When I returned to the Reed house, Zachary was making a fuss about wanting a divorce despite his leg injury.
I threw a thick stack of bills in his face.
“If you want a divorce, pay back the money first.”
“Every single bill represents my investment in you.”

“If you want a divorce, pay back the money first.”
“Every single bill represents my investment in you.”
“You should thank Lily. I told her whoever became my brother–in–law would be exempt from the debt.”
“She chose you. Do you know how miserable Felix and Xavier are now?”
Zachary shuddered.
“Not only that, I’ll give you a portion of the family assets on your golden wedding anniversary, as long as you haven’t divorced. Zachary, you can still get the Reed family money you’ve been dreaming of.”
Zachary gradually became tempted, so he started to work hard at pleasing Lily.
Lily always avoided him, so he would care for her and ask about her well–being, just like in the early days of their relationship.
There was just one thing: Lily wouldn’t let him leave the Reed house.
But how could such a despicable couple not have conflicts?

So I occasionally sent some photos to Zachary, who couldn’t leave the house, letting him see Lily’s exciting life after marriage.
In front of other men, Lily would act coy, cry…
Just like she used to do in front of Zachary.
Whether it was out of emotion or worry that they wouldn’t make it to their golden anniversary and get the money, Zachary’s veins bulged with
anger.
When Lily came home, he hit her.
“You’re married now! Yet you’re still fooling around with other men outside!”
“No wonder you won’t let me go out, so this is what you’ve been up to!”
Lily covered her face and kicked him angrily.
“You have the nerve to say that!”
“If it weren’t for you, how would I end up like this!”
Zachary, who had been suppressing his anger for a long time, suddenly lost it. He punched and kicked her, inflicting all the violence he had once used on me onto Lily.
I called the police and demanded they divorce.
Lily and Zachary frantically waved their hands: “No divorce! We’re not divorcing!”
Even the police were stunned.
“Are you sure you don’t want a divorce?” I asked. “In the future, if I ever see you two fighting like this again, I will definitely call the police.”
The two shook their heads like rattles: “No divorce, no divorce!”
Later, they indeed stopped fighting physically, but their verbal abuse got increasingly nasty, as if they had been mortal enemies for eight
lifetimes.
Caleb asked: “Mrs. Reed, are you really planning to give them a portion of the family assets on their golden wedding anniversary?”
I smiled: “Isn’t it worth it to watch this show for several decades?”
