Chapter 8: The Breaking Point
Kate
“Silverfang!” Tyson commanded.
Wolves immediately stopped talking and turned to him. Stella stood beside him,
smiling confidently. She looked ready to bask in whatever glory Tyson would hand
her.
Tyson hadn’t told me about this meeting.
It was Aurora who warned me.
“It’s about changes,” she said.
And I knew exactly what kind of changes.
Heads turned as I stepped inside. Tyson noticed me, and his jaw tightened. Stella gripped Tyson’s arms, looking a little worried.
“I’ve called you here tonight to discuss. changes for the future…”
“Before you discuss this so–called future, I

wanted to ask a question,” I cut him off.
The silence was immediate. Wolves turned to me. Tyson glared at me, and his nostrils. were flaring.
“Kate, don’t,” he warned.
I ignored him and turned to Stella. Her confidence faltered but recovered quickly.
“Who’s the father of your child?” I asked.
The room froze. Gasps rippled through the crowd. Stella’s hand jerked from Tyson‘ s arm, and her shoulders stiffened.
“What kind of question is that?” she snapped.
“A fair one,” I replied.
“You‘ ve been parading that pregnancy like a badge of honor. Surely, you should have no problem answering.”
“It’s Tyson‘ s!” she said, her voice. rising.

I raised an eyebrow.
“Then repeat it. This time, loud enough for the entire pack to hear.”
Her lips parted, but no words came out. The color drained her face as she glanced at Tyson, searching for support.
“It’s mine! And that’s enough, Kate!” Tyson growled, stepping in front of her protectively.
“Oh, I don’t think it is,” I shot back.
“If you’re so sure, Tyson, why haven’t you asked her yourself? Why are you letting me do it?‘
Tyson’s eyes turned dark. His wolf stirred, wanting to come out.
“You‘ re out of line.”
“I’m asking a simple question. Or are you afraid of the answer?”
“Stop it!” Stella shouted.

her belly in a protective touch.
“This is just your other attempt to
embarrass me! You‘ re jealous because you failed him!”
“Failed him?” I smiled.
“No, Stella. I didn‘ t fail. I didn’t lie.”
The crowd stirred, their murmurs turning to growls. Tyson‘ s fists clenched, his wolf roaring to break free.
“Enough!” he barked, silencing the
room.
“Then demand the truth! Or you know the truth, but you’re just too desperate.”
His eyes went to Stella, and for the first time, I saw uncertainty of what to do.
“Stella, answer her.”
Her lips trembled.
“I already did! It’s yours, Tyson!” Stella
shouted.

“Then prove it,” I said, stepping closer to
her.
“Let the healers run a test. It‘ ll take a day. Maybe less.”
“No!” Stella blurted in panic.
“That’s invasive and dangerous for the baby!”
“Dangerous?” I laughed.
“Or are you afraid of what the results will show?”
“Tyson, this is insane! You can’t let her stress me like this. Think about the baby!” Stella pleaded, clutching at Tyson’s arms.
Tyson’s fury immediately ebbed and was replaced with concern.
“Kate, that’s enough. I won’t let you keep attacking Stella,” he ordered.
“Attacking her? I chuckled.

start.”
His wolf growled low, but he tightened his fists to control it.
“If you can’t accept her place here, maybe you shouldn’t be Luna anymore.
There’s the change; he finally said it. It hurts like a slap, but I didn’t flinch. Instead, I straightened, holding his gaze.
“You‘ re right. I shouldn’t be. I shouldn’t be tied to this circus and be the person to blame. It isn’t worth it.”
Tyson and the rest of the pack stared at me in confusion.
“And so, I reject you, Tyson. I reject you as my Alpha and as my mate.”
Gasps erupted from the crowd. Stella‘ s eyes widened, and Tyson‘ s expression shifted from anger to disbelief.
“Kate don‘ t do this,” he said, almost pleading.

“It’s already done,” I said firmly.
“Accept it.”
“Kate, it shouldn’t have to…”
“I said accept it!”
His jaw worked as he struggled to speak.
“Fine! I accept it. You are no longer my mate. Or my Luna.”
The pack erupted in chaos. Stella‘ s smirk returned, faint but triumphant, as I turned and walked out.
