Chapter 3
“So what? Our family has wealth. Mom can just buy my way into any school she chooses!” Milo blurted out dismissively.
Maxwell cast me a quick look, noting my lack of reaction before continuing, “Your mom might adore you, but she can’t spoil you endlessly! Managing the company single–handedly is no small feat for her. You need to cultivate some drive, or how else will you assist her or prove that you’re capable enough to take over one day?”
“Your father’s right, Milo,” Amelia added earnestly. “Even though Seraphina is your mom and will always look after you, it’s essential you develop your own skills. Without that, how will you earn the respect of the seasoned executives when you

eventually lead the company?”
As the two of them echoed each other’s sentiments, I offered a faint smile and responded calmly, “It’s alright. I’ve already mapped everything out for Milo. I’ll send him abroad for further studies. Once he’s back, he’ll naturally assume leadership of the company. After all, everything I own is meant for Milo.”
At this, the three of them smiled contentedly.
I smiled too–but my reasons were different. They saw me as naive, but I found their assumptions amusingly foolish.
While making arrangements for his studies abroad, I brought my son to the company daily, tutoring him on the intricacies of the business thoroughly and without reserve,

On the day of his departure, Maxwell held his hand tightly at the airport, his face a tapestry of reluctance. Amelia made a special
appearance, armed with a heap of items for my son, fretful about his life in a foreign land.
Their endless reminders painted a touching scene–a true portrayal of parents‘ worries when their child ventures far away.
As my son boarded the plane, they watched it rise into the sky, tears in their eyes until it was out of sight. Only then did they leave, reluctant, tears still shimmering.
Following his departure, Amelia visited us less, but Maxwell went out more frequently. Upon returning, he appeared utterly drained each time.
When I inquired, he claimed to be out with friends or had joined a gym to maintain his

fitness. On days when excuses ran dry, he’d feign melancholy, sighing dramatically, “I raised Milo myself. He’s never been away from me for so long. I can’t help but miss him. If I don’t find distractions, I’ll fall apart.”
Ignoring the lingering scent of Amelia’s signature perfume on him, I smiled and reassured him, “Milo will be back soon. Then we can all be together again.”
Maxwell’s lips curled into a faint smile, one laden with hidden meaning. “Yes, soon, our family of three will be reunited.”
Four years later, my son returned from his studies abroad.
Much like old times, Amelia arrived early at my house, joining Maxwell and me for the trip to the airport.

The moment they saw my son, neither could contain themselves, rushing forward to embrace him tightly as if no one else mattered.
After their emotional reunion, my son approached me directly, “Mom, I’m back. When will you hand over the company to me?”
Seeing his enthusiasm, I smiled serenely and replied, “Let’s go. I’ve already arranged a press conference. I’ll officially transfer everything to you in front of everyone.”
The press conference was a full house. Journalists, influential figures, and business elites had gathered to witness the historic transition of leadership at Nova Nexus Group.
Under the crowd’s watchful eyes, I

proclaimed, “My son, Milo, will assume the role of president of the Nova Nexus Group.”
