Ethan’s POV
I burst through the emergency entrance, Aria’s limp body cradled against my chest. Her breathing grew more shallow
with each passing second, filling me with a terror I’d never known before. Lucas stayed glued to my side, his small hand
clutching my shirt with white-knuckled determination, his eyes wide with fear.
“Alpha Ethan?” The receptionist instantly recognized me, jumping to her feet in surprise.
“Wolfsbane poisoning! It’s critical!” I commanded, my voice resonating with alpha authority that sent ripples of power
through the entire ER. “I need doctors. Now!”
The receptionist immediately grabbed her phone to page the medical team while signaling to another nurse. Within
moments, a team rushed toward us pushing a gurney, the lead doctor firing questions as he ran.
“What happened?” he demanded.
“Not entirely sure. She drank at least one glass of apple cider laced with wolfsbane—enough that I can smell the toxin
from here. She was fine two hours ago, so the poisoning can’t have happened long ago.” I kept pace with the medical
team as they whisked Aria down the corridor, Lucas now hoisted into my arms.
“Wolfsbane acts quickly,” Lucas suddenly interjected. “She needs detox and fluids to prevent organ failure.”
The doctor glanced between Lucas and me, clearly taken aback, but nodded. “That’s right.”
They wheeled Aria into a treatment room where a nurse began cutting away her clothes while another pressed her hands
against Aria’s abdomen in examination.
Lucas suddenly thrashed in my arms, letting out a growl more intimidating than any child should be capable of. “Be
careful! My sisters are in Mommy’s tummy. If you hurt them, I’ll hurt you!”
The room fell silent as all eyes turned to Lucas. My throat constricted as his words registered, every muscle in my body
tensing with disbelief.
“What did you just say?” I whispered, the words barely audible even to my own ears.
Lucas maintained his fierce glare at the nurse, his tiny jaw set with determination that mirrored his mother’s. “My sisters
are in Mommy’s tummy,” he repeated, his voice wavering but resolute. “She’s hurting them with her hands. Tell her to
stop!”
A high-pitched ringing filled my ears as the floor seemed to tilt beneath me. Sisters? Tummy? The implications crashed
into me like a physical blow, and I staggered slightly, my grip on Lucas tightening instinctively to steady myself.
Aria was pregnant.
The door burst open, interrupting my spiraling thoughts as a small, sharp-featured woman in a white coat strode in with
unmistakable authority.
“Everyone stop what you’re doing immediately,” she commanded, her voice cutting through the chaos like a blade. “I’m
taking over this case.”
The original doctor, a full head taller than her, squared his shoulders defensively. “You can’t just barge in and—”
“Aria is my patient,” she interrupted, her tone brooking no argument. “She’s carrying twin fetuses, and I’ve been
monitoring her high-risk pregnancy for weeks.” Her eyes flashed dangerously as she stepped closer to him. “She’s on a
specialized medication regimen for severe hyperemesis gravidarum and other complications. So unless you’ve suddenly
become an expert in werewolf obstetrics overnight, this case is beyond your qualifications.”
The male doctor’s face flushed with indignation, his mouth opening and closing several times before he finally stomped
toward the door, muttering under his breath about protocol breaches. The female doctor wasted no time, barking orders
to the remaining staff who scrambled to comply.

I stood frozen, watching as they connected Aria to various monitors, each beep and flash representing some vital sign I
couldn’t interpret. The room swirled around me, conversations blurring into background noise as I struggled to process
this earth-shattering revelation. 1/2
Aria was carrying my children. She must have known for weeks, perhaps months. And she hadn’t told me.
My chest tightened painfully as a portable ultrasound machine was wheeled to Aria’s bedside. The reality of the situation
crashed over me in waves, each one threatening to drown me in its intensity.
“Is it true?” I finally managed to ask, my voice sounding strange and distant to my own ears. “Is she really pregnant?”
The doctor’s focus remained on the ultrasound screen as she moved the wand across Aria’s abdomen, but her expression
shifted almost imperceptibly.
“Alpha Ethan,” she acknowledged without looking up, her tone carefully neutral. “Yes, she is. With twins, as Lucas said.”
The confirmation hit me like a physical blow. I suddenly felt light-headed, my vision narrowing as the implications
cascaded through my mind. Twins. My children. Aria poisoned. All three of them in danger.
My knees nearly buckled, and I had to lock them to remain standing. A primal fear unlike anything I’d ever experienced
clawed at my insides, threatening to tear me apart from within.
I forced myself to take a deep breath, then another, fighting for control as I clutched Lucas tighter to my chest. The room
seemed to spin as I stared at the screen, which remained completely black. The doctor frowned, clearly confused.
“What is it?” I demanded, feeling Lucas flinch in my arms. The staff cringed too, but the doctor continued moving the
ultrasound wand while the screen stayed dark. I stepped forward. “What’s wrong? I have a right to know. I’m not leaving
until I get answers.”

The doctor glanced over her shoulder at me. “I can’t explain anything to you. That would violate Aria’s doctor-patient
confidentiality—”
“I’m the father of her children.” The words scraped raw from my throat. Lucas buried his face in my shoulder, and the
room fell silent again, save for the faint beeping of the heart monitor.
The doctor hesitated, then sighed. “We can’t treat the toxin directly, but we’ll treat Aria’s symptoms. We’ll monitor her and
do our best. Right now, I can’t see or hear any signal from the twins, so I’m uncertain about their status.”
“Twins?” I swallowed, feeling the floor disappear as my entire body plummeted into a dark abyss. I tried to grasp onto
something tangible, so I pressed my hand against Lucas’s back, holding him like a lifeline. “What do you mean, you can’t
see or hear them?”
“I mean the ultrasound and monitoring equipment are showing blanks. This happened with her first pregnancy too, but I
can’t explain it to you.” The doctor’s voice was mechanical. “I need to focus on Aria right now, and then we’ll wait on the
twins.”
“So you’re just going to sit and wait?” I growled, growing more agitated with each passing second. “That’s your fucking
plan?”
“Yes, Alpha Ethan. We can’t address the babies until Aria stabilizes. Now, please let me do my job. Wait outside with
Lucas, and I’ll update you as soon as I can.” The doctor used a practiced, placating tone.
The room fell quiet, and I knew I needed to leave, but I moved to Aria’s bedside first. She was connected to so many
devices. I crouched down so Lucas and I were level with her. I stroked her hair and kissed her forehead. “Don’t leave me.
Stay with us.”
Lucas mimicked my action, tears streaming down his face as he kissed his mother’s forehead. “I love you, Mommy.”
I stood up and looked the doctor directly in the eyes. “Save her. If you have to make a choice, save her.”
The doctor’s expression remained steady, but she nodded. Suddenly, the machines began flashing and beeping wildly.
“She’s crashing!” the doctor shouted. “Begin emergency protocols!”
