I liked the post. Closed my phone and packed
my bags.
The next morning, Jake’s secretary sent over a
dress for me. I opened it up, it was last
season’s.
That night, when I got to the party, Sam was
finishing his speech. He announced that all of
the Hamilton project were being managed by
Tiffany.
Everyone seemed jealous, saying she had
everything. Childhood sweethearts that would
protect her.
When I walked in the room everyone stopped,
they had a look of curiosity and expectation on
their faces.
く
Jake was busy, he had no time for me. So
Tiffany took his place and pulled me out to the
balcony.
She dropped the act, revealing her true self.
She was cruel, she was poisonous.
“Sarah, you are still the same old loser.”
“I’ve been in paradise these past three years,
thanks to your husband. Don’t tell me you
believe Jake married you because he loved you?
Truth is, you were nothing but a piece of paper
that he needed, otherwise you would not have
got a single glance from him!”
“Sarah, you are a joke!”
A surge of rage rushed through me and I hit her
in the face.
<
She laughed and stepped back, falling down the
stairs.
A scream echoed through the hall. Jake was
there in a second, hugging her to him.
He looked up at me, his eyes full of hate.
“What are you doing? Are you insane?”
“Tiffany is just being friendly, why did you push
her? Didn’t you say you wouldn’t pursue the
issue anymore? Why are you acting up today?!”
I was cold, I had no emotion in my voice.
“Acting up?”
“Jake, shouldn’t you give me an explanation?”
He frowned. A flash of panic in his eyes.
“Explanation? Tiffany has been trying to atone

these three years, what more do you want?”
“It doesn’t matter what happened before, you have no right to lay a hand on her!”
“Sarah, apologize to her now!”
Before I could say a word, Tiffany was already crying, leaning in to him.
“Don’t…don’t push Sarah, it was all my fault, I’m so sorry, today was my fault…”
“Since she dislikes me so much, I think it’s best
that we stop seeing each other, I don’t want to
put you in a bind.”
My nails were digging into my palm, blood
dripped from my hands. I could only look at
them, watching them walk away together. I
knew, we were done.
I was thrown out of the party.
Two hours later I got a text from Jake.
“Tiffany is still getting over her past, don’t
blame her, I had to apologize for you to make
peace with the Hamilton’s. I’ll be home tonight
to make it up to you, I said I was going to give you a gift, don’t be upset okay?”
I knew that this show wasn’t for the Hamilton’s.
It was for me. He put on this show for three
years, I knew it was over.
I waited until the early morning with the divorce
papers. He never came home.
Instead, there were articles online about the
president of the Johnson Corp. making a scene
at the hospital to save the women he loved.
Tiffany was only a little hurt, but he had called
all the doctors in the hospital for her, spending
millions.
In the pictures, he was holding her. He had that
く
gentle, loving look that I had never seen.
In the morning, I called him.
He didn’t say a word, he was too busy ordering
his secretary around.
“Mr. Johnson, are you really going to give the
resort to Ms. Tiffany? Our company is going to
take a hit for this!”
“Please rethink this?”
“Do it. This is her compensation, and get a new
contract ready, give half of the company’s
stock to Tiffany.”
After the secretary left, Jake answered the
phone.
“Sarah? I’m so sorry that I made you wait, I’ll
be home soon. By the way, is there anything
you wanted?”
<
I looked down at the divorce papers in my
hands.
“No, you busy, I won’t bother you.”
“Okay, wait for me, I’ll be back soon.”
I didn’t wait.
I signed the divorce papers.
Packed my bags and left home.
I called the police to get me a copy of the
release form. I sent it to Jake.
By the time I got on the plane he should have
gotten it.
