Chapter Fourteen: Aurielle DuVall
Two days went by faster than I expected. Matthias was scarce around the house, which bothered me. No, scarce is the wrong word. He’s been absent–gone before I woke up and back home while I was asleep. But today’s the third day, and I need to see if he’s signed those papers.
I have a doctor’s appointment and some exercise to do. Weirdly, though, I’ve been in contact with Alpha Cassiel. He texted me the
night after I got the papers asking if I got home safely, which was nice.
We texted back and forth. Mostly at night because he’s busy during the day. How do I know that? He told me. Explained that
running a pack and being a council member means he sleeps less and travels a lot. He seems like a really open and honest man.
Our conversations are short, but each one has been very nice.
That’s beside the point. I walked through the hall, searching for Matthias. I knocked on his study room as one of the maids came
- by. She gently grabbed my arm.
“He’s out. At work, I think.”
I thanked us, and she nodded, stalking off. I went into the study. I know he’s not around, but I want to see it myself. And there
they were. With my pen still lying on it. it
Why is Matthias like this? He didn’t even touch it. I snatched the paper and pen. Done with this. I gave him two days and he didn’t
even bother to…. he didn’t even try to… that man does not care about me.
How have I loved him for three years? For longer than that?
I marched out of the study, making my way to my bedroom to grab a bag with the items I needed. Then shoved the divorce papers.
into my bag. I took one of the keys to Matthias’s many cars. He’s specifically told me not to touch them but I don’t want to pay for a taxi since I’ll need to go from his office to the hospital.
Because I’m not a mean person, I took the cheapest car. One of the things I loved about him was his love for cars. Classic and
modern. Even when he was ignoring me, if I mentioned something about a car he would have a long discussion with me about it.
I forced that memory away.
The drive to Matthias’s office was long. Just forty minutes but my heart was pounding. My omega wasn’t sure we should be going
there. To be honest, I’ve never actually been to his office. Maybe for some office events that required him to show up with his
wife, but if it wasn’t mandatory then he wouldn’t let me come.
I pulled the car to a stop in front of the building. Sighing as I got out. The security guards bowed their heads as I stepped through the doors. The wolves there didn’t bother with me, focusing on doing their job.
What their job is… I have no clue.
I’m sure it’s important. I got to the stairs, choosing to walk up to the third floor rather than take the elevator. I’ve been choked up
in the house. A good walk is good for my health. It wasn’t bad, tthias chose to have air conditioners in the staircase I will

I arrived on his floor feeling less angry than I’d been while driving. Damn, I shouldn’t have walked up. I waved to his receptionist,
who gave me a big grin.
“Hi, Marta, where’s my husband?”
“In his office to the right. His beta is in there too.”
I thanked her. I’ve never actually met Matthias’s beta. I know it’s a girl and she’s pretty incredible, but we haven’t crossed paths.
It would be nice to see her.
I knocked three times before entering the office. I stopped in my tracks, fingers wrapped around the door knob. Matthias was sitting slouched on his chair behind his desk while a petite, gorgeous blonde sat cross–legged on his desk. She was swinging one of her feet, brushing it against my husband’s knee. Both their heads turned my way.
“Aurielle, what are you doing here?” Matthias asked. I didn’t look at him. My eyes went to her.
She dragged her gaze down to my feet and then back up. “Oh, this is your wife. Uh, um… I’ll give you guys some space. Are we still on for tonight?” she inquired, hopping off his desk. Something about the way she said ‘This is your wife‘ rubbed me the wrong
way.
“Yes, we are. I could use a drink. I’m assuming Aurielle is here to add to my stress.”
She shook her head. “Not a good wife, I see. You deserve rest and a lot of love. But then again, I’m getting paid to be nice.” They shared a laugh. I wasn’t sure what was funny. She walked past me, bumping hard into my shoulder as she tried to leave. But 1 blocked her path, putting a smile on my face.
“I’m sorry we haven’t met. I’m Aurielle, your luna. I didn’t realize my husband was paying you to disrespect me.”
His beta furrowed her brows. “He’s not-
“Then don’t let it happen again.” She turned to Matthias and he only raised an eyebrow at her. Like silently asking what she
wants him to do?
Her face turned red, and she moved to the side to get past me.
I entered the office, shutting the door behind me.
I could ask questions. Like why he’s going out drinking with his beta who wore a short black dress with thigh–high boots to a workplace. I could do that. But I don’t. That is a confrontation I am not ready to have.
“You didn’t sign the papers,” I said. Staying close to the door.
He narrowed his eyes. “I told you I wasn’t going to sign it. Look, Lena and I have a lot of work to do. We can discuss this some
other time.”
I see. I didn’t argue with him, I didn’t fight him. Why would I do that? I yelled out my heart two days ago, showing my true anger

“Okay. See you at home.” I pulled away from the door and opened my bag. I took out the divorce papers, dumping them into the
trashcan in his office.
“Aurielle, what are you doing?”
I gave him one look. “Enjoy your drink tonight.”
Then I left. I spotted Lena on my way out, she glared at me but kept her words to herself. I don’t think Matthias is cheating, but I’m once again reminded that he would treat everyone better than he’d treat me.
