Chapter 1
Balancing a tray in one hand and Alpha Lawrence’s favorite coffee in the other, I stood at the study door.
My heart pounded so loudly I swore he’d hear it through the oak panel.
Inside, Alpha Lawrence–my mate, my tormentor, and the bane of my existence- sat over his desk and busy work, seemingly unaware of my presence.
After I set the coffee down in front of him,
not daring to linger I quickly stood to leave.
“Stop, Luna Emma”
His voice was like a whip crack, freezing me mid–step.

“Come here.“He relished the ease with which he commanded me, as though it were his personal pleasure.
Suppressing a fear, I obeyed. Not because I wanted to but because I had no other choice.
“Stretch out your hand.” The next moment, he crushed the cigarette butt into my palm.
The searing pain made me bite down hard on my lip, stifling the cry that threatened to
escape.
Alpha Lawrence had warned me before–any sound would only make it worse.
The sizzling of the cigarette gradually faded, likely because he’d lost interest. He finally released my hand.

“This Saturday, the Shadow Pack is hosting a wolf gathering to celebrate our… anniversary.” The word “our” dripped with pure sarcasm.
Yes. If it weren’t for the fact that he’d misidentified me as his so–called “savior“.
Diana Newton–the beautiful, strong daughter of Ambersy Pack’s alpha–would be the one who celebrating the anniversary with Alpha Lawrence..
“Okay, I understand.”
I withdrew my bloodied hand and stepped out the door.
Alpha Lawrence’s torment had never ceased for a single moment.
Three years ago, on the day of our wedding,

Diana, representing the Ambersy Pack, made her grand entrance at the ceremony.
The moment her eyes landed on Alpha Lawrence, she pointed at me with a triumphant sneer,
“how dare you are, a wolfless. You stole my mate!”
Her accusation hit like a thunderclap. I froze, my breath caught in my throat. What was she talking about?
But Alpha Lawrence’s reaction shattered me. He believed her.
Diana wasted no time, eagerly showing him the crescent–shaped birthmark on her chest.
“Alpha Lawrence, I’m the one you’ve been looking for,‘ she declared, her voice dripping

with certainty.
Life isn’t a fairy tale. It never was.
Diana was the daughter of the Ambersy Pack’s Alpha, a woman with every advantage in life. She claimed to be the savior from his past, his destined mate.
And me? I was nothing but a lowly wolfless orphan who had somehow dared to dream of being Luna.
The whispers had been relentless since the announcement of our union.
“How could a wolfless possibly be the mate of a pack leader?”
They said I didn’t deserve him, and that day, it seemed they were right.

Alpha Lawrence left with her, his hand wrapped around hers as if I had never existed.
I stood alone at the altar, wearing a wedding dress that now felt like a cruel joke.
The ceremony continued, but it was a mockery–a Luna marrying into an empty promise, reciting vows to a missing groom.
That night, the moonlight outside the window was blinding.
A knock on the door broke the silence, and my still heart was suddenly yanked to life, the rush of fear pounding through my chest. Was he back?
I opened the door, and the smile I had carefully arranged froze on my face.

it was Alpha Lawrence’s beta, Andrew. He placed a set of clothes on the table, then pulled a delicate gift box from his pocket and placed it in my hand.
“It will get better, Luna Emma.” These were the first words he’d ever spoken to me.
After changing, I carefully folded up my wedding dress–it was, after all, my first marriage.
1 opened the box. Inside were a pair of rings, the ones that should have been exchanged between us, a gesture we were meant to share.
I slipped the women’s ring onto my finger, as though doing so would give me some semblance of strength.

On the third day of our marriage, Alpha Lawrence stormed back into the house.
He found me in the kitchen, and without a word, he grabbed my arm and dragged me to the bedroom. His strength, amplified by his wolf, left no room for resistance.
He shoved me to the floor. “How dare you pretend to be my saviour? Emma Corrin,” he snarled, his voice low and dangerous, “don’t even think about getting any affection from me.”
1 scrambled to my feet, my pride refusing to let me cower completely. “You can’t treat me like this. I’m your Luna.”
The laugh that escaped him was cold and humorless. “Luna?” He leaned closer, his silver eyes blazing. “You’re a wolfless

pretending to wear a crown. Don’t flatter yourself!”
Suddenly, his gaze dropped to my hand. He snatched it up and yanked off the wedding ring.
“This ring was meant for Diana,” he hissed. “You don’t deserve to wear it.”
The finality in his words hit harder than any physical blow.
In that moment, I realized something. Alpha Lawrence was not my salvation, not my destined mate. He was my curse, my demon in wolf’s clothing.
