Derick listened.
His skin prickled with cold sweat.
All these years of luxury.
It had made him forget where he came from.
He’d forgotten that everything he had now–his wealth, his power–came from draining the life out of his late wife.

A sharp knock on the head jolted him into clarity.
He immediately shouted.
“Cass, I never acknowledged a divorce with your mother. In my heart, she’s always been my wife–the woman I love most!”
Cassius raised an eyebrow. “You really believe that?”
Derick took a shaky step forward.
“Cass, I raised you from nothing. You’re successful because of me!”
“I don’t expect you to be a good son. But you can’t just betray me now.”
Gemma clenched her fists, anger flashing in her eyes.
“You call this betrayal? Look at the mess you’ve made!”
‘Cassius didn’t get where he is because of you. He’s great because he inherited Aunt Evan’s genes, not yours.”
“And if you want to talk about genes, look at William’s fate–need I say more?”
“Gross pig!”
Shawn quietly gave Gemma a thumbs–up.
She was on fire.
Cassius glanced at her, a flicker of recognition crossing his face.
Like a little wild cat.
She reminded him of the wild girl he remembered, the one who’d take on the world without hesitation.
His expression grew darker.
Derick snapped, “You little–what do you even know about anything!”
He tried to approach Gemma.
But she stood firmly beside Cassius. He couldn’t get close.
“Cass, think about it. If we go public with the divorce, who do you think will end up as the laughingstock?”
Derick pleaded. “Your mom’s been gone for years. You don’t want her memory dragged through the mud, do you?”
“She cared about her reputation. Can’t you just understand for once?”
Cassius sneered.
“If she cared about her reputation, she never would’ve married you in the first place.”
A rich girl marrying a poor guy-
No matter the dowry, she still had to cut ties with her family.
That was her last bit of dignity.
She was a joke in her circle since then
Because of this, Derick promised her he’d love only her forever.

Derick’s face twitched, unable to find the words to fight back.
“L… Back then, we… Anyway, don’t let your mom turn in her grave, alright?”
Cassius nodded. “You’re nigla.”
Derick thought he’d finally gotten through to him, and a brief flicker of relief crossed his face.
“I knew you were a good kad. Don’t worry, once i get back. I’ll divorce Pamela. She’s the one who drove a wedge between us.”
“You’ve spent all these years getting closer to your cousin’s kid instead of sharing a meal with your own family. What a shame.”

“Once I deal with Pamela and her son, you can move back in. We’ll play some chess, chat like old times.”
But Cassius’s tone cooled again, sharp as ice.
Like the dead of winter.
Frozen over.
Cassius tilted his head, “You’re right, though. The old house you’re living in should be returned to me. That’s the place mom put in my name.”
That was the place where Derick and his family of three lived now.
The front yard’s a wreck, torn up by bulldozers and left in ruins, but that’s nothing compared to the backyard.
The back area’s got a whole other level of luxury with its fancy renovations.
Derick’s eyes widened. “Cass, you…”
Shawn couldn’t resist. “If you want to stay, you’d better start paying rent–market price!”
He winked. “I have a collection agency on hand. Interested, Mr. Raven? I’ll have them come over and put on a show for you.”

He finally got it through his thick skull–Cassius was dead set on cutting him off.
Just ‘cause he fired him in a hot–headed rage? That’s it?
“Cass, don’t let your temper call the shots here!”

He stole a glance at Cassius‘ face.

Evangeline’s 60% stake loomed in his mind–that godawful deal he’d made years back.
A necessary evil to claw his way into Raven Group’s throne.
But if he could reclaim those shares now? Game set match.
Let the kid hoard his cash. Real power flowed through boardroom veins.
Once he tightened his grip, he’d make Cassius eat every last humiliating word.
Gemma rubbed her bare wrist, fury simmering. Should’ve brought more blades with her.
She’d have loved to skewer the old bastard like a kabob.

Shawn’s laughter boomed on cue.

Derick’s face turned tomato–red, veins throbbing like live wires. One wrong move and he’d stroke out right there.
Cassius waved his hand.
“Send him back,” he said coldly. “Take care of his son.”
Derick tried to recover, but it was too late. Cassius pulled Gemma close and walked away, not giving him a chance to speak.

Brooke appeared in front of Derick.

Reluctantly, Derick climbed into the car, his phone buzzing in his hand.
He opened the social media apps.
The news was everywhere–his divorce from Evangeline was trending, and the truth was spilling out,

At the mansion, the little puppy ran to greet them as soon as they arrived.
