Chapter 276: I Won’t Forgive Gemma
The day of the surgery.
Kaiya deliberately sent someone over with urgent news–Ashton had a secret child.
Jonathan and Madeline had been waiting for the day their three children would settle down and start families.
Too bad the eldest only cared about work, the second had zero interest in relationships, and Ashton–after getting his heart broken–wanted nothing to do with marriage.
Now, hearing that there was a grandchild? The Doltons finally had an heir! Of course, they had to go see for themselves.
Kaiya told them not to rush and immediately had the butler arrange a car and driver.
She also prepared a few gifts.
Madeline was pleased to see how thoughtful she was.
“Kaiya, you’ve really grown up. Are you happy? You’ll have a cousin!”
“Of course, Grandma! But I still want to be with you and Grandpa more.”
Madeline’s heart instantly melted.
“You really are my little sweetheart.”
“If she’s your little sweetheart, then what about me?”
Abigail stepped out of the car just in time to hear their
ersation.
Madeline was caught off guard, then her face lit up with excitement.
“Abigail! What are you doing here?”
Abigail walked up and hugged her.
“Mom, I missed you. Thought I’d drop by and surprise you.”
Madeline’s smile grew even wider.
“You and that sweet mouth of yours.”
“I’m just telling the truth! Why don’t you believe me?” Abigail pouted dramatically.
Madeline fell for it, her eyes suddenly welling up with tears.
“You really are the most thoughtful one.”
Kaiya chimed in, “Mom, come with us to meet my little cousin!”

Abigail raised an eyebrow. “Cousin? Since when do you have a new cousin? Whose kid is i
Kaiya quickly summed up the situation.
Abigail’s face lit up with amusement.
it?
*Ash, seriously? He could’ve at least introduced her to Mom first. What’s with the whole secret baby
Her offhand comment immediately put the two elders on high alert.
This wasn’t as simple as it seemed.
They exchanged glances, their expressions turning serious.
Just then, the car arrived.
act?”

Everyone got in, but since the matter was still uncertain, Madeline stayed quiet, and no one else dared bring it up.
Before long, they arrived at the hospital.
As they entered the private facility, they spotted Ashton right away.
“Ashton!”
Jonathan’s face darkened, his voice sharp.
Ashton thought he misheard at first. But when he turned around and saw the entire Dolton family standing there, his expression changed instantly.
For a long moment, he just stood there, stunned.
Madeline wasted no time stepping forward and grabbing his sleeve.
“Why are you outside the operating room! Who’s in there?”
Ashton took a deep breath, forcing himself to stay calm.
“Mom, it’s just a friend. They needed my help. You guys shouldn’t get involved”
Madeline scoffed. “You’re still trying to hide things from me?”

Jonathan shoved him lightly. “Do you really think I don’t know? The one in there is my grandson, isn’t it?”
Ashton had already prepared for the worst, but hearing Jonathan say it out loud still rattled him.
The only thing he was grateful for was that he had moved the baby here.
At least Christine wasn’t around–otherwise, the old couple would’ve lost their minds.
“Mom, Dad… Since you already know, I won’t hide it anymore.”
He sighed and spoke slowly.
“He’s my son. He’s still young and has Menkes, a rare disease. Surgery is the only option.”
“No matter what, I won’t give up on him. Even if you try to talk me out of it, I won’t back down. I’ll do whatever it takes to keep him alive.”
Madeline smacked his arm.
“You idiot! Why would we ask you to give him up? I’ve been dreaming of the day you’d finally settle down and have kids!”
Abigail chimed in.
“Ash, I know you still resent Mom and Dad for what happened back then.”
“But it’s been years. You’ve found someone new, you have a child now. Maybe it’s time to let the past go.”
Madeline immediately added.
“I have no regrets about what happened. A woman like Christine has no place in this family!”
Ashton, “…”
He shot Abigail a look. If he didn’t know better, he’d think she was stirring things up on purpose.
“Fine, Mom. As long as you’re not asking me to give up my son, I have nothing to worry about. Let’s just wait here for the surgery to be over.”
Madeline nodded and signaled everyone to stay quiet.
Then-
The operating room doors swung open.
A doctor stepped out, frowning in frustration.
“Mr. Dolton, if you don’t trust my skills, just say so. No need to play games with me.”
Ashton was confused. “Dr. Green, what are you talking about?”
Dr. Green scoffed.
“I ran pre–op tests on the child. The numbers don’t match, and the blood type is wrong. This isn’t your son.”
“Also, the baby hasn’t been given histidine copper, which means his condition isn’t stable for surgery. Take him back.”

With that, Dr. Green walked off, clearly annoyed.-
A nurse soon wheeled the baby out.
Ashton rushed forward.
Newborns change quickly in their first days.
At first, he’d noticed something was a little off, but he assumed it was just the illness.
Looking at the baby now-
This wasn’t his son.
Shit.
Last night, he had been distracted, talking to Christine. Had he picked up the wrong baby?
His face darkened.
What would Gemma do to his child?
He didn’t dare think about it.
“Ashton! Where are you going? You haven’t even explained things yet!”
Madeline called after him when he suddenly bolted.
Abigail held her back. “Mom, don’t worry. He probably just realized the baby got switched and went to find his real son.”
Kaiya suddenly spoke up.
I’ve heard of this disease before. Didn’t Cousin Gemma treat a case like this before? Maybe the baby’s at her hospital)”
Abigail sighed. “It’s like finding a needle in a haystack, but it’s our best shot.
“Mom, what do you think?”
Madeline had only one thought her grandson.
She didn’t care about anything else.

“Let’s go!”
The driver floored it.
As they pulled up to the hospital, Kaiya suddenly pointed.
“Look! Isn’t that Uncle Ash? He’s here too! That must mean my cousin is really inside!”
She quickly jumped out and helped the elders out of the car.
She and Abigail exchanged a knowing glance, a small smile passing between them.
Madeline, completely focused on her grandson, rushed forward.
“Is Gemma the one doing the surgery?”
“If she dares lay a finger on my grandson, I swear–I won’t forgive her!”
