Dinner was a noisy raucous affair, and it was only because Sidonia sat at her side squeezing her hand every few minutes,
Zorah felt she’d gotten through it.
“Sidonia, are you sure this is what you want? You’re here because of me.” She questioned her friend when Icaro and
Vodingo were pulled aside to discuss an issue which arose with Dagoberto.
“I’m here because of me,” Sidonia said solemnly. “I love you. I have said for many years you are my only family. My
parents all this week were talking about how while they didn’t like the idea of who you were married to, they really liked
the idea of the arranged marriage. They were talking about looking into it for me. I know the minute you were gone, they were going to push me into marrying Dr. Floss’s brother. Seriously Vodingo could have been a one-eyed pirate with a
peg leg, and I would have jumped at the opportunity to follow you away from them. Oh, and don’t get me started on
Dad accepting cash. Five hundred thousand.”
“Good grief. He gave him five hundred thousand?”
“Yes. My mother called when I was in the car and started going off by calling me a sinning harlot. Vodingo grabbed the
phone from me and told her she was no longer allowed to call me without supervision.” Sidonia giggled, “he promised
he’d protect me forever. I gave him a very lovely little reward for his endeavors.”
“Sidonia!” she was wide-eyed as Sidonia giggled at her.
“He’s my husband now. On the ride here from the helicopter I asked him about whether he was part of the group where we saw videos of Icaro, and he admitted he was. He promised me it would never happen again and then he kissed me,”
she gave a loud sigh, “he’s such a good kisser and then did you see the size of his hands? He can hold my entire butt
cheek in the palm of his hand. Well, his fingers are long and thick and in the car.”
Zorah clapped a hand over Sidonia’s mouth. “Stop. Things which happen in between a husband and wife do not need to
be discussed.”
Sidonia pulled Zorah’s hand away from her mouth, “if I can’t tell you, who can I talk to? If his finger caused me such
discomfort, what is his penis going to do?”
“It hurt?” she turned to look at Vodingo and Icaro across the room. “Huh. Icaro must have smaller hands than Vodingo.” Her words spilled from her mouth and then she looked at Sidonia with horror as she realized what she said. Her best
friend cackled with glee, drawing gazes from around the room. “Do not repeat what I just said.”
“It’s too funny,” Sidonia was giggling nonstop now. “I wonder if Vodingo is bigger everywhere?”
Zorah slapped at her friend, “stop that!”
Sidonia stopped and then made wide eyes, “wait. Did Icaro put his fingers,” she wiggled them at Zorah, “you know.”
Zorah huffed, “I told him I was not going to our honeymoon suite completely innocent. It was unfair of him to expect it of me.”
“You made him put his fingers in you?”
She twisted her lips, “I didn’t put a gun to his head, Sidonia. I told him he either did what I wanted him to do, or I’d do it
myself.”
“And he, did it?”
“Yes.”
“With his hands.”
She shrugged looking away, knowing she was redder than a tomato.
“More than his hands?” Sidonia was bouncing in her seat excitedly.
“His mouth.” She bit her bottom lip when Sidonia squeezed her forearm with her nails digging into her skin. “Ouch.
“You let him put his mouth there.”
“I told him to.” She grinned as she recalled how powerful she felt. “He told me he’d never done such a thing with
another woman, and I wanted something he was a virgin at. I am not going to the marital suite as innocent as a waif
when he’s been a scoundrel.” She lifted her chin defiantly.
“Man.” Sidonia turned here nose up, “I thought I was being naughty when I let him touch me. You went crazy in the car.”
“Crazy or not. I’ve spent my entire life being good and for what? To get a husband who has slept with so many women
he can’t remember who he did on what day? I will not be anyone’s doormat ever again. I lived to survive for so long. I
did what everyone else wanted of me. Getting away from Uncle Ippocrate and my mother is giving me an opportunity to
be a new woman, a new person and I’m taking advantage of it. I will not let anyone walk over me ever again. If for no
other reason than my new last name is Lucchesi, I will not be abused by anyone ever again.”
“You sound so fierce,” Sidonia made wide eyes. “I’m really proud of you.”
“Thanks. I keep thinking of how my mother was going to punish me this morning in the bridal room at the church. How
dare she? I was not the one who married me off. They did. She, her parents, her brother, they were the ones who did it
and I was the one who suffered all along. From now on, Zorah Lucchesi isn’t suffering for anyone. I’ll forge my own path
and if it means a bullet in my head because I disobeyed my husband, or my new in-laws hate me because I don’t do
what they think is right, so be it. I’m not going to go out and be a horrible human being, Sidonia but I’m done living my
life to satisfy someone else.”
Sidonia’s smile fell away as a single tear rolled down Zorah’s cheek. “You’re really miserable, aren’t you?”
Zorah looked away, “you’re safe now. Nobody will hurt you because you have him,” she shot a look at Vodingo. “He can
protect you far better than I ever could.”
“You married Icaro because it kept me alive,” Sidonia was remembering, and she soberly whispered.
“And now the only person I love on the planet more than anyone else is safe and secure. Whatever else happens in my
life is on my terms. If I want to force the man on his knees in the back of a moving car I will. I’m taking what I want when I
want it and I’m not giving in when I don’t want to do something. To heck with anyone who thinks I owe them anything.”
Icaro caught her eye across the room, and she held his gaze unwaveringly, a rebuke in her eyes as she considered how
heavy handed, he’d been over the last week. If he thought he’d married a woman who was going to be complacent, he
was dead wrong.
Starting tonight with their wedding night. Good obedient Zorah was gone. It was time for a revolution.
