Chapter 216: A Visit to Apologize
The police thought they had a lead.
“So you’re saying you actually have a connection to John?”
Marcus looked even more confused.
“John‘ Who’s that?”
The officer frowned. “Then what did you mean just now?”
Marcus stood up, visibly anxious as he stepped forward.
“I meant my wife–my wife is Gemma. I let her down. I want to apologize to her.”
The officer sighed. “…Go home, just go home.”
Marcus perked up instantly.
“Right! I’ll go to see her. I can’t waste time here.”
Without hesitation, he strode out of the station.
But the moment he stepped outside, he saw his assistant and secretary waiting for him.
“Mr. Wilson, the company is in chaos right now. We need you to take charge.”
“We allocated all our cash flow to the Raven family, and now we’re struggling to cover some payments. The shareholders are panicking.”
The money they had given the Raven family wasn’t a small sum.
They had planned to get it back.
But the Raven family’s downfall happened so fast-
There wasn’t even time to settle accounts.
So the entire board had rushed back to the office overnight, trying to salvage what they could.
Marcus, however, had no intention of going back.
“I’m going to find Gemma!”
“Mr. Wilson!”
Hector quickly blocked his path.
“Ms. Kelestine left the venue with Mr. Cassius. He’s the most sought–after man right now. Even if you go, you won’t see her.”
That single sentence hit Marcus like a slap to the face, instantly sobering him up.
His gaze grew sharper.
Gemma never cared about wealth or power-
But Cassius was the embodiment of both.
If he let the Wilson Group fall apart-
He’d lose any chance of seeing her again.
“Fine. Let’s go to the company.”
Inside the estate.
Gemma sat beside Noah, holding Candy in her arms.
Noah, dressed in adorable dinosaur pajamas, his little cowlick sticking up, looked back and forth between them with wide, curious eyes.
Sensing the shift in atmosphere, Candy wriggled out of Gemma’s arms and hopped onto Noah’s lap.
“Noah, ready for bed?”
Gemma ruffled his hair, her voice gentle.
Noah clutched Candy tightly. “But I’m not sleepy yet! I wanna hear how you’re gonna deal with the bad guys!”
Shawn, who had been standing nearby, scooped him up in one swift motion.
“Kid, you’re in luck! I’ll tell you all about it. Trust me, you won’t wanna miss a word!”
With that, he dashed upstairs.
The living room fell into silence once more.
Only Gemma and Cassius remained.
After a moment, Gemma spoke softly. “Tomorrow… are we going to Pine Garden?”

Cassius lifted his gaze.
His eyes were bloodshot.
That’s exactly what he had been thinking about.
Going to Pine Garden meant saying goodbye to Evangeline-
Laying her to rest.
And that village… it would be torn down for good.
Soon, new buildings would take its place.
A few years from now, no one would even remember Pine Garden.
Just like no one seemed to remember Evangeline.
The past had resurfaced today, but everyone’s attention was on Derick’s affair and his wife’s murder.
No one mourned the loss of a genius like Evangeline.
Thirty years ago, she had already mastered genetic modification–an achievement decades ahead of its time.
She should have been celebrated in history.
But because of a scumbag and his mistress, she was gone.
And now, just a handful of dirt would bury everything she was.
“You have to keep moving forward,” Gemma said gently. “She wouldn’t want to be a shadow in your heart.”
“You’ve already done so much. She’d be proud.”
“I’m free tomorrow. Let’s visit Mr. Harrington and discuss Evangeline’s burial arrangements.”
She knew this wasn’t over.
Back then, Evangeline had severed ties with her family through marriage to protect Mr. Harrington from backlash.
She had thought she was shielding Derick. But he had fallen for a simple seduction, walking straight into a trap.
The real enemies weren’t just John and Pamela. It was the people pulling their strings.
And sooner or later, they would face them head–on.
Cassius turned to her.
“Alright.”
His voice was hoarse-
Like it had been scraped raw over and over again.
It made her heart ache.
“Cassius,” Gemma said seriously.
“We should be happy. We avenged Evangeline.”
“As a woman, I can tell you–exposing a scumbag and cutting him out of your life? That’s one of the most satisfying things in the world.”
She, of all people, would know.
*Evangeline, wherever she is, must be thanking you for making him pay.”
She reached into her pocket and pulled out a small candy, handing it to him.
It was from Pine Garden
She had kept it with her all this time.
Now, it was finally coming to use.
Cassius took it, staring at it for a long moment.
His eyes reddened even more.
Understanding, Gemma quietly stepped away.
Cassius was a lone wolf, one who never revealed his weaknesses.
Only in the dead of night would he allow himself to grieve.
The next morning.
Gemma woke up early.
Not out of dedication, but because the estate was unusually noisy.
She stepped outside and saw the reason why. Stella and Mr. Harrington had arrived.
Vincent was dressed formally today–black suit, blue tie, and even a black cane to match.

His silver hair was slicked bark
And judging by the smoother look of his face, he had probably even put on some makeup
He had brought gifts.
Three entire truckloads.
Stella didn’t visit often, but her face was in the security system
The gates had opened for her without question, and no one dared stop her.
But the servants were all whispering, worried Vincent had come to cause trouble.
That was what had woken Gemma up
Yet, looking at him now. He didn’t seem like he was here to start a fight
“Tell Cassius I’m here to apologize”
Vincent said quietly to the butler
He could have barged in and said it to Cassius‘ face.
But as an elder, he stood at the entrance, not taking a single step forward.
The butler was stunned.
He had prepared at least five or six contingency plans in case Vincent stirred up trouble.
Now, all of them were useless.
This was unexpected.
Uh please wait here. I’ll go inform him right away!”
The butler practically sprinted to the villa.
Stella, confused, looked up at her grandfather.
“Why didn’t you just go in?”
If I’m here to apologize,” Vincent sighed, his eyes wet, “then I have to do it properly. Whether your cousin forgives me or not… I have to at least
try‘
He knew there was no undoing the past.
But he wanted to atone, even if it was just a little.
Maybe then, when his time came
He wouldn’t be too ashamed to face Evangeline.
Moments later, the butler rushed back.
“Uh. Sir, you can go home, Mr. Cassius said he never gets angry, and he never will. There’s no need for all this.”
