The days spent in D City were comfortable and pleasant. The air was fresh, and the climate was perfect.
I quickly adapted to life here and even started expanding the scope of my volunteer work. In the evenings, I organized games for the travelers in the hostel. The effect was quite positive, and more and more people participated in the activities. Reviews on a certain app also increased, with many five–star ratings. There was a growing tendency for this hostel to become the best in D City.
Before I knew it, the fifteen–day holiday had come to an end. Nicola personally cooked a lavish dinner for me.

“Wow, this looks amazing,” I said. After chatting and working together over the past few days, we became quite familiar with each other and developed a strong rapport. In some ways, it felt even more in sync than I was with Lucas.
“You know, since the holiday is ending, I’m sending you off,” Nicola said, shaking the bottle of wine in his hand and gesturing with his eyes.
I nodded, and when I did, Nicola poured me a glass.
“You might be disappointed then,” I said, washing my hands and placing the last dish on the table.
“Hmm?” Nicola tilted his head, confused.
“I quit my job,” I said, smiling.

“So, Boss Nicola, are you interested in hiring a full–time employee? We can grow this hostel and make it even better,” I added.
Nicola went from confusion to shock, and then to joy. In just a few seconds, his face went through

“If you really have this plan, I’d be more than happy,” he continued. “And I’ll make you a shareholder, so you’ll get dividends. What do you think?”
I smiled and raised my glass. “Deal.”
Nicola clinked his glass with mine. “Welcome aboard, Boss Amelia.”
“Let’s both prosper, Boss Nicola.”
My decision to become a shareholder in this hostel wasn’t a hasty one. After evaluating the surrounding area, competitors, and other

factors, I realized that Nicola was a genius.
I didn’t know what his original profession was, but based on the choice of location for the hostel, he was clearly brilliant. If it wasn’t for his semi–hands–off approach before, not only would they not have made money, but they would have been losing.
I carefully considered whether I should go back to my old job, but I was honestly fed up with the grind. Now, I was free and relaxed, why not try doing something I truly wanted to do?
After agreeing with Nicola, I got involved in the hostel’s renovations. The hardware didn’t need much change, and it wasn’t the right time to make big modifications, but I made drastic adjustments to the software side.
What set Nicola apart from my former boss

was that he fully trusted and respected me. This made the work feel natural, and I thrived.
At the same time, I also worked on adjusting the chaotic booking system and improved the communication with various apps, solving issues such as duplicate bookings and problems where new guests couldn’t check in because previous guests extended their stays.
The hostel began to show clear signs of growth.
Six months passed, and the amount of money we made in a month was equal to the profit Nicola had made in the entire previous
year.
In the seventh month of our partnership, Nicola’s holiday ended. It was then that I

learned he was actually the owner of one of our competitor companies. He and his friend had agreed to take turns running the company every six months–now it was his turn to manage the company while his friend was traveling.
Such a hasty and outrageous arrangement was something only Nicola could pull off.

During the six months Nicola spent running his company, he couldn’t pay much attention to the hostel. However, there was no
problem since I was handling it myself, and our performance remained stable or even improved.
Whenever he wasn’t too busy, he would fly back to help out. Sometimes, I could sense his obvious fatigue when he arrived at the hostel, and I would encourage him not to go through the trouble, telling him I could

manage. But he would seriously say, “I just miss you, I wanted to see you.”
At those times, I would often make a hasty exit.
I knew he was being sincere. Compared to his company, this hostel was insignificant. The reason he had been so hands–off before was partly because he could afford to lose the money. Now, his increased attention showed that he was no longer just focused on the hostel–there was clearly more to it than that.
But I couldn’t give him an answer.
Since that incident, I hadn’t gone back home and hadn’t kept up with Lucas’s situation. In my current state, I didn’t dare to jump into a new relationship hastily.
