Sapphire.
All the things they were saying didn’t matter to me, I was shivering and where the guard had slapped me ached, I was still standing with my hands protecting my face.
I internally cursed myself, why didn’t I let him hit me? It was not any different than what i am used to. I know he wanted to punish me then I was only delaying the inevitable,
My eyes were closed, I didn’t want to see the snarl on his face when he was about to inflict pain on me.
It wouldn’t be any different from the look on my father’s face when he wanted to teach me a lesson, to remind me that I was nothing to him. He could end me in a blink of an eye and I would do nothing but watch and let the life drain out of me.
“Open your eyes,” he barked.
I didn’t waste any time. I schooled my features to hide my fear and opened my eyes to find him watching me closely. I kept my hands up just in case he wanted to surprise me
I stumbled back from him before I relaxed, his confused gaze tracked my steps before meeting my eyes.
“What the hell do you think you are doing?” he barked again.
I said nothing and just kept looking at him, Flowered my hand when I was certain he wasn’t going to hit me,
“You thought you were so smart, trying to escape me?”
I shook my head and refused to talk, he could try all he wanted but that’s all he was getting from me.

Ishuddered at the treatment I had gotten back at the border, the guard had gloated abour beating me up because I tried to runaway. I was that it was the same guard that Millicent unleashed on me
1 felt like crying, I was tired of being treated like a dog with no feelings. Pushed here and there with their demands
“Either you talk or you sleep in the dungeon. I feel like you have forgotten how bad this is for you.”

The woman in question, Millicem, stoned forward, her eyes blazing with anger. Before could react, she slapped me hard across the face, reopening the cut on my cheek. The pain was sharp, and I hit my tongue to keep from crying out

The Alpha raised a hand to silence her. “Enough,” he said, his voice was commanding. He tumed to a man standing beside him, the beta, whose eyes were equally as cold and calculating as the Alpha
“If what she says is true, then how did she end up attacking you, Millicent the beta asked, his gaze piercing
Millicent faltered her mouth opening and closing as she struggled to find words. He usual confidence seemed to waver, and she looked around. searching for support. She didn’t find any, I took pleasure in knowing that she was left flapping in the breeze.
“Well?” the Alpha pressed his eyes narrowing. “Is it true. Millicent!”
“L” Millicent hesitated, glancing around like someone was coming to save her. I almost scoffed ar that, “This this girl is a liart She deserves to rot in the dungeon, just like the rest of her pack!”
The beta nited his head, watching her closely. “That doesn’t answer the question,” he said calmly. “If you’ve never seen her before, how did she end up running through the woods? The door was locked, wasn’t it?”
Her face flushed with embarrassment. “She must have… she must have followed me! Yes, that’s She’s trying to frame me because she knows she’s
going to be punished.”
“Is that so? The alpha’s voice was icy, and he looked down at me. “What do you have to say for yourself?”
I swallowed hard, the taste of blood in my mouth. Tm telling the truth,” I insisted, “She came up to meet me earlier in the room and she was nasty.” I turned to the Alpha with a brow raised, “You really should have done better in choosing a life mate,” “Anyway, she was saying things because she thought I was a threat to her 1 thought it was over but she had a guard kidnap me from my room and she said he should kill me if he catches me, in my language, that means running for my life.”
My chin trembled as 1 said this but I took a deep breath to maintain my calm.
“Lies” Millicent shouted, but her voice lacked confidence.
The Alpha tumed to the Beta, who nodded slightly. “We’ll get to the bottom of this,” he said.
Millicent’s eyes widened in outrage. “You can’t believe her over mel I’m your fiancéel”
“And I am the Alpha,” he responded firmly. “This is my decision.”
Millicent glared at me, her eyes filled with hatred. “You won’t get away with thas,” she hissed.

A laugh bubbled out of my throat, surprising even myself. The sound drew their attention to me and I laughed so hard.
Millicent’s eyes narrowed, and she stepped forward her mouth opening to speak, but I cut her off
“All of that I said, my voice hard and sharp, “is because of a mate I don’t want,”
words hung in the air. “You thought you could control me, that I
would be desperate enough to cling to anyone who offered me safety, But Tavoid men like him, men who are like my Ether,”
The Alpha, who had been silent until now, bristled at my words. His eyes darkened, a flicker of anger passing over his features. Millicent opened her mouth to retort, but I turned to face the Alpha directly, meeting his gaze with a cold stare.
“If you have any decency, I continued, my voice steady despite the pounding in my cheat, “you’ll kill me now and free me from this misery Otherwise, I will end it myself. What my father did to you, I am sorry about that but I will not be punished and held against my will for something that I had no control over.”
A wave of esluustion washed over me, and I felt my strength waning. My vision blurred, and I closed my eyes briefly, fighting the overwhelming urge to collapse. When I opened them again, Millicent’s face was twisted in a incer.
“Do it,” she spat, her voice laced with venom. “Follow your miserable father’s path and end it. You’re not worth saving.”
A bitter laugh escaped my lips, but it was cut short as my world thed. The world spun around me, and I stumbled, unable to keep my balance. I felt the ground nach up to meet me, my head sunking it hard. Pain exploded in my skull, and darkness began to creep in at the edges of my vision
Somewhere in the distance, I heard the Alpha’s voice, but the words were muffled, distorted. I couldn’t make out what he was saying, and it didn’t matter. The darkness was closing in, and I felt myself slipping into unconsciousness.
Just before I succumbed to the void, a single thought flickered through my mind, perhaps this was a release, an escape from the torment that had become my life.
