Ethan’s POV
“Vital signs are dropping rapidly!” The nurse’s words hit me like a physical blow. I spun around so fast I nearly collided
with her, my heart hammering against my ribs.
“I’m her mate,” I said, my voice barely recognizable even to my own ears. “What’s happening?”
The nurse grabbed my arm, urgency radiating from her every movement. “The patient is unresponsive. We can’t proceed
with the emergency C-section. The doctor wants to speak with you immediately.”
My mother stepped forward, tightening her hold on Lucas. “Go,” she urged, her eyes reflecting my own fear. “We’ll be
right here.”
I followed the nurse through the double doors, my legs moving on autopilot while my mind spiraled into panic. The
surgical suite was a flurry of controlled chaos—monitors beeping erratically, medical staff moving with practiced
efficiency, their faces grim behind surgical masks. And in the center of it all, on the operating table, lay Aria.
My throat constricted at the sight of her. So pale, so still. Tubes and wires connected her to machines that tracked her
failing vitals. The doctors had already prepped her swollen belly for surgery, the antiseptic smell mixing with the metallic
scent of blood that still clung to my clothes.
The lead doctor approached me, pulling her mask down. “Mr. Ethan, we have a situation. Your mate’s condition is
deteriorating rapidly. Her blood pressure is dropping, and her body isn’t responding to our interventions.”
“What does that mean?” I demanded, my voice rough with emotion. “You have to save her—save all three of them.”
The doctor’s expression remained professionally detached, but I detected a hint of sympathy in her eyes. “We’re doing
everything medically possible, but there’s something… unusual happening. Her blood work shows anomalies we can’t
explain, and her body seems to be shutting down in a pattern that doesn’t match normal trauma response.”
My mind raced, connecting dots that these human doctors couldn’t possibly understand. “Is it possible…” I hesitated,
choosing my words carefully. “Is it possible that her wolf is taking control of her body? Like in previous incidents?”
The doctor’s eyebrows rose slightly. “You mean like what happened during her previous hospitalization? When her vitals
stabilized inexplicably?” She nodded slowly. “It’s possible we’re seeing something similar.”
Cassandra. The name flashed through my mind. Aria’s wolf had been shielding her, protecting the twins. Was she losing
that protection now?
“We have one option left,” the doctor continued, drawing me back to the present crisis. “It’s unconventional, but given
the circumstances… Your presence might help. Sometimes, on a subconscious level, patients respond to loved ones when
all medical interventions fail.”
“What do you need me to do?” I asked immediately, ready to tear out my own heart if it would save her.
“Put these on,” she instructed, handing me a set of sterile scrubs. “Once you’re changed, you can approach her. Talk to
her, touch her if you need to. Just try to call her back.”
I changed with frantic speed, scrubbing my hands raw to remove Sarah’s blood from beneath my fingernails. Every
second felt like an eternity, knowing Aria was slipping away while I stood helplessly at a sink.

When I finally approached the operating table, the room fell strangely quiet, as if everyone was holding their breath. I moved to Aria’s side, careful not to disturb any of the equipment keeping her alive. Up close, the reality of her condition
hit me even harder. Her skin had taken on a grayish tinge, her lips pale and slightly blue at the edges.
“Aria,” I whispered, gently brushing my fingertips across her forehead. Her skin felt cool and damp beneath my touch.
“Aria, love, can you hear me?”
No response. Not even a flicker of her eyelids.
I leaned closer, my lips nearly touching her ear. “You need to come back to us, Aria. Lucas is waiting for you. Our
daughters need you.” My voice cracked on the last word, emotion threatening to overwhelm me. “I need you.”
Still nothing. The machines continued their ominous beeping, each tone seeming more urgent than the last. 1/2
“We’re losing her,” someone murmured behind me. The words sent a spike of primal fear through my chest.
“No!” I growled, my control slipping as Felix surged forward. “Aria is stronger than this. She’s a fighter.” I took her hand in
mine, squeezing gently. “Aria, please. You promised we’d do this together, remember? You promised we’d raise our
children together.”
The doctor moved to my side, her expression grave. “If she doesn’t stabilize soon, we’ll have to perform the C-section
regardless. The twins are in distress.”

I nodded numbly, understanding the impossible choice they might have to make—prioritize the babies or continue trying
to save Aria. The thought of losing any of them was unbearable.
I bent down, pressing my forehead against hers, no longer caring about protocol or who was watching. “Aria,” I pleaded,
my voice barely audible. “Come back to me. Come back to us.”
Suddenly, Felix stirred within me, more insistent than I’d ever felt him. A low growl rumbled through my chest, startling
the nearby nurse.
“Mate…” Felix’s voice echoed in my mind, urgent and demanding. “I can sense her.”
“What do you mean? Not now!” I whispered, confused by his sudden interruption.
“Mate…” Felix insisted, pushing closer to the surface. “I smell her…Mine… My mate…”
My head snapped up, hope surging through me like an electric current. The possibility that Aria’s wolf still existed, still
fought, sent adrenaline coursing through my veins like liquid fire. My chest tightened as I struggled to contain both
Felix’s excitement and my own frantic prayer that this wasn’t just wishful thinking.
My voice came out as a ragged whisper, barely contained excitement making my hands tremble against Aria’s skin.
“Cassandra? You can sense Cassandra?”
