Gideon’s pupils contracted intensely. He couldn’t care about anything else, crazily wanting to rush into the fire scene. Firefighters who arrived held him back firmly.
“Mr. Knox, you can’t go in!” “Get out of the way! Don’t stop me! She’s still inside! Vera is still inside!”
Gideon struggled in fury, but was held back by the firefighters‘ indifferent faces.
Gideon’s bodyguards dragged a panicked man over. “Mr. Knox, we caught a man sneaking around behind the warehouse.” Gideon’s eyes turned
sharp, about to question him.
But Nora suddenly clung to his arm. She cried with a tear–streaked face, her whole body trembling: “Gideon, I’m so scared… I thought I’d never
see you again.”
Nora weakly leaned into Gideon’s embrace.
In the past, Gideon would have hugged her, comforting her with concern. But now, he only perfunctorily said: “You should go back first.” Nora’s expression froze.
But Gideon’s eyes were fixed on the guilty–looking man, his voice chillingly cold: “Who are you? Did you start the fire? Or who ordered you to do it? Speak up!”
The man, terrified, looked at Nora involuntarily.
Nora’s face changed drastically, deliberately showing the grim burn on her leg, collapsing to the ground: “Gideon, my leg hurts, can you take me to the hospital?” But Gideon didn’t even turn his head.
Under Gideon’s cold gaze, the man finally broke down, trembling as he pointed to Nora. “It was her… she told me to start the fire! “She gave me a million dollars to douse the whole building in gasoline and burn it down, she said… said she wanted Ms. Lin to disappear from this world completely!”
Nora’s body instantly froze, her face turning pale. “You’re lying!”
She retorted sharply, but trembled when she met Gideon’s cold gaze. Gideon approached Nora with a grim face. Nora shrank back in panic.
“Gideon, let me explain! “This man is slandering me! How could I possibly…”
Gideon interrupted her: “Why? Haven’t I been good enough to you? “I gave you everything you wanted, why would you harm Vera!”
Nora slumped to the ground in a daze.

Vera’s name!
