Ethan’s POV
Moonlight spilled through the floor-to-ceiling windows of the Shadow Fang headquarters, casting long shadows across my desk. I’d been staring at the same wild wolf attack report for the past hour, the words blurring together as my mind
wandered to more troubling matters. Through our pack bond, David’s voice echoed in my head, warning of an
unexpected visitor.
I didn’t need to look up to know who it was. Leo’s distinctive scent—designer cologne mixed with something else—filled
my office as he leaned against the doorframe, wearing his usual perfectly tailored suit and easy smile.
“Just stopped by after delivering some flowers to Aria,” he said casually, leaning against my doorframe with that
insufferable ease. The image of Aria’s face lighting up at Leo’s gift flashed through my mind unbidden. My wolf, Felix,
snarled with such ferocity that I had to grip the edge of my desk to maintain control. The thought of Leo presenting her
with rare moonflowers, of him being the one to make her smile…
I forced my attention back to the documents, though the words blurred before my eyes. As Shadow Fang’s heir, I had no
right to feel this possessive rage, this burning need to tear apart any male who dared court her. Yet Felix’s jealousy
coursed through my veins like poison, making my fingers itch to shred the papers before me.
“How… thoughtful of you,” I managed, proud of how steady my voice remained despite Felix’s continuing growls. I kept
my expression carefully neutral, years of alpha training the only thing preventing my emotions from showing on my face.
But inside, my wolf was prowling restlessly, demanding we assert our claim over what should be ours.
Just as I was about to respond, David’s voice cut through my mind again. They’d captured a suspicious rogue wolf who
needed immediate questioning. Standing, I let my alpha power fill the room, a subtle reminder of my position.
“I’m afraid you will have to wait,” I said, my voice deliberately cool. “Pack business requires my attention.”
As I passed Leo in the doorway, the flower scent on him caught my attention. The same scent that had permeated Aria’s
office. Felix’s growl reverberated through my chest, and it took every ounce of control to maintain my composure.
Once in the hallway, I clenched my fists until my knuckles turned white, trying to ground myself in physical sensation. The
moonflower scent clung to my nostrils, a constant reminder of Leo’s presence in their lives. The way he moved around
them with such easy familiarity, how naturally Lucas seemed to accept him…
Felix paced through my mind like a caged beast, his agitation making my skin feel too tight. Emma’s dinner invitation
glowed accusingly on my phone screen – another reminder of the obligations I couldn’t seem to focus on. Instead, my
thoughts kept circling back to the training session earlier today. The way Aria had moved with deadly precision despite
her dampened powers, how her voice carried across the yard with natural authority. Even without her wolf, she
commanded respect in a way Emma never had.

My thumb traced the familiar pattern of my alpha ring. The metal felt unusually cold against my skin, like it too was
rejecting the path I was supposed to take. The ring had been passed down through generations of Shadow Fang alphas,
each of whom had put pack duty above personal desires. So why couldn’t I do the same?
The scent of moonflowers still clung to my senses, making Felix growl with possessive fury. Every time I closed my eyes, I
saw Leo’s expensive bouquet sitting on Aria’s desk, marking her office with his presence.
“Sir?” David’s voice, both mental and verbal, cut through my spiraling thoughts. He stood at attention, but I caught the
flicker of concern in his eyes. “The suspect is ready for questioning. And about Emma’s dinner invitation…”
“I’ll handle it later,” I snapped, then forced my voice to level out. “The rogue wolf takes priority.”
The interrogation room felt suffocating, its stark walls closing in as I tried to focus on the task at hand. But my mind kept
wandering to more dangerous territories. Felix’s agitation grew with each passing moment.

Through the reinforced windows, I could see the training yard where Aria had been teaching earlier. Even now, hours
later, her unique scent lingered in the evening air – nothing like Emma’s carefully selected designer perfumes, but
something wild and honest that made Felix desperate to claim. To protect. To possess.
The rogue wolf sat before me, his dirty face marked with dried blood and fear. Normally, I’d be fully focused on the
interrogation, pressing for every detail about the recent attacks. Instead, I found my attention drifting, my mind circling
back to those damned moonflowers Leo had brought. The thought of him sitting in Aria’s apartment right now, probably
making Lucas laugh with some clever story…
My claws emerged unbidden, scoring deep marks in the metal table. The rogue flinched, but I couldn’t bring myself to
care about his pathetic display of submission. What did this filthy creature’s information matter when Leo was probably
brewing tea in Aria’s kitchen, making himself at home in a space that should have been mine?
“Alpha Heir?” David’s voice cut through my thoughts. I realized I’d been glaring at the rogue without asking a single
question for the past five minutes. This wasn’t like me – I’d interrogated countless rogues before, always maintaining
perfect focus.
But now all I could think about was ripping those damn moonflowers to shreds.
