Chapter 6
I sent Alpha Lucas the photo. Because he’s rejected all my telepathic communication since the day we fought.
“Did you and Omega Camille take wedding photos?” he replied after a couple of minutes of typing, “Yes.”
“Camille had a wish on her list to have a wedding photoshoot with me,” he continued.
The word “wish” stung my eyes again.
“We just took a few pictures at a studio.”
“Emily, it’s not real. Please don’t overthink it. I did this to fulfill her wish.”
His messages came in quick succession,

revealing either his desperation to explain or his eagerness to distance himself from the situation.
“Okay.” I was at a loss for words.
Alpha Lucas finally inquired about me and the puppy.
“Emily, how is the puppy? Are you okay?”
“If you really want to know, there’s no need to ask. Just come back home and see for yourself.”
Alpha Lucas’s attention was entirely on Omega Camille, leaving me completely invisible to him.
I couldn’t help but confront him.
“Lucas, when will you come home?”

“I’m sorry, Emily. Camille has been coughing up blood recently. Just one more month, only a month.”
Before I could type, “Aren’t you planning to come back?” the answer had already arrived.
“Stay home and take care of yourself. I’ll take you to your check–up next week.”
But home wasn’t a sanctuary for me.
At six, my father left with his bags packed, abandoning my mother and me. All I was left with was his retreating back.
At sixteen, my mother told me she couldn’t do it anymore. I was a burden, she said- an anchor weighing her down, making it impossible for her to remarry.

So she left, too. She handed me a bank card and disappeared into a new life, a new family.
I never had a complete family. I longed for
one.
When Alpha Lucas entered my life, he promised it would be different.
“I’ll give you what you want,” he had said, holding me close, his voice full of conviction. “A family. A home.”
I believed him.
But now, at twenty–six, I was once again watching someone I loved walk away.
This time, it was my mate. The man who vowed to be different.

He had left our home of four years for his cancer–stricken first love.
He even took wedding photos with her- photos that now live on their social media, collecting likes and comments of envy.
And here I was, sitting alone in the empty house we once called ours.
How much more do I have to lose?
