She seemed to have heard something absurd.

I sprang up and seized her by the neck, slamming her against the wall, relentlessly slapping her.
She didn’t expect me to act so fiercely, and she cried out in pain.
About a minute later,
Ethan burst through the door, holding a strawberry cake.
He froze for a moment, then rushed over to pry my hands off her and throw me to the side. My stomach collided hard with the edge of the table, and I crashed heavily to the floor.

Selima cried pitifully, tugging at Ethan’s sleeve, further fueling his protective instinct.
He crouched down and squeezed my shoulder, completely disregarding the fact that I was still pregnant.
“I told you to apologize to her!”
I felt as though my bones were being crushed.
