break–I’m Eclipse pack’s eldest daughter who’s marrying the Silver Claw Pack Alpha Lucas! We can finally be together openly. I’m so happy!”
Strangely enough, my heart felt… complicated.
I casually asked,
“What about Josephine?”
Claire stared at me in disbelief, her expression frozen. A moment later, tears welled in her eyes as she accused me:
ucas have you really fallen for losephine.

“Lucas, have you really fallen for Josephine after all these years of pretending? Did you forget I’m the one you were supposed to protect? I’m pregnant with your pup!”
I brushed her off. “Don’t overthink it.”
I was getting irritated, rubbing at my temples.
By all accounts, everything was going according to plan. Claire was pregnant, and our long–standing scheme had succeeded. Everything was on track–except for one thing:
I never got to see Josephine completely heartbroken, never got to see her collapse in despair.
Even more absurd, just yesterday I’d promised I’d go wedding dress shopping with Josephine.
But the next day, our planned itinerary

was suddenly swapped. I was told we’d be returning to the Silver Claw Pack estate instead.
And inexplicably, I felt a strange sense of relief.
When we arrived, my grandpa smashed a glass across the room in a fury.
“You ungrateful bastard! Just last night I told Josephine to try and be patient with your temper–and this is how you repay her? She’s such a good girl and now she’s forced to flee the Eclipse pack to recover from what you did? Your dad was right–you’re lucky if you don’t ruin every person you touch.”
The phrase “flee the Eclipse pack to heal” echoed in my mind. My heart dropped.
“Josephine left the Eclipse pack?”
My grandpa let out a long, disappointed sigh.
“It’s my fault. I didn’t teach you right”

He stared at my childhood photo, his eyes misting over.
“She was in this for the long haul. She cried when I told her about your past, about the pain you endured growing up. A girl like that -you had to go and hurt her. Once she’s gone, you don’t even deserve the chance to regret it.”
The words “painful childhood” stabbed through me, awakening memories I tried hard to bury.
I forced a scoff.
“Why should I be the one unworthy? She took what should’ve belonged to Claire. She’s just the daughter of a mistress–she doesn’t deserve happiness.”
My grandpa looked at me like I was something inhuman. The disappointment in his eyes was devastating.

“Half of the Eclipse pack was built by Josephine’s grandfather, the head of the Franklin family. He did it all for his biological granddaughter. Everyone in the circle knows how much her parents loved each other before they got married. Who the hell is this ‘Claire‘ you keep talking about? Lucas, I wasted years trying to raise you right, and you can’t even see people for who they are.”
Before I could respond, he threw a thick stack of photographs at me.
In the pictures, Claire was partying in a neon–lit club, hair dyed bright blonde–taken during her time in the abord.
“Clean up your mess. The Silver Claw Pack won’t accept a Luna riddled with scandals.”
My head spun. I couldn’t breathe.
I stumbled out of the house in a daze.
I didn’t even get a word in before Josephine’s

mother slammed the door on me at Eclipse pack estate.
When I turned around, I saw Alpha Terry.
He wore a smug, mocking smile.
“Congratulations on the wedding,” he said sarcastically.
I wasn’t in the mood. I swung at him.
He hit back without hesitation.
“Alpha Lucas, you’re a piece of shit. Why couldn’t you treat her right? I spent ten years watching over her and I still couldn’t win her heart.”
“You dragged her along for ten years. What makes you better than me?” I snapped.
Alpha Terry scoffed coldly.
“You’re right. I’m no saint. I missed out on ten

years with her–that’s on me. But at least I didn’t let her fall into your hands the moment you came back.
He laughed bitterly and continued:
“You? You were completely duped by someone like Claire. You’re the real disgrace here.”
“Claire,” he spat, “was just an adopted daughter enjoying the riches of the Eclipse pack. She dared to compete with the real heiress. She knew Josephine liked me, so she deliberately staged scenes for Josephine to ‘accidentally‘ walk in on–like catching us two being intimate.”
“She even pushed Josephine down the stairs, which permanently injured her right hand. She couldn’t play piano anymore. And if not for that song you used to move her, do you think you would’ve won her heart?”
“Oh, and one more thing” he said, looking down at me, “Josephine is the little girl we
