Sebastian spoke so casually, as though I had just been a temporary placeholder for him these past two years.
Once I’m no longer useful, I’m discarded.
I smiled, tucked the check and keys into my pocket, and signed the marking release agreement.
I took my share and handed him his portion back.
My adoptive parents had only forced me to release the mark, never once considering what it meant for me.
At least Sebastian had the decency to offer me some compensation–it wasn’t all for nothing, looking after him for two years.
Sebastian clearly hadn’t expected me to be so blunt.

He stared at the agreement in a daze while I turned away, gathering my things.
When I arrived, I had very little to carry, and when I left, I had even less.
The clothes, jewelry, and Omega items the Stones had provided me after the wedding–I didn’t take a single thing.
I packed only my personal belongings and a few outfits I had bought myself. One suitcase, and I was done.
The whole process barely took half an hour. By the time I was ready to leave, Sebastian was still sitting on the sofa, deep in thought.
I waved him off, said my goodbyes to the Stone patriarch and Luna, then walked out of the Stone pack.
They just nodded, clearly already knowing Sebastian’s decision.

A cold–hearted pack of wolves, indeed. We had lived under the same roof for two years after the bond, yet even the lowest Omega would have formed some sort of attachment.
But I, too, was an Omega. To them, I wasn’t even worth more than a servant.
Why compare myself to a servant?
In their eyes, I was nothing but a substitute, never one of their own kind.
I let out a bitter chuckle as I left the pack I had called home for the last two years.
I, Luka, was finally free!
But I’m also dying.
I found a hotel, booked a room, turned off the signal blocker, and collapsed onto the bed.
Two years of living on edge, and now, I could

sleep as long as I wanted, without having to wake up early and chase after Sebastian.
Finally, I could do whatever I wanted. But unfortunately, my time was running out.
I checked my phone–no missed calls, no
messages.
No one cared about me. No one thought about me. But that’s okay. I still had myself.
I scrolled through my contacts, found the familiar profile picture, but in the end, I held back.
Since we had already parted ways, ! shouldn’t disturb my human boyfriend.
I had about four months left. I was going to see all the places I had never been.
I pulled out my passport, the one I hadn’t used since I got it, and booked the next available flight to Switzerland.

Switzerland was the place i nad always wanted to visit.
I had planned my honeymoon there with James, my human boyfriend.
We’d planned to see the snowy mountains, ski together, visit ice houses, and admire waterfalls.
But after I was forced to accept Sebastian’s mark, we had never seen each other again.
Though I no longer had someone to share the sights with, the sights were still there.
I checked out of the hotel, confirmed my flight, bought a DSLR camera, and then headed to the wolf pack’s clinic.
After getting a prescription to ease my gland failure, I felt a little lighter and made my way straight to the airport.
As I entered the terminal, an unexpected figure caught my eye–it was James!

Though he was wearing a mask, I’d recognize those eyes anywhere.

Two years apart, and his gaze had matured, losing the youthful softness and gaining a deeper steadiness.
I hadn’t expected to see him here, and instinctively, I stepped back to hide.
James stood tall and striking amidst the crowd. Meanwhile, I felt worn down after two years, looking older than I really was.
Because of my gland failure, my face had grown pale and gaunt. I wasn’t the youthful beauty I once was.
I gave a self–deprecating smile, unsure why I was hiding.
Maybe if I stood in front of James now, he wouldn’t even recognize this exhausted Omega.

I watched as James walked past my hiding spot, and only then did I slowly step out from behind the pillar.
I hadn’t taken more than two steps forward when a voice stopped me dead in my tracks.
“James, you’re back! I came to pick you up. Are you happy to see me?”
It was Rose’s voice!
How did she know James? Why was she here to pick him up?
