Chapter 182: It’s Not the Right Time for Lover’s Bridge
Marcus felt even more frustrated now.
He’d been raised by Margaret While he appreciated everything she did for him, he’d always feir suitleened.
But he knew Margaret had it hard.
His father passed away early.
Margaret had to raise him and keep the company afloat, even when the Wilson Group was on a steady decime
By the time he took over, the company was practically a ghost.
That’s why he’d pissed off so many people. That’s why his eyes went bad.
But he still appreciated Margaret
So, for all these years, he’d been careful to protect her dignity.
He just wanted his mother to have a peaceful and happy old age.
But he never expected Margaret to get worse, to keep controlling him.
He really wanted to escape this life.
“I’m not going!”
His face darkened, his tone almost threatening now.
“If every time you call me back, it’s for this, then I’m done. I’m not coming back.”
He stood up, ready to leave.
But then the sound of a vase shattering stopped him.
He turned around and saw Margaret on the floor, picking up a shard of glass and pressing in to her throat.
She was pressing so hard that blood started to ooze from the cut.
His face went white, his heart almost stopped.
“Mom! Mom, what are you doing? Let go! Don’t do something crazy v
Margaret only pressed harder. “Don’t come any closer”
Marcus froze in place, scared to move, not wanting to provoke her.
Margaret’s eyes were red, her voice choked,
“Do you know how hard it was to raise you on my own?”
“I was so scared I’d mess up and ruin your life.”
Ive always tried to be good, to do the right thing, so you could grow up safe and I could pass Wilson on to your
“I thought you’d develop the company and marry a respectable woman, and I’d be waiting for grandkids.”
“But who knew you’d go blind? I know someone’s behind this, but I don’t have the power to find them.”
“So I had to find a way to trick them, and that’s why I pushed you into this marriage.”
“Gemma’s just some country girl, a nobody!”
“I didn’t want her anywhere near you, but her low status is the only thing that kept those people off your back, thinking you were done for.”
“I was ready to accept it. If she could take care of you, fine.”
“But look at you now!”
Max, you’re a golden boy, the heavens favor you.”
She got more emotional, the shard of glass digging deeper into her neck.
Marcus was frozen, unsure how to react.
“Mom, please, don’t do this. What do you want? Just say it, I’ll do it. I’ll go along with it.”
He took a step forward, but Margaret backed away,
He had no choice but to stand still, trying to keep her calm.
Tears slid down Margaret’s face.
Teven tried to let Gemma go. She agreed, but that damned girl drugged you and got pregnant.”
Thad no choice but to give in. We can’t be ungrateful to the Wilson family!”
“But Max, you’re divorced now!”
I’m not even sixty yet, I’m still young Ill take care of All for you.”

“If Mabel has a baby, boy or girl, I’ll take care of it for you.”
“You don’t have to worry. After you remarry, I won’t let the kid interfere with your new family.”
“I know, you’ll probably want to have your own kids later, but what if your new wife can’t have them? Or worse?”
“Then I’ll be here, to give you a backup,”
“But you don’t understand, Max. I’m only doing this for you. I’d rather die than see you stuck.”
“Mom!”
Seeing Margaret really about to harm herself, Marcus gave up and nodded.
“Okay, I’ll do it. I’ll go on the blind date. I’ll go right now, okay?”
Margaret’s face lit up with a smile.
“Who are you meeting first? I’ll arrange it.”
The one you have in mind.” Marcus sighed, defeated.
Margaret looked at the photo, smiling even more.
“This is from the Black family. You two will definitely have something to talk about.”
‘I’ll call them now. I’ll book the restaurant. And don’t think you can slack off. If you don’t behave, I’ll be here waiting.”
Marcus had given up completely.
He felt drained, like all his energy had been sucked out.
An hour later.
He arrived at the designated restaurant to meet Thea Black.
Thea was wearing a long dress that reached her ankles, her hair falling gracefully on her shoulders, looking quite stunning.
She ordered two dishes and asked what he liked to eat.
Marcus felt a bit dazed.
What did he like to eat?
Gemma’s cooking was amazing. Everything she made tasted so good.
Even though he pretended not to care, he always ate it all.
He really missed her cooking now.
The chef here had supposedly worked for royalty, but looking at the menu, he still had no appetite.
“Anything’s fine.”
His voice was hoarse, like he had no strength left.
He felt sick, like he had some serious illness.
Thea paused, then looked him over.
“Mr. Wilson, are you alright? You don’t look well. Should we go to the hospital?”
“We’re here for a blind date, not to talk about my personal business.” Marcus’s tone was a warning.
If it weren’t for Margaret threatening him, there’s no way he’d be sitting here like this.
Thea was a proud, high–class lady.
She was already fuming inside.
But she needed this marriage to improve her situation and get the family fortune.
She swallowed her anger.
‘Fine, I’ll take care of it.”
The meal was awkward, barely any conversation.
Thea spoke most of the time, and Marcus only responded a few times.
It looked polite, but both of them felt uncomfortable.
After dinner, Thea suggested.
“I heard the Lover’s Bridge by the church is lucky, and the leather bands they sell there work wonders. Should we go check it out?”
Marcus rubbed his forehead.
The meal had already worn him out. Who had the energy to hike?
“It’s not the right time for Lover’s Bridge. Let me take you home first.”
Thea sighed inwardly.

As she thought about whether this marriage candidate was worth pursuing, Marcus spoke again.
“If you really want to go, we can check it out.”
He set his phone down.
A message from Cedric popped up.
Apparently, Gemma was at the church.
He knew if he showed up, Gemma would be angry. But if he brought someone along, maybe it would be fine.
Thea’s face brightened.
“Great! But we’ll need to prepare some things first. How about you come pick me up in two hours?”
