After that day, Jake didn’t show up at the lab entrance again. I thought he had given up.
Although Maddox insisted that his help that day was nothing special, I still treated him to dinner and briefly explained my situation with Jake.
After hearing the story, he was visibly angry and couldn’t help cursing Jake a few times.
Afterward, his gaze toward me carried a hint of affection.

“What exactly is your relationship with that guy?”
I frowned deeply. “How is that any of your business, Jake? Didn’t I tell you to stop bothering me?”
He nodded slowly and chuckled. “Right, it’s none of my business.”
For some reason, I felt something was off about him.
Before I could react, he suddenly pulled something from his pocket and pressed it against my mouth.
I tried to scream, but a pungent smell invaded my nostrils. The next second, I completely lost consciousness.
When I opened my eyes again, I found myself in a strange, dimly
lit room.
I looked around and was about to call for help when I noticed something wrong with my body.
My body was burning hot, even my breath felt scorching. Not only that, but I also felt a tingling sensation all over, and my skin

itched with a desire to be touched.
This was bad–I’d been drugged!
“Ruby, you’re finally awake?”
Jake sat down beside me, his eyes flickering with unusual excitement as his hand caressed my shoulder.
“Finally, I’ve finally waited for this day.”
I trembled all over.
“You drugged me?!”

I tried to raise my hand but found my body too weak to exert any strength. I could only squeeze out a question: “Why… why are you doing this to me?”
Jake smiled, gently stroking my face.
“Because you wouldn’t listen and insisted on leaving me. Do you know how much money I spent to find this drug? But it’s all worth it.”
“I figured it out–you resent what I did when I rescued Lacic and brought her home to ease the drug’s effects. So if I rescue you once too, you’ll forgive me, right?”

be so absurd. But right now, the most important thing was to find a way to save myself. So I forced myself to stay calm.
“Jake, we can sit down and talk this through. Why make things irreparable?”
“No!” he roared, his ashen face filled with obsession.
“I just know I can’t lose you. Ruby, what did I do wrong? Tell me, I’ll change, okay? Don’t leave me!”
“But you–you rejected me and laughed with other men. I can’t stand it!”
As waves of heat washed over me, I used all my strength to bite my tongue hard. The taste of blood and the pain helped clear my head a little.
I tried to reason with him again: “Jake, things haven’t gone too far yet. Do you really want to do this? Let me go, and we can talk properly.”
He covered my mouth, his eyes devoid of any light.
“There’s nothing to talk about, Ruby. Let’s go to hell together.”
With that, he stood up and took off his shirt, followed by his pants…
