“Jasper, Jasper, there are many people at home. Your dad, your dad sent them. Come back, come back.”
Jasper’s voice was cold on the other end.
“Mom, my dad is a legitimate businessman. You don’t need to stage this to drive a wedge between us.”
“He said he’d give you a lesson, but… it was just to scare you.”
“Yes, Cora, how could I let you truly get hurt?”
I was stunned, my last hope thoroughly shattered.
Now I understood that nothing could compare to the allure of money. Yes, how could the son of an ordinary designer compare to the heir of a listed company? All these years, I raised an ungrateful wolf. It’s laughable, utterly laughable.
Hatred grew from the depths of my heart and spread instantly. I was nothing but a rich man’s plaything. With that in mind, I rushed to the kitchen and grabbed a kitchen knife.
But those men mocked me. My actions were ludicrous in their eyes.
The leader approached, snatching the knife from me. In the struggle, an old injury in my right hand flared up, spreading intense pain throughout my body. I felt dizzy.
“Thought you were tough, but turns out… hahaha.”
“If I didn’t dislike old women…”
In a flash, I saw the knife on the ground, quickly got up, and held it to the leader’s neck. Then I screamed for help.
12:03 PM
The old building I lived in had thin walls, and neighbors soon gathered. Seeing the crowd, the men admitted defeat.
“Sis… Big Sis… I was wrong. Please, be the bigger person and let me go. I was just paid to do this.”
With the neighbors‘ help, they fled in panic. I finally breathed a sigh of relief.
“Imogen, how did you… how did you end up like this?”
In the crowd, I saw Imogen, someone I hadn’t seen in years. Her eyes were filled with worry and disappointment.
“After your call, my right eye kept twitching. I couldn’t wait for the day you said you’d come, so I came first.”
At that moment, I couldn’t hold back my emotions any longer. I hugged Imogen and cried bitterly.
“There, there, don’t cry. Look at you, doing this to yourself for a man and a child.”
“You live in a place like this? Let me see your hand. Oh my, a designer’s hand in such a state.”
“Come, leave with me today. This time, you have to listen to me. Cora, we’re at an age where we can’t waste any more time.”
I nodded, gathered my things, and sent Jasper a message.
“Jasper, our mother–son relationship is over. From now on, we go our separate ways.”
After sending it, I turned off my phone and got into Imogen’s car.
After all these years of depending on each other, Jasper felt something was about to happen when he saw my message. He panicked.
“Dad, look at this message from Mom. What does she mean? Could she really have left?”
Griffin, sitting with his legs crossed, glared at him with dissatisfaction.
“Don’t you trust me? I’ve dominated the business world for years and wouldn’t stoop to petty actions against a woman.”
“I know your mom too well. She’ll go to any lengths to achieve her goals. She’s saying this to drive a wedge between us.”
“Jasper, I’ve missed so many years with you and your mom. I long for family reunification.”
Jasper felt a wave of anxiety.
“Stop the car.
“No. Dad, I have to go back and check!”
Griffin stopped him forcefully.
“What do you mean? Don’t you trust your own father?”
“Alright, stop causing trouble. Didn’t you want that new car model? I’ll get it for you now. Be good.”
