Chapter 3
For many years, Myles and Cory were always together, and gradually, Brad began to soften toward Myles.
“This isn’t just my idea. Myles agreed to it too,” she said.
We looked at Myles, who slowly nodded.
“I’m not good at studying. Aunt Felia and Cory have helped me and my mom so much over the years, and I should repay you. I want to start working early to make money and help Cory go abroad for his studies.”
Rida gave a proud smile.

But I frowned and retorted, “Cory doesn’t need a child to earn money for his studies! Brad and I can fully afford it, and we can even take Myles with us!”
I saw Myles’s eyes brighten at my words.
But Rida was furious. “Myles, that little bastard! What makes him think he deserves to go abroad with Cory? He should be doing the hardest, most exhausting work to repay me and Cory!”
I felt even worse hearing those words.
Myles nodded numbly, and I knew he had already given up on himself.
Cory tugged at my sleeve, silently pleading with
his eyes.

I gently shook my head. “Sweetheart, that’s Rida’s business. We have no right to interfere.”
Years later, under my careful guidance, Cory became a key player on the football team and successfully went abroad to pursue a Ph.D.
He was outstanding, a gentleman, polite, and wherever he went, he shone like gold.
Meanwhile, Myles had dropped out of school early and started working. His body, already weak, deteriorated further after years of hard labor.
Despite this, he still sent most of his earnings back to Rida.

Rida kept some for herself, but most of the money went to Cory. However, Cory always refused it, returning it every time.
Yet, Rida insisted on sending money to Cory, and after I gave my approval, Cory accepted the money.
These were things Rida would tell me. Whenever Myles sent money back, Rida would find an excuse to call him at my home.
The speakerphone was always on, and Rida would loudly curse Myles.
“Why is this month’s payment less than last month’s? You’re really useless. What good is keeping you around?”

“Look at Cory. You’re the same age,, and he’s already got a Ph.D. abroad. How can you even compare to him? What a waste of space!!”
Every time I heard Rida berating Mylles, Il would quietly walk away, while Rida seemed pleaseded
with herself.
Cory was about to return from his studies, and I had already made it known that when he came back, I would transfer all the company’s assets
into his name.
When Rida heard Cory was coming back, she e became excited and began dressing up. p.
She used the money Myles earned from workingng to get herselff some beauty treatments and d bought severall new outfits.

“Why are you suddenly dressing up like this?” | asked her, feigning curiosity.
Rida was a little embarrassed. “I like to dress.
What’s wrong with that?”
- up.
It was true that Rida usually liked to dress up more than I did. If I wore something new, she would buy something similar the next day. If I wore a certain piece of jewelry, she would want one just like it.
Hmph! Of course, she was going to dress up. After all, she was living off my husband, Brad. She had to look good to keep him interested.
But I didn’t care at all.
