Chapter 29
“I bought it,” he said, his tone casual, but there was a certain satisfaction in his eyes. “It seemed like a good investment, and I thought it might be important for you. It’s yours if you ever want it back.”
I was speechless for a moment, my mind racing. Why would he buy the building? Was it just for the investment, or was it something more?
Gordon’s actions always seemed to be carefully calculated, and this was no exception. He had always known how to make me feel both cared for and unsettled.
“Why would you buy it?” I asked, my voice a little softer than I intended.
Gordon turned to me with a slight smile, his gaze steady and full of meaning.
“Because it’s part of your past, Valerie. And whether you admit it or not, that past
is part of you.

“If you ever want to reclaim it, it will be here. Just like everything else I’ve done for you–it’s all for you, in the end.”
I did not respond immediately, the weight of his words sinking in.
It was one of many moments where his actions spoke louder than words, and I was beginning to realize just how deeply
involved he was in my life, whether I fully accepted it or not.

When we arrived at the basement,
someone suddenly stepped out of his car, standing directly in the path of Gordon’s vehicle. I instantly recognized Anthony.
Gordon’s hand tightened on the steering wheel as his jaw clenched. “Should I just hit him?” he asked coldly, his tone devoid of any amusement.
I gasped, turning to him in alarm. “No, you’ll get into trouble if you do that!”

“It doesn’t matter,” Gordon replied, his voice calm but dangerously firm. “I’m used to handling things like this.”
“No,” I repeated, more forcefully. “Still not allowed. I think I really have to end it with Anthony once and for all.” I exhaled deeply, reaching for the door handle.
Gordon grabbed my wrist before I could leave. “Are you serious about this?” he asked, his voice laced with an unfamiliar vulnerability.
I met his gaze, nodding firmly. “It should end here. If not, a person like Anthony will always pursue me like before.”
Gordon hesitated for a moment before releasing my wrist. He nodded silently, his usual confidence muted as he leaned back in his seat, watching me step out of the car.
Anthony wasted no time striding toward me, his expression dark with a mix of anger and desperation.
The first thing he said, in a voice sharp

with accusation, was, “What is your relationship with Gordon that you‘ re coming with him at this hour?”
I crossed my arms, refusing to let his words shake me. “That’s none of your business, Mr. Harris.”
Anthony’s eyes flashed with frustration. “Of course, it’s my business! Haven‘ t you heard about his reputation? He’s worse than all the men you‘ ve ever known, Daisy.”
I raised an eyebrow and retorted, “Did you just admit you‘ re one of the worst men I’ve ever known, Mr. Harris?”
Anthony stumbled over his words, caught off guard. “Yes… yes, I’m not denying that. But I never wanted to divorce you, Daisy. I only… I only wanted the baby. Once it was born, I planned for us to raise it together. Julie never mattered to me.”
His confession felt like a blade slicing through old wounds. The pain of those

My vision blurred with tears I had not shed in so long, tears that at that moment fell freely down my cheeks.
“So, it’s always been about an heir?” I asked, my voice trembling. “Anthony, if you had just been honest with me, I would have divorced you years ago without a second thought.”
