My heart was surprisingly calm as I strode forward, pretending not to see him, and pushed my way into the crowd.
Unexpectedly, Jake rushed in, pushing through the crowd while shouting my name. “Ruby, Ruby, it’s me! It’s Jake!”
Everyone around us turned to look, leaving me no choice but to
stop.
After six months apart, Jake looked much more haggard than when I’d last seen him, his cheeks even sunken with weight loss.
“What are you doing here?” I asked.
Having just finished work, I was tired and really didn’t want to deal with him.
He seemed oblivious to my impatience, grabbing my arm firmly, his eyes sparkling with joy.
“I’ve finally found you, Ruby. Do you know how much I’ve missed you?”
As if afraid I might run away, he gripped tightly. I tried to break free but couldn’t, so I just stared at him expressionlessly. “I’ve made myself perfectly clear. Finding me here won’t change

anything.”
Jake’s grip tightened even more.
“No, Ruby, listen to me!”

“I’ve cut ties with Lacie. You didn’t like her, right? I’ll never see her again. Now you can’t be angry anymore, can you? I know you still have feelings for me, don’t you?”
Hearing this, I couldn’t help but sneer. “So you knew I hated Lacie? Then why did you repeatedly indulge her and bring her home? Jake, are you really that stupid?”
In our relationship, I always thought I wasn’t good enough, constantly doubting myself and making excuses for him. That’s why I mistakenly believed he didn’t understand how I felt about
Lacie.
But apparently, he saw everything clearly and enjoyed it all along.
Jake’s face suddenly turned pale, his lips quivering slightly.
“That… that was my fault, Ruby. I’ve changed now, and I’ve thought about a lot of things. I was wrong before. Can you give me another chance?”
I didn’t want to hear any more of his nonsense. I tried to pry his hand off, but his strength was surprisingly great, and I couldn’t

Just as I was struggling, a man stepped in front of me and forcefully removed Jake’s hand from mine.
“Who are you? Why are you harassing Ruby?”
I recognized him as Maddox Cole, an American classmate from the same lab. Since we were both from the US, we got along well.
Seeing this, Jake became angry and threw a punch at Maddox.
“None of your business! Ruby is my wife!”
As the situation was spiraling out of control, I used all my strength to pull Jake away and shouted at him furiously.
“Shut up! I’m calling the police!”
“And who’s your wife? We never even got married!”
Jake’s hand immediately loosened, and he deflated like a balloon, his eyes filling with wounded desperation.
“You’re yelling at me for another man. You never used to be like
this.”
“Ruby, if you’re willing, we can have another wedding. This time, I promise no one will disturb us.”

His shameless words made me laugh in anger. Seeing more and more onlookers gathering, my patience finally ran out.
“Love me? Then tell me, during the six months I’ve been gone, Lacie got pregnant. Are you saying that had nothing to do with you?”
His breath caught, and though his mouth opened, no words
came out.
After a long moment, Jake lowered his head and hesitantly explained.
“That was an accident…”
“Lacie got me drunk. I missed you so much that day, and in my confusion, I mistook her for you. Who knew she would get pregnant soon after.”
“My feelings for her are just friendship. Ruby, you’re the one I love most.”
I sighed, not believing his explanation at all.
I felt surprisingly calm inside, remembering the despair from my previous life when he had imprisoned me. Looking at his pathetic state now, I only felt happy. All of this was the karma he deserved.
