Chapter 9
“Ah!”
I fell into the pit, my body slamming painfully against the ground.
A sharp pain shot through my abdomen, and I reached down instinctively. My hands came away covered in blood, a horrifying sight.
“My puppy… my puppy…”
Ignoring the pain, I scrambled to my feet and tried to climb up.
The slick, muddy walls of the pit made it impossible to gain any traction. Despite only being about two or three meters deep, I couldn’t reach the surface.

My clothes were already soaked in blood, and my palms were raw from the constant scraping against the rough walls.
At this moment, I despised myself for not being able to shift into my wolf form. I couldn’t even save my own puppy.
“Help! Please, save my baby! Save him!”
I cried out in desperation, hoping someone would come to my aid. I’d pay any price to
escape.
The howling grew louder, each one closer than the last.
In my panic, I howled back, and moments later, I was pulled from the pit by Beta Andrew, now fully transformed into his wolf form.

He sprinted toward the hospital, and I leaned closer to his ear, my voice hoarse as I whispered:
“Save my puppy.”
When the pack doctors wheeled me into the operating room, I felt the puppy’s heartbeat fading, as if it were slipping away from me.
“I’m sorry… we couldn’t save the puppy, were the first words I heard when I woke up.
A searing pain spread through my entire body, and tears flowed down my face.
I felt as though I had lost all strength, my body swaying as if it might collapse at any moment.
I slowly closed my eyes, accepting my fate, and quietly said,

“Go ahead, tell Alpha Lawrence he can expel me from the Shadow Pack now.”
Beta Andrew sighed softly, gave a few instructions to the nurses, then stood up to leave.
Not long after he left, Diana entered my room, her high heels clicking with each step. Dressed in glittering jewelry, she looked more like the Luna than I.
I didn’t want to see that smug look on her face, so I told the nurse I needed rest.
But she persisted, walking up to me with a wide grin.
“I’ve got some good news for you today. Look.” She held out an invitation in front of
- me.

“This is my wedding invitation with Alpha Lawrence. You might not come, but you’ll never have the chance to see him again.”
I didn’t reply. I had long since lost any
feelings for Alpha Lawren and didn’t care
to hear anything about him.
Seeing my lack of response, Diana’s smile faltered for a moment, then she changed her expression and continued:
“I’m going to tell you a secret. Actually, In fact, I wasn’t even Alpha Lawrence’s saviour. Surprising, isn’t it? Don’t you remember the injured puppy 10 years ago?”
Injured puppy?
How could she know about that?

Ten years ago.
I was living in an orphanage. Being wolfless meant I was always the last to eat, never having enough to satisfy my hunger. To survive, I often ventured deep into the forest, foraging for berries, mushrooms, and whatever else I could find.
It was during one of those desperate searches that I found him–an injured, helpless little puppy.
I brought him back to the orphanage.
When I discovered he had been poisoned by wolfsbane, I knew I couldn’t afford to take him to the Pack hospital.
But I couldn’t bear to watch him die.
Determined to save him, I risked everything,

venturing near the Rogues‘ den to steal the herbs needed for his cure.
Later, he became a part of the orphanage
too.
He would fight the stronger kids there just to protect me, never letting anyone bully me.
But one day, his family finally found him.
As he left, we made a promise–when we grew up, he would marry me.
But after that day, he never came back.
