Chapter 15 Fateful Reunion
Nevea
The day of my big assignment had arrived. I would cover Luna Andrea’s fashion show and the highlight of the season. It was supposed to be a career–defining moment, yet Kai was all I could think about. Since that day he dropped me to my apartment, he lingered in my mind despite my efforts to push him out.
I shook my head, grabbed my bag, and headed out the door. Any personal drama had no place today. I had to do well today if I wanted to be an editor in the future.
The venue was loud and filled with excitement. Models flitted between makeup stations, and designers rushed to finalize their looks. I got swept with the moment because it was my first time
attending such a huge event. I was
impressed with all the designer clothes, the beauty of the models, and the dedication of

every designer.
“Nevea!” Julie called out from the press
area.
She was balancing a camera and notepad. She was smiling but I could see stress was
etched all over her face.
“We’ve got a lot to do. This show is huge, and everyone‘ s expecting something spectacular,” she said with a hint of
urgency.
I nodded and forced a smile.
“I‘ ll head backstage and get interviews with the designers. Let’s make this quick. Otherwise, they will ignore us the moment the show starts.”
“You‘ re a lifesaver!”
Julie flashed a grateful grin before diving back into what she was doing.
Backstage was pure chaos. Clothes flew around, stylists barked orders, and models were being rushed from one station to the

next. I focused on my job, determined to ignore the nagging feeling that something
was off.
But my instincts wouldn’t shut up. There was a heavy and unsettling sensation as if I was being watched. I glanced around but saw nothing unusual, just the usual backstage frenzy.
“Focus, Nevea,” I muttered, flipping my notepad.
Interviews. That was my goal, not whatever weird vibes were creeping up on me.
I had just wrapped up talking to one of the lead designers when the prickling on the back of my neck returned and stronger this time. My pulse quickened, and I scanned the room again.
Nothing. Just busy workers, models, and photographers. Yet, I couldn’t shake it, off. Why did I feel this way? Was I going crazy because this feeling had been like this since I came to Idaho?

Then, a voice cut through the crowd and my thoughts.
“Neven.”
My heart skipped. I turned, and there he was. Kai, standing just a few feet away, his face unreadable. But he still looked
handsome as the first time I came to know he was my mate.
“What are you doing here?” I blurted, struggling to keep my voice steady. He couldn’t be here, not now, not in the middle of this.
Kai took a step closer, and his eyes scanned. the room before looking at me.
“I had a feeling something was off. I’ve been gathering information and watching you.”
I stared at him with irritation bubbling up.
“Watching me? Are you serious, Kai? You don’t need to follow me. I can take care of myself.”

“You need me,” he said firmly.
“There’s danger here, Nevea. You‘ re being followed.”
My stomach twisted with those words.
“What? By whom? And why?”
Before he could answer, the lights suddenly dimmed. The show was starting, but the unease gnawing at me only grew stronger.
“Kai…”
“Stay close. We don’t have match time,” he interrupted, eyes narrowing while looking around.
Suddenly, the backstage door swung open. A group of tall men walked in. They were too calm and coordinated to be considered as one of the event staff. My wolf instincts.
screamed at me.
Rogues.
The backstage exploded into chaos. People screamed, models ran, and the intruders.

closed in. I turned to flee, but one of the rogues was already reaching for me. And before I could react, Kai lunged. His wolf form erupted mid–leap, slamming into the rogue and sending him crashing into a clothing rack. The noise was deafening, but I barely registered it. My mind raced as I stumbled backward, heart pounding.
Kai’s wolf growled. It was low and dangerous as he saw a rogue between me. His eyes gleamed with fury as the intruders. circled him. But Kai wasn‘ t the Alpha for nothing.
He attacked the nearest rogue, his jaws. locking onto the man’s shoulder. A sickening crunch echoed through the air as the rogue screamed. But Kai didn’t stop. He moved like lightning and took down the second rogue easily.
I watched in stunned silence as the two
men lay unconscious on the floor. Kai
stood over them, his eyes glowing. Slowly, he shifted back into his human form, chest

heaving.
“Are you okay?” he asked, his voice rough, still thick with adrenaline.
I nodded, though my legs felt like jelly.
“I… I think so.”
“I’m sorry, Nevea. I didn’t want you caught up in this. I know how much this job meant to you.”
I swallowed hard while listening to Kai.
“What the hell is going on, Kai? Why were they after me? Was it because of you?”
His jaw clenched and his eyes darkened in
anger.
“There’s more to this fashion show than you think. Luna Andrea was the target. They assumed you were connected and you, almost looked like her. which is why they are coming for you. I had to make sure you were safe.”
I blinked and tried to process whatever he

was saying. But my head was still in a daze.
“So… what now?”
Kai took a deep breath, and his expression softened a bit.
“Now? We have to fight Nevea. Let’s finish this. Together.”
I hesitated for a moment, overwhelmed by everything that had just happened. I didn’t understand half of what he was talking about, but the look in his eyes told me one thing: he wasn‘ t leaving my side.
“Okay,” I whispered, stepping closer. “Together.”
