Leah nodded her eyes never leaving Sapphire’s pale face. “Hang in there. Sapphire,” she whispered “We’re gonna get you through this.”
I pressed the pedal larder, the engine roaring as the carshot forward. I could still see Millicent in the mirror, standing there with a mix of anger and confusion on her face, but she was the least of my worries now. My mate needed my help, and I was damn well going to get her there in time.

I nodded, feeling a bump in my throat that made it hard to speak. There was nothing I could say, nothing that would make this feel any better, any less desperate Leah’s sobs grew louder, her whole body trembling with the force of her grief.
“How bad is it” Lasked, struggling to keep my voice steady. “The potency of the poison, I mean how much did she take?”
The doctor’s eyes darkened slightly as he glanced back down at his chart. “A lot more than her body weight,” he replied grimly. “Enough to kill even the strongest wolf”
