Chapter 165
Aragon POV.
I gazed at Sapphire, her eyes clouded with worry, her brow furrowed in concern. The usual sparkle in her sapphire blue eyes had dimmed, replaced by a dull ache of fear. I knew I had to reassure her, to calm her fears, to bring back that spark.
I took her hand, leading her to the room we had designated as our safe space. The room was quiet, the only sound was the soft hum of the air conditioner and the distant rumble of the city outside. The walls were painted a calming shade of lavender, and adorned with pictures, I closed the door behind us, ensuring we were alone.
“Sapphire, I need to talk to you,” I said, my hand still clasped tightly in hers.
She looked up at me, her eyes searching, her gaze filled with a mixture of apprehension and desperate hope. “What is it, Aragon?” she asked, a tremor running through her words.
I took a deep breath, trying to choose my words carefully, to find the right balance of strength and reassurance.
“Everything is going to be okay,” I said, trying to sound confident and to project an unwavering belief in my own words,
“I just need to take care of Victor, and then we can go back to living our lives without fear. We can go back to the days of laughter and joy, back to the days before he darkened our doorstep.”
She nodded, but I could see the doubt in her eyes, a flicker of skepticism that refused to be extinguished.
“I understand,” she said. “But I’m tired of waiting, Aragon. I’m tired of always looking over my shoulder, wondering when Victor will strike again. I’m tired of living in this constant state of fear, of being trapped in this cage of uncertainty,”
I pulled her into my arms, holding her close, her head resting against my chest.
I could feel her trembling, her body shaking with a fear that I couldn’t fully comprehend, but understood deeply,
“I know,” I said. “I know how hard this has been for you, I know the weight of his shadow has been heavy on your heart, on our lives. But I promise you, I will do everything in my power to protect you and our son. I will not rest until Victor is stopped”
She pulled back, her eyes welling up with tears. “I miss him, Aragon,” she said. “I miss our son. I want to be reunited with him, to hold him in my
arms again.”
The words, heavy with grief, hung in the air between them. My heart ached at her words, a familiar ache that had become a constant companion since our son’s disappearance. I knew how much she missed our son, how much she longed to be with him again, I felt the same yearning, a deep emptiness that gnawed at my soul.
I didn’t know what to say, so I just held her, letting her cry. I held her tightly, my strong arms a haven against the storm of emotions that raged within her. Her tears, warm and salty, soaked into my tunic, a testament to the shared sorrow that bound us.
After a few moments, Sapphire composed herself, wiping away her tears with the back of her hand. The remnants of her tears left shimmering trails on her pale cheeks. “I’m sorry, Aragon,” she said. “I just feel so helpless.”
“You’re not helpless, Sapphire,” I said, taking her hand in mine. My hand was rough and calloused from years of battle, but my touch was gentle, reassuring. “You’re strong and brave. And I’m here for you, always.”
She smiled a small, sad smile that didn’t reach her eyes.
“Thank you, Aragon,” she said. “Just knowing that you’re here for me makes me feel better.”
We sat there in silence for a few moments, just holding each other. The silence, thick with unspoken emotions, was a comfort in itself. It was a shared space of grief, a place where we could be vulnerable without judgment.
Then she spoke up again.
‘Aragon, can I ask you something?” she said.
“Of course,” he replied. “What is it?”
“Do you think Victor will ever stop?” she asked. “Do you think he’ll ever leave us alone?”
I hesitated, unsure of how to answer. I didn’t want to lie to Sapphire, but I also didn’t want to scare her.
“I don’t know” I finally said “but I do know that I will do anything in my power to protect you and our son”
Sapphire nodded, seeming to accept my answer. We sat there in silence for a few more moments, just enjoying each other’s company. The crackling fire warmed our faces, and the scent of pine needles filled the air. It was a strange sense of peace, considering the impending danger we were facing.
Then Sapphire spoke up again. “Aragon, I have an idea,” she said.
“What is it?” I asked, turning to meet her gaze.
“I think we should try to gather more allies,” she said. “We can’t take on Victor and his men alone, We need more people on our side, More warriors, more archers, more people who believe in what we’re fighting for.”
I nodded, thinking about her idea. It wasn’t a bad plan, but it was also risky. If we gathered more allies, we would also be putting more people in danger. Victor’s men were ruthless, and they wouldn’t hesitate to target anyone who dared to stand against them.
But Sapphire was right, we couldn’t take on Victor alone. We needed more help. We needed to build a force strong enough to stand against his

tyranny.
“I’ll think about it.” I said finally. “But for now, let’s just focus on staying safe. We need to be at our best when the time comes.”
Sapphire wasn’t in the room when I made the call to the council. I didn’t want her to be so concerned about this but I would have to tell her soon.
She nodded, and it looked like this would work, for now, We sat there in silence for a few more moments, just enjoying each other’s company. The fire crackled, casting dancing shadows on the walls of the penthouse.
