Why are you back again today? Cecilia plopped down at the dining table, shooting a glance at Julian, who was still standing there. “Have you eaten?”
Julian pressed his lips together, his voice icy. Yeah, I have.”
Cecilia stared at him for a moment. He must ve seen the news; otherwise, he wouldn’t look so ticked off.
She wanted to explain, ‘I…”
Julian cut her off coldly. “Finish your meal first.”
Knowing she was in the wrong, Cecilia quietly took a few bites, quickly finished her food, and sat across from Julian.
Juhan asked, still cold, “That’s all you’re eating?”
“Not hungry.”
Julian fell silent, a cold glint in his eyes.
The silence stretched between them.
After a long while, Julian finally spoke, ‘Did you eat your fill at the hotel?”
“It’s not what you think. Cecilia quickly responded.
“Then what is it?‘ Julian’s expression darkened.
Cecilia pressed her lips together, then told him what had happened.
Julian’s expression grew even darker after hearing her explanation. “You realized something was wrong, but you didn’t call me to pick you up?”
‘You were busy. Cecilia shrugged.
Julian’s face remained cold, like he was about to scold her.
Cecilia suddenly felt a chill down her spine.
“Alright, stop looking at me like that.” Cecilia crossed her arms, rubbing them to ward off the cold. “This was my fault. Tell me what you want, and I’ll do it. Except move back here.”
The coldness in Julian’s eyes lessened a bit. “Tomorrow’s promotional event, you’re coming with me.”
Hearing his words, Cecilia was a bit puzzled. After all, in her previous life, it was always Tamsin who accompanied him to such events.
Cecilia thought for a moment. Julian probably wanted her to help with the company’s PR, so she nodded. “Okay.”
“Tomorrow, I’ll have Cleo bring you a dress. You don’t need to pick one yourself,” Julian said indifferently.
Cecilia wanted to refuse, but bit back the words. After their conversation, Cecilia returned to her room, and her phone rang again.
“Cecilia! Didn’t you say you’d focus on your studies and stay out of trouble? What’s going on now?‘ Ollie’s voice came through.
Cecilia explained, “Uncle Ollie, I was framed. But you don’t need to worry about it. Julian and I have a plan to handle it.”
Hearing this, Ollie’s anger subsided a bit. ‘Be careful in the future. Don’t wait for things to blow up before fixing them.
Got it. Thanks, Uncle Ollie,” Cecilia said politely before ending the call.
Farly the next morning, Cleo knocked on her door.
Cecilia was browsing the news. Yesterday’s scandal had vanished without a trace. The Elikins had been efficient. Few people in their circle would know about it, and those who did would know to keep quiet.
Feeling relieved, Cecilia rubbed her eyes and opened the door. Seeing the dazzling white dress in Cleo’s hand, Cecilia was speechless for a moment.
Cleo looked a bit conflicted. ‘Mrs. Russell, Mr. Russell said you’re to wear this. He’s waiting for you in the living room.
“Alright, it’s fine.” Cecilia took the dress and smiled at Cleo. This luxurious white dress was originally meant for Tamsin. Looking at herself in the mirror, dressed in white, Cecilia felt a bit uncomfortable.
Chapter 23 Tamsin Falls Out of Favor–1
She went downstairs and saw Julian, giving him a cold look.
“What? Don’t you like the dress?” Julian, dressed in a high–end black suit, looked quite gentlemanly.
“No, Cecilia replied.
Julian narrowed his eyes while looking at her. He remembered that Cecilia used to love wearing white dresses. Her style was similar to Tamsin’s–simple and elegant–but Cecilia never looked as good in them as Tamsin did.
“White symbolizes purity,” Julian said flatly. “As Mrs. Russell, you need to maintain a positive image in public.”
Cecilia raised an eyebrow. “Is that so?”
Julian frowned. ‘Don’t be difficult.
“I’m not. I’ll cooperate with you at the event, Cecilia said, giving him a glance before walking out ahead of him. Owen was already waiting at the door.
The promotional event was being held at a newly acquired property of the Russell Group, and the environment there was quite nice. They were promoting the hotel and launching a new wine line. Cecilia’s role was to play the doting wife during the final Q&A.
When the car arrived, Cecilia saw a large crowd of reporters with cameras, even more than she had seen at Feynman University. It was really a sea of people. At this moment, Julian took her hand. She wanted to pull away, but the sound of cameras clicking reminded her of the occasion. So she obediently followed Julian out of the car.
Cecilia and Julian were both strikingly attractive, one in white and the other in black, making them even more eye–catching as they stood together.
