Ruthless Mafia 31

Icaro stared at his wife and wondered how the sex kitten he’d left in the bubble bath became the frigid and tear-stained woman pointing at the door.
He closed his eyes and counted to ten mentally before exhaling loudly through his nose and then moving to squat in
front of the angry woman. He grabbed her hands.
“I am sorry.” He almost laughed at the surprise on her face at his words. “What I should have done was removed you
from the room, ensured you were safe and then dealt with the situation without you in the vicinity. My father was correct.
I did things out of order. It will not happen again.”
“Until the next lover pops up.”
“She was never my lover. Not ever. I swear.”
“But there are so many.”
“Yes.” He couldn’t deny it, “but I did not lie to you tonight. She was not one of mine. Not ever.”
“She was pretty,” Zorah looked away, a flush stealing her cheeks.
“She was nothing compared to my wife,” Icaro squeezed her fingers.
“Liar.”
“I am not lying!” he sat on his heels and looked up at her. “My wife is the most beautiful woman I’ve ever seen. Beautiful
eyes the color of cinnamon. Lips I constantly want to kiss. A body which was made to fit in my hands. Hair soft and silky. Her heart though, is sweet and kind.”
“I’m not feeling sweet and kind.”
“You are angry and hurt,” he kissed her knuckles. “I am sorry our night was ruined. Let me make it up to you.”
“How. How can you make this up to me? Icaro, you shot a woman! This might be normal and commonplace for you, but
it is not for me. How am I supposed to move on? I watched a woman bleeding out on the floor and in a room full of men,
not one person moved to help her. I was so frightened and all you did was threaten her more. You’re an animal.”
“A Beast in fact.” His joke fell flat, “You’re being very judgemental,” he said and then wished he could take the words
back as soon as they spilled from his lips.
“God will do his own judging however tonight watching the woman laying there dying, I knew she and I could be in
reversed roles. It is what was intended for me, correct? You would have killed me, my mother, my uncle if I hadn’t gone
along with the wedding this morning?”
“There was a penalty to not fulfilling the contract, yes.”
“You would have killed the three of us without a second thought.”
“Not you.” He denied with every fibre in his being. “I would never have killed you.”
“But if I refused to marry you this morning, it was the penalty.”
“It was their penalty. It was never yours.”
“What?”
“Your grandparents, mother and uncle all signed a blood oath. You were not part of it.”
“No. My uncle said I would be put to death as well. I said it to you this week when you crashed my date, and you didn’t
deny it. I said I would rather die than give up my life and you got angry about it!”
“You were never part of the penalty if you declined.” He was feeling out of control, and it was not a feeling he enjoyed.
“I could have walked away without being harmed?” She was gasping for breath.
“Zorah,” his heart ached as he considered she truly did not want him. “You are meant for me.”
“What if you are not meant for me?” she retorted angrily. “You murder people in cold blood, in front of me no less. I
didn’t even need to marry you,” she whispered, “You tricked me!”
“I did not.”
“You would have killed Sidonia if I didn’t agree.”
“No.”
“You said you would!”
“I lied. I knew you loved her and wouldn’t have hurt her.”
“Then you did trick me! The problem is, I still believe you might have killed her. After what I saw upstairs, I’m frightened
of you!”
“Fine, I tricked you! I lied to you. I did what I needed to do to make sure you willingly showed up to the church this morning so I could marry you and make you mine. I have,” he bit off his words and sighed, “been waiting so long for you.
The agreement with your uncle and mother was at your twenty-first birthday you would be turned to our family. There were some issues which arose which kept me from coming to bring you home and the minute those issues were cleared
up, I came. Sweetheart, after waiting all this time, I couldn’t wait much longer.”
“Why not? It’s not like you weren’t still having sex or with other women. I mean you were probably having sex all week
long.”
“No. The minute you and I met on Tuesday, and you told me you wanted me not to indulge until today I abstained.”
“Ooh. An entire four days. Congratulations on your big sacrifice.”
“I don’t understand why you’re so angry with me. Fine. I shot the woman upstairs before asking but my first thought she
was an assassin. I didn’t even notice she was naked until the second breath. I apologize for shooting her in front of you
but it’s not like I was fucking her.”
“But it could have been!” she yelled at him. “It could have been. As I came out of the bathroom wearing this,” she
plucked the pretty nightdress, “and feeling special there was this naked woman with far more experience than me, bolder
and prettier and I knew.”
“You knew what?” he stared at her heartbroken face.
“There’s always going to be someone else telling me they were with you first.”
He was surprised by her words and the meaning behind them. Was this why she was upset?
“You might never sleep with the same women twice and you never went second, for the rest of my life, I will always be
the one going last and it doesn’t feel special. Sidonia has the luxury of her Vodingo seeing her and immediately
forsaking all others. I have to live with the notion despite the fact you knew I was your one for years, women will likely
pop out of the woodwork like the one upstairs.”
“But she wasn’t –”
“You’re missing the point,” she frowned. “It doesn’t matter if she was or wasn’t your lover. How many more women are
going to humiliate me with the knowledge I wasn’t worth waiting for? How many special occasions will I endure having
to face one of your lovers? Will one of them pop up at our firstborn’s baptism or at a birthday party? How many times
will I need to endure you shooting a woman to death because she disrespects me because you disrespected me first?”
“Zorah,” her words cut him to the quick.
“Icaro, I need to be alone. Please leave? Please. I’m begging you.”
