Chapter 6
As expected, Ethan’s face turned dark when he heard my words.
“I can’t do that. Selima has always been sensitive, and doing that would be like sentencing her to death.”
“She may be fragile, but that doesn’t mean you can keep bullying her over and over again.”
I? Bullying her?
It seemed Ethan still didn’t understand her.
I scoffed and slammed the divorce papers in his face.
“Then stop wasting my time. Divorce.”
Seeing my firm stance, Ethan’s mind quickly turned. He had no choice but to try another tactic.
“Okay, I’ll agree to the divorce. But last night, my mom called after hearing about your miscarriage. She was so upset that her blood pressure spiked, and now she’s in the hospital.”
“This weekend, will you come with me to my
hometown? Help me explain things to her,
play along with this last bit of drama, and then I’ll sign the papers. Is that okay?”
Ethan knew how much I longed for family.
Whenever it was his parents asking, I never could bring myself to refuse.
From rushing us into marriage to pressuring
us for children, I’d complied with every demand.
So this time, Ethan was certain his parents would be the ones to convince me.
But he greatly underestimated my resolve.
And overestimated their place in my heart.
I glanced at the date, and a wicked, vengeful impulse surged within me.
I agreed.
Saturday morning.
Ethan left early for a meeting at the company.
He asked me to go to the mall and buy some supplements to take back to his hometown.
and then he’d pick me up at noon.
I replied, “Okay.”
I took a bite of cake in the waiting lounge.
The flight still had an hour before takeoff.
Bored, I opened the voice recording app on my phone.
“You’re nothing more than a tool to carry on his family line. Once the baby is born, he’ll throw you out.”
“Ethan said he didn’t want you to have a cat during pregnancy, but every time he brought it up, you’d argue with him. So, he asked me to bring the treats, sneak into your house while you were out shopping, and poison it

Selima’s venomous voice played from my phone.
I saved the recording into an email and entered Ethan’s address.
Selima always portrayed herself as the fragile, innocent victim in front of Ethan.
I wondered what his reaction would be when he heard this.
“Rita, over here!”
As soon as I landed in France, I spotted Audrey, an old work partner, waving a colorful sign among the crowd.
Honestly, I was pleasantly surprised

Chapter Q
She was always so busy with work.
I had already felt sorry asking her to help me find a place to stay.
I hadn’t expected her to take the time to come pick me up.
As I got closer, I noticed a man standing next to her, wearing a black mask.
“Brother, this is Rita, the ‘rising star‘ of the design world I’ve told you about.”
Hearing her introduction, my face flushed with embarrassment.
