Chapter 251: Need My Help? Dream On.
Ashton was a man of his word. The moment he made up his mind, he was ready to contact Gemma right away.
Except….
He didn’t have her mumber.
That’s when it hit him. Back when they first met, his whole family assumed Gemma would be the one sucking up to them.
None of them even thought about exchanging contact info with her.
And then she just slammed the door in their faces and walked out, setting off their collective rage.
Kaiya had been waiting for Ashton to put Gemma in her place.
But now, instead of making a call, he just stood there holding his phone?
She was stunned.
Did he… change his mind?
Her mind spun, and then-“Ah!” She let out a soft cry. “That hurts!”
Snapping out of his thoughts, Ashton immediately reached out to steady her.
You okay? Want me to call a specialist?”
Kaiya shook her head.
“It’s nothing. I probably just moved the wrong way and hit my wound. I don’t really know much about medicine.”
Hearing that, Ashton frowned again.
“Exactly. Which is why you need someone who does.”
Without another word, he pulled out his phone and shot a message to his assistant, telling him to contact Gemma.
In S City, Ashton was known for being swift and decisive. His word was law.
And yet, when it came to Gemma, he actually exercised restraint.
He was even giving her a way out.
Fine.
He was only doing this for his sister.
As long as Gemma showed up and took proper care of Kaiya, he’d let bygones be bygones.
He might even go out of his way to persuade his parents to officially bring her into the family.
“Don’t worry,” he reassured Kaiya. “Gemma will be here soon to take care of you.”
“Uncle Ash, my injury’s really not that serious. You don’t have to bother Dr. Kelestine–L…”
“I think she might still be upset about me being around. I… I don’t want to make things worse.”
Ashton sighed and tapped her forehead lightly.
“Silly girl. You’re always too kind. How am I supposed to trust you with my business empire?”
“Remember this–when you’re in charge, you use every resource at your disposal. Being useful to you is her privilege.”
“People who don’t have value? They’re fools. And fools either get used or end up as beggars.”
He felt like a nagging mom, patiently breaking everything down for her.
Kaiya lowered her head, murmuring.
“I get it, Uncle Ash. I just… Dr. Kelestine isn’t some random person, she…”
“Which is exactly why she should help,” Ashton cut in smoothly. “That’s how family bonds grow stronger. You don’t need to feel bad about it.”
He spoke with such certainty, as if he were doing Gemma a favor.
If anything, she should be thrilled and rush over immediately.
And once she did, as her uncle, he’d make sure to give her a proper scolding teach her a thing or two about respecting her elders.
If the wanted to be part of the Doltons, she needed to be vigilant at all times. She had to be willing to sacrifice for the family.
Gemma was smart. She’d understand. She’d be grateful.
Just picturing it put him in a better mood.
That’s when a voice interrupted, “Pardon me, but… what’s your relationship with Gemma?”
Brian had been listening in.
Since the name “Dr. Kelestine” came up multiple times, there was no way he could ignore it.

It was a slow night, and after treating Yvonne’s wound, there weren’t any other patients.
Kaiya perked up when she saw Brian approach.
Maybe she wasn’t the only one feeling a little spark–maybe Brian felt it too.
But Uncle Ash was strict… Would he scare Brian off?
She quickly stepped in to introduce them.
“Uncle Ash, this is Dr. Read. He helped me and Yvonne just now.”
“He’s an amazing doctor.”
“Dr. Read, this is my Uncle Ash–Mr. Ashton of the Doltons.”
She figured that should clear things up.
But Brian didn’t react the way she expected.
Instead of trying to win favor with the Doltons, he kept his gaze steady on Ashton.
“So… what exactly is your relationship with Dr. Kelestine?”
“Oh, Dr. Read, don’t get the wrong idea,” Kaiya said quickly. “We don’t mean any harm to Dr. Kelestine. Actually, she’s my cousin.”
“And he’s her biological uncle.”
“You might not know this, but Dr. Kelestine has already reconnected with her birth family. She’s a Dolton now.”
Brian had heard bits and pieces about that.
But the information was locked down tight–his usual sources couldn’t dig up the details.
So Gemma had officially joined the Doltons?
That was unexpected.
And worth celebrating.
“Apologies, Brian said, his tone calm. “I just wanted to make sure the hospital wasn’t at risk.”
Ashton glanced at Brian’s badge and instantly connected the dots-
Read Pharmaceuticals, a powerhouse in the industry.
“No need to apologize, Mr. Read. I understand your concern.”
This time, Ashton took the initiative to offer a handshake.
Brian, wanting to maintain a good relationship with Gemma’s family, shook his hand without hesitation.
Meanwhile, Yvonne and Kaiya were settled in the same hospital room.
As their attending physician, Brian personally oversaw the nurses running their tests.
Ashton, ever the smooth talker, chatted with him casually, making the whole exchange feel effortless.
But only he knew-
He was waiting.
Waiting for Gemma.
If she walked in and saw him getting along with her family, would she be happy?
Maybe, just maybe, she’d finally let go of her grudge over Harvey.
His heart tightened. All he could do now was hope everything went according to plan.
Meanwhile, Gemma had just arrived at the estate when Noah came running out, covered in mud, with Candy right behind him.
The kid and the dog were a mess–like they’d just rolled through a puddle.
Noah’s upbringing was well–rounded.
He was getting a top tier education, but he also had plenty of hands–on experiences.
As Cassius once put it–the mud was a gift from nature.
Gemma didn’t mind the dirt at all. She bent down and scooped them up.
Candy snuggled into Noah’s arms but kept stretching its little head out to nuzzle Gemma.
“You two are just too cute.”
She laughed, giving them both a good ruffle.
Right then, her phone buzzed,
Noah and Candy, knowing the drill, immediately hopped off her.
She glanced at the screen–an unknown number.

Frowning slightly, she still picked up.
As a doctor, she’d rather take a chance on a wrong number than miss an emergency.
“Ms. Kelestine, this is Zak, Mr. Ashton’s assistant. Please don’t hang up before I finish speaking.”
His tone was polite, making it hard to just cut him off.
“Go ahead,” she said, wondering what nonsense the Doltons were up to now.
“Mr. Ashton and Ms. Kaiya are currently at your hospital. Ms. Kaiya has an injury, and since you’re an expert, could you return to take a look?”
Gemma blinked.
“Wow. That karma sure works fast.”
Zak, “…”
“I’m off the clock. Unless the hospital officially calls me in, I’m not going back.”
“You’re his assistant, right? Then you should understand–no one likes getting work calls after hours.”
“Besides, I’m not a surgeon anymore. You really want to risk me botching the job and turning your precious Miss Dolton into a permanent patient?”
