Chapter 252: Gemma’s Here, Torture Her!
Zak wished the ground would just swallow him whole.
“Ms. Kelestine, can we not make this harder than it has to be?”
“You started it.”
“Are you sure you don’t want to go to the hospital?”
“As sure as gold is gold.” Gemma rolled her eyes internally.
These Doltons were all weird. Even their assistants were impossible.
Zak hesitated, then finally spoke.
“Ms. Kelestine, you might not realize how important this is for you.”
“Mr. Ashton said if you take good care of Ms. Kaiya, he’ll approve your request to reclaim your family name. He’ll also make sure Mr. and Mrs. Dolton agree.”
“Isn’t becoming a high–society heiress your biggest dream?”
“This is your golden ticket.”
Gemma stared at him, her face a perfect ???
Was narcissism a Dolton family tradition?
“Tell me something–how many times has the Dolton ancestral hall burned down?”
Zak, “???”
‘Go ask your dear Mr. Ashton. If he can answer that, I’ll go to the hospital.”
Zak had no clue what she meant.
He had no choice but to consult with others.
After some discussion, someone finally figured it out.
“She’s basically saying, ‘Your family temple has burned to ashes–what’s the point of reclaiming your name?”
Zak, “…”
If he told Mr. Ashton that, the guy would skin him alive.
With no better option, Zak carefully chose his words and called Ashton.
“Mr. Ashton, Dr. Kelestine isn’t available right now, but she’ll be at work in the morning. She’ll definitely be there then.”
To his surprise, Ashton didn’t blow up at him. Instead, he just told him to clock out.
Zak almost thought the sun had risen in the west.
Meanwhile, at the hospital-
When Ashton got the call, his first thought was that Gemma was being ungrateful.
Instinctively, he wanted his assistant send him the number so he could deal with her personally.
But before he could, Brian spoke up.
“Dr. Kelestine is really busy. Let’s not disturb her. Unless, Uncle Ash, you don’t trust my medical skills?”
Hearing that, Ashton’s mood instantly improved.
After all, the Read Group was a major player in the industry. Not on the Doltons‘ level, but still.
And Brian calling him Uncle? That was unexpected.
A pleasant surprise.

“Of course, you have my trust. Dr. Read.” He glanced at Kaiya, who lay on the hospital bed, her face slightly flushed. Yeah. He got it now..
“With you taking care of Kaiya, I’m completely at ease.”
Kaiya’s face turned an even deeper shade of red.
She quickly looked away, afraid someone might catch on to her thoughts..
Gemma was giving Candy a bath when she sneezed out of nowhere.
Who’s bad–mouthing me now?
She flipped through her mental list of grudges but hadn’t settled on a suspect before the hospital called.
The Chavez family’s kid had a sudden complication. She needed to get there ASAP.

Chapter 252: Gemma’s Here, Torture Her!
No choice–she had to hand over half–washed Candy to Noah.
“This is a very important mission. I trust you’ll complete it with excellence.”
Noah, who had just put on a waterproof apron, looked at her, deadpan.
“Gemma, you’re exploiting me. Child labor laws, ever heard of them?”
Gemma raised a brow. “Oh? You know about child labor? Impressive. In that case, I’ll compensate you later. But right now, I’m busy.”
Noah sighed dramatically. “Fine. Guess that’s the price of loving you so deeply.”
He scooped Candy up.
The little furball was well–behaved, just stretching out a tiny, fluffy paw to wave goodbye.
Gemma made a promise.
“I’ll bring back treats and toys next time.”
That got them both to brighten up.
As she stepped out, she spotted Cassius standing nearby.
The moon was out tonight, silver light casting everything in a soft glow. Under it, Cassius looked almost gentle.
“Since you’re heading out, I got you a car.”
At his words, a sleek black luxury car rolled up to the estate’s entrance.
Gemma gave a small nod and headed for the car naturally. But just before getting in, she turned back.
“Will the clinic be finished by tomorrow?”
Cassius stood in the shadows, his presence overwhelming–like he owned the world.
Every word that left his mouth carried absolute certainty.
“It will.”
The kind of promise that made people feel safe.
Satisfied, Gemma got in.
The engine roared to life, and in the next second, the car shot off like a bullet.
At the hospital.
From the surgical ward’s window, the parking lot was in full view.
It was late.
Everything was quiet.
Even the smallest sound carried.
Kaiya and Yvonne had started chatting with Brian.
Despite his usual cold demeanor, Brian was surprisingly warm tonight, making conversation flow easily.
Ashton, the designated “old man” in the room, stood by the window, sipping strong tea.
Suddenly-
Blinding headlights cut through the darkness, forcing him to squint.
The light was so harsh, it even disrupted the conversation behind him.
Brian immediately made a judgment.
“That’s a modified headlight. Standard ones don’t shine that bright.”
Kaiya’s eyes sparkled. “Brian, you even know that?”
Yep. She had completely abandoned “Dr. Read” for Brian.
Brian didn’t mind. If he ended up with Gemma, that would make him Kaiya’s brother–in–law anyway.
And these days, people thought “brother–in–law” sounded old–fashioned, so they just went with the name.
He was fine with it.
“Just a little,” he said modestly.
“I don’t mess around with cars much.”
Kaiya’s enthusiasm didn’t waver. “I’ve got a few good ones in my garage. Next time you’re in S City, you have to check them out.”
Brian neither agreed nor refused, just gave an awkward smile.
Ashton, meanwhile, had also noticed the ridiculously modified car. Curious, he wanted to see who owned it.
Under the streetlights, a figure stepped out of the luxury car.

He froze.
That face.
Probably sensing that she was being stared at, the woman even raised her eyes to look this way.
Flawless. Stunning. Absolutely dazzling under the lights.
Gemma.
His gaze flicked back to the car.
A global limited–edition Phantom.
A small–town nobody like her? Owning that? Impossible.
Must’ve been Cassius.
Yeah. That made sense.
For a man like Cassius, this kind of car was pocket change.
And if Gemma had borrowed it, it must mean she was finally getting her act together–rushing here to take care of Kaiya.
At least she had some sense.
Better than her cold, heartless mother.
Since Brian was here, Ashton decided to go easy on her. No need to make her kneel and apologize–just have her clean Kaiya up a bit.
He had hired nurses, sure.
But no way were they as skilled as a doctor.
And Gemma was technically an expert.
With that in mind, he leaned against the window, glancing toward Kaiya’s bed.
Lifting his chin slightly, his tone was sinug.
“Gemma came rushing over.”
