Chapter 174: Did You Take the Abortion Pills?
Gemma hadn’t expected that answer.
She froze for a moment.
Brian quickly explained, pointing to the books on her desk.
“I noticed you were reading up on this kind of stuff, so I figured you’d be interested. And, well, you must already have a bit of a foundation.” “The lecture is geared toward people who already know the basics and want to improve.”
“Guess I’m not cut out for it.”
“But I won’t lie,” he continued, “I’m curious now too. After all, I run a pharmaceutical company, and we’re looking for new directions.”
“So, if you figure it out, make sure you teach me too.”
Gemma let out a breath of relief. “No problem, if you need it, I’ll share my notes with you.”
“And if there’s anything you need me to explain, I’m your go–to.”
“If I really make a breakthrough and your company could use help, I’d be more than happy to lend a hand.”
Brian paused, defeated.
How did they go from promoting feelings to discussing business?
He cleared his throat. “Okay, okay.”
“Do you have time now? I’d love to see your notes, and maybe you could teach me the basics?”
Gemma nodded, walked over, and pulled up a file on her computer.
“This is the course I had a friend overseas help me get. Trust me, it’s way better than me explaining it.”
Brian, “…”
He reluctantly took the course materials.
No rush.
There’s plenty of time.
After work.
Gemma remembered she had a wish to fulfill. Just then, Elizabeth called, saying she missed her. Gemma guessed it was time for Elizabeth to ask her to come over and take care of some details.
She thought about it, then sent a message to Cassius and hopped in a cab to Raven’s private hospital.
As soon as she entered the ward, she froze. Keagan was kneeling on the floor, his forehead bruised, clearly from banging his head. Elizabeth looked as calm as ever.
But this elderly woman had mastered the art of hiding her emotions, so Gemma couldn’t guess what she was thinking.
She hadn’t expected this scene when she knocked and entered.
She was about to leave, but Elizabeth waved her over. “Gem, come here.”
Gemma had no choice but to walk up.
If Elizabeth didn’t want her to see this, she would’ve said something when Gemma knocked.
Elizabeth took her hand and sat her down by the bed.
“Good girl, have you looked into pregnancy and childbirth at all?”
Gemuna blinked, “What?”
“Madame, I am a doctor working on cardiology and neurology.”
“I know, but I also know that, you’re a general practitioner.”
Gemma lowered her gaze.
When she was pregnant before, she had done tons of research, studying ancient texts and even digging into pregnancy–related knowledge,
“I know a bit, but I’m no expert”
Elizabeth nodded, letting out a small sigh.
“Susie, you know, my daughter–in–law, her pregnancy isn’t stable. I’d like you to take a look.”
Gemma had already suspected this.
“I can help, but I can’t make any promises ”

Elizabeth shook her head. “I know you. Just tell me the truth.”
She then explained that Susie’s pregnancy issues were because of Keagan’s recent obsession with his estranged wife.
He had been pestering Susie.
It had made Yvonne unhappy.
The three of them had a fight, and Susie was pushed over and spotting blood.
The doctors said it was dangerous.
Elizabeth really cared about Susie.
She knew if the baby didn’t make it, Susie’s relationship with the Beasley family would be over.
Keagan obviously understood this too.
He looked at Gemma with a desperate, hopeful expression.
“Ms. Kelestine, it was all my fault. I apologize. Please, save Susie.”
Gemma didn’t want to talk to him.
She only asked Elizabeth, “Where is Susie?”
“In the room next door.”
Gemma raised an eyebrow.
So why was this jerk kneeling here? He should be over there kneeling.
Elizabeth must have sensed her thoughts and shot her son a look of pure disappointment.
Gemma didn’t want to get involved in their family drama, so she didn’t say anything more and went to the next room.
At the door stood Claudia’s bodyguards.
After Gemma explained, they let her in.
As soon as she opened the door, a strong smell of blood hit her.
She frowned and glanced at the bed.
Susie looked pale, her eyes hollow, aged beyond her years.
The IV drip next to her suggested she was on medication to stabilize the pregnancy.
On the other side, Claudia was rubbing her temples, the sharp, confident woman she once was nowhere to be seen, replaced by exhaustion. Both women looked up when the door opened.
When they saw it was Gemma, Susie closed her eyes, tears rolling down her cheeks.
Her voice was raspy, like sandpaper.
“Mom said you’d come to save me… you really came. You fool.”
Claudia also opened her eyes and looked at Gemma.
In an instant, her proud, haughty expression returned.
“It’s nice you came, but she doesn’t need you. Go back and tell that old woman, Kinston, and the Susie’s family won’t let Beasley go easy!” Gemma sighed. “I’m not the messenger. I’m a doctor now.”
Claudia shot her a surprised glance.
“Wait, aren’t you Mr. Cassius’s person? Don’t you want to get in with the old lady?”
Gemma paused.
“So you had your bodyguards let me in just to be a messenger? Sorry, but I can’t do that. I’m leaving.”
She was a doctor, and if the patient didn’t want her help, she respected that.
After all, there were a lot of people who changed their attending doctor every day. The doctors couldn’t be frustrated about this kind of thing everyday, right?
But just as she reached the door, Claudia called her back.
“Ms. Kelestine, are you really just here to help Susie?”
Gemma turned around, smiling.
“Why else would I be here? To watch you two make a fool of yourselves or let you humiliate me?”
Claudia froze.
She had been raised with the highest standards, and anyone who dared speak back to her, except for Cassius, had never ended up well. But now, she wasn’t angry.
“Fine Go ahead and check. She’s really not doing well.”
