Chapter Five
Freya’s POV
The study door slammed open, and Alpha Kade stormed inside, his fury palpable. He pointed a clawed finger at Lila, his Beta, who stood unfazed under his glare.
“Didn’t I warn you to stay away from my pack? How dare you trespass here, especially at this hour!” His voice reverberated, laced with the growl of his wolf barely restrained.
Lila smirked, stepping closer without a hint of fear. “Oh, come now, Alpha. There‘ s no harm in a little midnight visit, is there? Especially when it’s for you.”
Her words were laced with innuendo, her boldness shocking. She reached out and tugged at the loose tie on his robe, her eyes glinting.
“There’s not enough room in the woods at night, and you didn’t seem to enjoy

yourself earlier. So I thought, why not bring the fun indoors?”
Kade froze for a moment, disbelief flickering across his face. He stepped back, his voice cutting through the tension. “Are you insane? This is my pack house! My mate is in the room right across the hall!”
Lila‘ s grin widened, showing off the gleam of her sharp canines. “Oh, I know. She’s fast asleep, though, isn’t she? Lights out and all. Besides, isn’t it a little more… thrilling this way?”
Kade‘ s growl deepened, but before he could stop her, Lila shrugged off her cloak, revealing a form–fitting dress that shimmered like starlight, designed to
allure.
Without warning, she closed the space between them and crashed her lips onto his. For a moment, his body betrayed him, and he responded before snapping back to his senses and shoving her away.

Chapter Five
From across the hallway, I watched the scene unfold through the crack in the door, my heart pounding. Every instinct screamed at me to burst in, to confront
them, but my body betrayed me, paralyzed by the sight of my mate entangled with another.
The bile rose in my throat as I stumbled back, unable to watch any longer. My vision blurred, and I bolted to the bathroom, retching as the image of their embrace played on a loop in my mind.
How could he? The man the Moon Goddess had chosen for me, my fated mate, breaking the sacred bond we shared. And with her, of all people–Lila, his Beta, notorious for her manipulative ways.
I returned to my room, collapsing onto the bed, staring into the void of the ceiling. The bond between us burned, hot and
searing, as though punishing betrayal he had committed.

creak open as Lila left. Kade‘ s voice followed, low and commanding, calling for a driver to escort her.
When he finally returned to the room, the scent of jasmine and something saccharine clung to him. My wolf stirred, enraged, and I had to bite my lip to keep her from surfacing.
Kade moved to the bathroom without a word, and the sound of running water filled the silence. When he emerged, I turned my back to him, feigning sleep.
“You were out late,” I murmured, my voice cold, every word a mask for the storm
within me.
Kade hesitated, his shadow looming over me. “Pack matters,” he said gruffly, the lie as thin as the barrier I had tried to build
between us.
I shifted further away, creating a chasm in the bed that mirrored the one growing in my heart. The war brewing within me was

undeniable. My instincts demanded
retribution for the mate bond he‘ d broken, yet the part of me still tethered to him ached, longing for an explanation I knew would never come.
As he finally settled into bed, his back to mine, I whispered into the darkness, unheard by anyone but myself, “You think you‘ re hiding this from me, but I know everything.”
I vowed that night, beneath the waning moonlight, that I would uncover the truth behind his betrayal–and make both of them regret underestimating me.
