Chapter 245: Taking His Money Is Already Merciful
Silence fell over the group.
Sure, everyone loved a good piece of gossip.
But no one knew how to say it in front of Gemma.
Gemma looked around at the awkward faces and frowned. “What? Is this something I’m not allowed to hear?”
One of the new interns, a fresh–faced nurse, was a little too blunt.
“Well… maybe it’s because YOU are the gossip.”
Gemma, “…”
Okay, directness was fine. But did it have to be THIS direct?
She had been about to press for details when the hospital director walked in.
Normally, he was a kind and approachable old man–at least when dealing with them.
But right now? His face was a thundercloud, his expression so dark it could summon a hurricane.
Gemma forgot all about the gossip. She stepped forward immediately.
“Director, what’s wrong?”
Just a while ago, he had been busy coordinating a group of specialists to come in.
Now, he looked like this?
She was genuinely concerned.
But the moment the director saw her, his dark expression turned into… embarrassment?
“Ahem, Dr. Kelestine,” he said awkwardly. “If the hospital’s future were in your hands, what would you do?” Gemma was a pro at handling workplace nonsense. She answered without hesitation.
“Of course, I’d dedicate myself fully to the hospital and give it my all.”
If it was just empty words he wanted.
She could serve them right back.
She hadn’t expected-
The director actually beamed!

Even patted her on the shoulder with a look of deep satisfaction. “It’s truly the hospital’s honor to have you.”
Gemma,
Wait. Wasn’t he just supposed to nod, say “Good attitude,” and walk away?
Something was DEFINITELY off.
Before she could ask, he continued.
“There’s a batch of medical equipment at the hospital entrance. You need to sign for it.”
Huh?
Isn’t that the equipment department’s job?
She had already been shuffled from surgery to cardiology and now to Integrated Medicine. What next? Was she supposed to take over their department too?
At this rate, she wasn’t just an overworked employee–she was a slave in modern time.
“Director, are you serious?”
If it weren’t rude, she would’ve asked him to get a brain scan.
The director sighed, finally giving up on the act.
“It’s from Wilson.”
Gemma, “…”
There were many ways to kill her.
Did he have to piss her to death?
“Listen,” the director said quickly. “He specifically named you as the recipient. That gives you the right to decide what to do with it. If you donate the equipment to the hospital, I’ll agree to ANY condition you ask.”
Gemma narrowed her eyes. “Director… You do know my history with him, right? Honestly, I wouldn’t be surprised if there was something wrong with this equipment.”

The director, however, was firm.
“I already checked. Everything is brand new, shipped in directly from overseas.”
Gemma, “…”
“I get it, I get it,” the director continued. “You have your concerns. But this equipment could save a lot of people-”
Gemma had a headache.
The director’s persuasion was relentless.
“I know you won’t be interested in those reasons,” he went on.
“But more importantly, you should take a look at this.”
He pulled out a document. “So, you took only twenty million dollars in the divorce settlement, but as of now, you still haven’t received a single cent, have you?”
Gemma frowned as she took the contract and flipped through it.
The director pressed on.
“If you donate this equipment to the hospital, we’ll compensate you eighty million.”
The equipment was worth a lot–eighty million was basically at cost.
Honestly, it wasn’t a great deal for Gemma.
“But what choice did he have?
The hospital was broke.
Gemma had picked up some legal knowledge while fighting her divorce case. She could tell the contract was rushed, but it covered her well.
Marcus didn’t send the equipment out of the goodness of his heart.
If she refused to sign, he’d probably stand outside all day, causing a spectacle.
That wouldn’t be good for the hospital.
If the whole thing blew up online, it wouldn’t be good for her either.
But if she signed? She’d pocket eighty million. And when Marcus made his next move, she’d have the financial fire power to fight back.
“Alright, Director. Don’t worry. I’ll take care of it.”
The director looked ready to cry tears of gratitude.
Gemma walked outside and, sure enough, spotted two massive Steyr trucks parked by the entrance.
Marcus’s assistant, Hector, was already waiting. The moment he saw her, he ran over, handing her the receipt.
“Ma’am, this is a gift from Mr. Wilson.”
Gernma let out a cold laugh. “So if I sign, do I also have to listen to whatever nonsense he asked you to pass on?”
Hector smiled awkwardly.
She took the papers. “Go ahead. I won’t make this hard for you.”
Hector, relieved, quickly opened the recording app on his phone and started playing the message.
“Mrs. Wilson, Mr. Wilson says he knows–some things can’t be fixed with a simple ‘I’m sorry.‘ He also knows you don’t want to see him right now.”
“But through all these years, his feelings for you have never changed.”
“He’ll keep making it up to you.”
“And as long as you don’t want to see him, he promises he won’t show up uninvited.”
“This gift isn’t meant to pressure you–he just hopes it makes your work a little easier.”
“If you have any issues with the donation, feel free to contact me. Of course… it’d be even better if you contacted Mr. Wilson directly.”
Gemma raised an eyebrow. “That’s it?”
Hector hesitated, glancing at her in confusion.
Why wasn’t she moved?
The office ladies had practically been bawling when they heard this.
“Uh… yeah, that’s all.”
Hector felt even more awkward.
He quickly stopped the recording.
Gemma watched him fumble with his phone and found the whole thing incredibly dull.
“Where’s the donation paperwork? I’ll need a copy.”
Hector, “!!!”

How did she–a mere doctor–know about this?
Luckily, he had prepared in advance.
“Here it is.”
At his signal, a staff member stepped out of the truck, handing over the notarized documents.
Only with proper legal documentation could this be considered a real donation.
Gemma had to admit-
This time, Marcus actually did something right.
“Go back and tell Mr. Wilson–thanks for his generosity.”
With that, she signed the papers and motioned for her colleagues to start unloading the equipment.
Hector, “…That’s it?”
Gemma glanced at him. “How many thank–yous does he expect? I can say a few more if it helps.”
“Uh, no need.” Hector forced a laugh. He might as well make up a better version of events to cheer Mr. Wilson up himself.
He stepped aside, letting the trucks pull into the hospital lot.
Then, as if suddenly remembering something, he hesitated and asked.
If M
“If Mr. Wilson calls… would you consider answering? You know, for the sake of all this equipment?”
