Chapter 186: Finally Found a Reason to Hold Gemma

Gemma got in the car, glancing back through the rearview mirror

She couldn’t help but check, just in case something went wrong

When she saw that Marcus hadn’t followed, she let out a sigh of relief

Good thing he didn’t chase us.”

Used to ignore me completely, now he’s like a stalker”

If this wasn’t a civilized society, I swear I’d want to turn him into a cripple.”

Cassius lightly tapped the steering wheel

Seatbelt.”

As Gemma buckled up, she muttered, I should’ve made a proper wish yesterday. Totally forgot.”

Really need to cut off all these bad connections.”

Cassius raised an eyebrow. Bad connections? Why do you say that?”

Gemma sighed, a little exasperated

Being liked by someone you can’t stand is so stressful. I just want Marcus and I to keep our distance. Never see him again would be perfect.”

If we’d just divorced on good terms from the start, maybe I could still remember the good parts of him. Think he was a decent guy.”

Now, I just keep wondering if I was the blind one back then, not him.”

Cassius started the car, his lips curving up just a bit more

The car behind us keeps honking, weird. Why doesn’t it just pass us?”

Gemma, already annoyed, rolled her eyes

People like that were the worsthonking but not even overtaking

But Cassius’s expression suddenly grew serious

Ahead, a car came out of nowhere, speeding directly at them

Without a care, it was heading straight for them

Cassius, though calm on the outside, was clearly focused. His eyes narrowed, the grip on the steering wheel tightened

Suddenly, the wheel spun, and the car drifted, narrowly avoiding the collision

Gemma’s heart leaped into her throat

Her whole body went cold with sweat

She didn’t dare say a word, gripping the handle beside her, bracing herself

Cassius’s eyes were dark, a chill in his gaze that could freeze blood

With one hand firmly on the wheel, he asked, You scared?”

Gemma was terrified

But she knew there was no point in panicking now

The car behind them was gaining on them, slamming into the back of their car

The impact made the car shake

But thanks to the safety modifications, everything seemed okay except for the jolt

Yeah, I’m scared, but I’m not done living, and neither are you. Let’s make sure we both survive this.”

Gemma knew this was just like last time-

Probably hired killers after them

But who sent them? Was it Derick

No point in freaking out

She had to calm down, find a way out, and figure out how to escape

She shut her eyes, though her mind was a complete mess, no clear solutions coming to her

Cassius, incredibly, was still speaking calmly..

You trust me, and I won’t let you down.”

Suddenly

Boom

Chapter 186: Finally Found a Reason to Hold Gemma

The force of centrifugal motion hit Gemma like a shockwave, making her adrenal glands explode

She could almost feel the surge of adrenaline pumping through her

On the edge of life and death, she glanced at the dashboard

It said 290 km/h

Cassius was exuding a dangerous aura now, his violent side impossible to suppress

The air in the car felt thick with danger, with bloodlust almost palpable

With Cassius’s exceptional driving skills, the cars behind them began crashing into each other, some even veering off a cliff

Probably because of the huge loss

Those chasers were desperate

And then a massive crash

The passenger side door was hit by another car that had come up alongside them, causing another violent shake

The car’s nose was headed straight for the cliff

If they hit the guardrail, they’d plummet down

It was a death sentence

Cassius’s face was thunderous. He jerked the wheel, and the car sped up even more

Just when everyone thought he was losing it, about to drive straight off the edge, he pulled the car in a sharp curve, right back from the cliff’s edge

Gemma!”

Cassius’s voice was full of anger now, unlike anything she’d heard from him before

Gemma’s face was pale, her mind still reeling from the neardeath experience

Fear and relief kept colliding in her head, and she couldn’t think straight

But when Cassius called her name, she finally snapped back to reality

Weakly, she managed to say, Cassius, I’m okay.”

It was the best she could do, her voice barely above a whisper

Cassius’s eyes darkened, an unusual bloodred tint bleeding into them

It was as if he was a demon from hell

His lips curled slightly

Want to die, then go ahead

The car slammed the brakes

At over 300 km/h, the car screeched to a halt, and the cars behind them couldn’t stop in time, crashing into each other

More cars were destroyed

Cassius didn’t even look back. His focus was on the car that had hit the passenger side earlier

He looked in the rearview mirror, then quickly turned the car around

He floored it, driving straight at the car that had caused all the chaos

The driver of that car, thinking they were safe, was about to get out.

But before they could, Cassius rammed their car headon

The airbags deployed, and the driver was knocked unconscious

Cassius’s car turned smoothly back down the mountain, and the cars behind them didn’t dare follow

They had seen enough of the wreckage

Gemma, shaken, stayed silent the rest of the drive, her cold sweat never easing

The passenger door was dented and wouldn’t open

So Cassius told her to climb out the other side

She carefully tried to move but was suddenly yanked back into the car.

Cassius grabbed both of her hands, and with one swift pull, he hauled her into his lap

For a moment, Gemma felt as if she had just defied gravity

She landed in his warm embrace, his scent engulfing her senses, calming her chaotic thoughts

Slowly, her heartbeat steadied, the fear beginning to melt away

When she finally came to her senses, she realized how close they were

Chapter 186: Finally Found a Reason to Hold Gemma

Their breaths mingled, and her heart began to race again-

This time, even more wildly than before

Are you hurt?”

Cassius’s voice was low, his breath warm against her neck

It tickled, and Gemma’s pale neck flushed pink

I’m fine. Just a little shaken.”

She turned her face away from him, trying to get out of his grip, but Cassius wouldn’t let go

Just shaken?”

He gently pried her palm open

Her hand was bruised, and the skin was torn, her nails digging into her own flesh in the panic

She hadn’t even noticed
