Chapter 15
Sean had never been someone who could
handle pressure.
When the Ryan Family‘ s investments failed overseas, his father jumped to his death under the weight of billions in debt, while his mother fell ill and never
recovered. The entire burden of the Ryan Family fell on Sean’s shoulders.
But what did Sean do?
He spent the night sneaking away with everything of value from the family, leaving Tracie and his mother cornered by creditors.
If it hadn’t been for Tracie‘ s quick thinking, they would‘ ve been sold off to some dirty, dangerous place by those ruthless men.
If it hadn’t been for his mother’s dying wish, urging Tracie to help her brother, Tracie wouldn’t have said another word to

Sean. She certainly wouldn’t have used Floyd’s name to con her way into helping Sean secure his position as chief surgeon.
Tracie shot a look of disgust at Sean, who was now so frightened he couldn’t even. form a complete sentence. Her mind was made up.
“The nurse taking care of Lumina–she’s one of your people, right? Tell her that if she puts a little something into Lumina’s IV, she’ll slip away without anyone noticing.”
“As long as Lumina’s body stays in this hospital, no one will ever uncover the
truth.”
That night, as the nurse was changing Lumina‘ s bandages, she discreetly took a pink syringe from her pocket.
Although the ICU was relatively cool, sweat beaded on the nurse’s forehead and her
hand shook uncontrollably as she gripped the syringe.
In her anxiety, she dropped it. She bent

down to retrieve it, but before she could
even move, a shadow loomed in front of
her.
Before she had a chance to speak, a bodyguard grabbed her and tossed her out
of the room.
Outside stood Floyd, his expression cold. and full of fury.
The nurse’s face went ashen and she collapsed in fear.
Without a word, Floyd motioned for someone to pour a bucket of ice–cold water over her head.
The shock of the freezing water snapped her back to consciousness. Meanwhile, the syringe that had fallen to the floor was quickly picked up by his assistant.
“It’s been tested,” the assistant said. “It’s a potent neurotoxin. Just 0.1 milligrams would cause respiratory failure and death.
“And in Ms. Shields‘ current state, in such

a deep coma, she wouldn’t even have the chance to cry out for help.”
Floyd had the nurse pinned down, his expression cold and unforgiving, as if he were staring at a corpse. “Who ordered you to do this?”
The nurse trembled, unable to utter a single coherent word. One of the bodyguards immediately stomped on her ankle with all his force.
The excruciating pain made the nurse scream uncontrollably. If the bodyguard hadn’t quickly covered her mouth, her cries would have echoed through the entire hospital.
“Who ordered you to do this?” Floyd asked again.
This time, the nurse didn’t hesitate. She collapsed to the ground, sobbing in despair. “It was Tracie and Sean… they were the ones who made me do it.”
Floyd felt the blood in his veins rush to his

head, his fists clenching as he fought to control his fury.
With his jaw clenched tight, Floyd forced. the words through gritted teeth, “Why?”
“Because, after we came back from Mount Gravenwood, Ms. Shields‘ legs were broken and her organs severely
deteriorated. She couldn’t survive much longer. But Tracie, wanting to get rid of Ms. Shields, teamed up with Sean to make it look like she was fine. When she heard you were planning to transfer Ms. Shields yesterday, she panicked. She was afraid that another hospital might uncover the truth, so she had me act first.”
