Ms. Susan’s tense expression finally softened. “Ms. Windy, you-”

“Just call me Windy,” Windy cut her off before she could finish. She still preferred people to call her by her first name. Though she didn’t like her last name, maybe when she finally took her revenge, she would change it completely.
Ms. Susan smiled faintly, not minding her attitude. She repeated the name slowly, finding it both unfamiliar and memorable. Studying the girl sitting across from her, she was certain now–Windy had never come to Past and Present before. She had a good eye for people. With a face this beautiful, there was no way she would forget it if she had seen it before.
Still, she didn’t understand why Windy was helping her. Even if Windy asked for a promise in return, considering the power of the people involved, it was hard to believe anyone would dare get involved. The more she thought about it, the deeper hér confusion grew.
“You told me about my daughter just for a promise?” she asked cautiously.
“Relax. I won’t ask you to commit murder or arson,” Windy said calmly. There was no way she could explain she was, someone reborn.
Ms. Susan didn’t worry too much. How big of a promise could a little girl demand anyway? “You’re from Ocean City’s Sue family?” she asked with some uncertainty.
As far as she knew, the Sue family had only one daughter: Elsa. She had never heard of a Windy. But in Ocean City, the surname Sue was rare. The only prominent Sue family she knew of was Sue Corp.
Windy understood she meant David and gave a small nod. “They just found me and brought me back.”
That light comment shocked Ms. Susan deeply. The Sue family had found their long–lost daughter? That was big news. Why hadn’t there been even a whisper of it? Normally, a family like the Sue family would host a grand banquet, inviting all the influential figures, proudly introducing their daughter. Maybe they didn’t want to attract attention yet, to give her time to adjust.
Ms. Susan reasoned with herself this way. “You’re David’s daughter. I believe you,” she said firmly.
Although she had little interaction with the Sue family, their reputation had always been circulated among her circle. Plus, the Sue family’s daughter was engaged to the Hanson family–another name she paid extra attention to because of Jack.
With the real daughter back, Ms. Susan couldn’t help wondering if the engagement might change. Of course, that was their private matter. She wasn’t foolish enough to ask. She only cared about one thing: her daughter’s safety. Nothing else mattered.
“My daughter… is she okay?” Ms. Susan asked, bringing the topic back.
“She’s not in immediate danger,” Windy replied, based on what Yuna had told her. Right now, Yuna’s life wasn’t threatened. But she was beaten and tortured every day, locked in a basement, her body covered in bruises and scars. The only thing keeping her alive was the belief that her mother would come rescue her.
But in the past life, Yuna never saw that day. Instead, she heard the news that her mother had died violently in the street.
This life, things were moving differently. She had come to Jane for two reasons: first, to change Yuna’s fate, to prevent her from being sold to Mambia again. Second, because right now, Jane was the only one she could trust–someone who would truly value life and love a child.
As for David and Quinn, everything with them was built on self–interest. Although they were her biological parents, they had never treated her as their daughter. Elsa was their pride. She, who had lived in Cloud Village for so many years, was just a stain they wished they could erase.
If there was a next life, she would never come back to the human world. Two lifetimes were more than enough. She had tasted all the bitterness life could offer, seen all its ugliness. Her conclusion: life wasn’t worth it.
Ms. Susan sniffed quietly, Windy’s words painting too vivid a picture. Maybe Yuna’s situation wasn’t good. But as long as she was alive, there was hope.

“Alright, I’ll wait. Windy, please don’t lie to me. If you lie to me, I swear I’ll kill you,” Jane said, her voice fierce.
Windy smiled faintly. “You won’t get the chance.”
The two women exchanged a smile, as if they were old friends reunited after years apart.

After leaving Past and Present, Windy strolled along the sidewalk. People bustled around her. Checking the time, she saw it was already late. There would be plenty of chances to shop later. She took out her phone and called Victor.
By the time she returned home, it was already ten o’clock. David and Quinn had long since gone to bed. Hearing movement, Linda got up and caught a glimpse of a cold figure heading upstairs. The light in the living room had been left on by Linda, just in case.
Since she didn’t have Windy’s number, Linda had contacted Victor instead. Victor explained that Windy had gone into the mall alone and didn’t allow him to follow. He had waited in the car until she called him to pick her up after she was done.
Worried that Windy, being new to the house, might get lost or feel uneasy, Linda had stayed awake. Seeing her return safely, she finally relaxed.
Windy had just opened the door to her room when Elsa, hearing the noise, immediately rushed out. Wearing slippers, she padded over to Windy’s door. Before Windy could react, Elsa squeezed through the door crack and barged in.
Windy’s expression darkened instantly, her voice cold. “Didn’t anyone teach you manners? Get out.”
Elsa was stunned.
Windy dared to speak to her like that?
In the Sue family, she could enter anyone’s room without asking. No one ever showed her a bad face.
Hatred churned inside her, but she kept her usual innocent, sweet appearance, pretending not to hear. “Windy, you went shopping this afternoon, right? What did you buy? Show me.”
She looked like a naive, curious child. But Windy knew better. Elsa wasn’t curious about her purchases. She was asserting her dominance. In this family, everyone revolved around Elsa. She was the cherished princess, and everyone else was expected to yield.
Windy leaned lazily against the doorframe, giving her a half–smile that wasn’t a smile. “You don’t understand human language, do you? I gave you a chance. You didn’t listen. Don’t blame me now.”
Before Elsa could figure out what she meant, Windy suddenly grabbed her hard and-
“Ouch! Sorry, Elsa, I stepped on your foot!” Windy said mockingly.
The next moment, Elsa felt herself being yanked and flung out the door. She landed hard, butt–first.
“My foot!” Elsa cried, tears springing to her eyes from the sharp pain. It felt like her foot had been crushed by a car.
“Get lost.”
Windy slammed the door shut with a loud bang.
