Chapter 3: Decisive Divorce–The Scum Duo Is Perfect Match

Marcus smirked like he’d heard the funniest joke of the year. “You’re jealous again, aren’t you? Jealous of me is one thing, but you’re even holding a child’s words against him?”
Gemma’s expression turned cold. Tm talking about divorce. Are you too scared to have the conversation?”
Caught off guard. Marcus’s face darkened with anger. “Do you think you can still thrive at the hospital without me?”
“Even the strongest leash can’t hold back a dog that’s determined to run away. Divorce is just self–preservation–avoiding a bite on the way out.”
“You dare insult me? Marcus snapped, gripping her jaw tightly. “Gemma Kelestine, you’ve grown bold!”
Gemma sneered. “So? Are we doing this or not?”
“Fine! But don’t
you regret it!”
“The only regret I have is not leaving sooner!”
Marcus’s molars ground together in frustration as he released her with a forceful shove.
“Alright! I’ll see you at the court this afternoon!” he spat before storming off.
There was a time when Marcus’s cold dismissals cut her like a blade, leaving her heart shattered.
Then came the despair, the numbness, and eventually, this–clarity.
Now, as he walked away, all she felt was relief.
The air without that mutt felt REFRESHING.
Unable to suppress her laughter, she quickly headed back to her office.
First, she double–checked that all the documents she needed for the divorce were in order. Then she requested time off from her supervisor.
Meanwhile, Marcus drove straight to Mabel’s hospital room.
Mabel was casually munching on snacks while hooked up to her IV. Alijah’s treats were piled high on her bedside table, evidence of his recent visit.

“Max, you’re back already? Did you smooth things over with Gemma?”
Marcus’s expression darkened.
“You said you wanted Gemma to remain my attending doctor. Where is she?”
“Did something come up? Should I go=”
Sensing the tension in his voice, Mabel paused mid–sentence, her tone cautious. “Gemma… she’s not still
Marcus snorted dismissively. “She’s making a scene about a divorce.”
Though her heart leaped with joy, Mabel’s face contorted into a show of grief. “This is all my fault.”
“Max, you mustn’t agree to it”
“Go apologize to her, please. She’s just being impulsive.”
Marcus’s initial plan to ignore the situation wavered, replaced by mounting irritation.
“Impulsive?”
Then let her learn the consequences of her impulsiveness!”
“Even if she begs me on her knees to take her back, I won’t agreel”

Covering her face, Mabel whimpered. T’m so sorry. I’ve ruined everything. I never should’ve come back.”
“This has nothing to do with you,” Marcus said, his tone softening at her tears. “Don’t blame yourself.”

Mabel shook her head. “Let me come with you. I want to help you talk to Gemma.”
At first, Marcus wanted to refuse, but memories of Gemma’s frosty demeanor made him reconsider.
“Fine”
By 3 p.m. Gemma had been waiting outside the court for half an hour. She grew anxious, fearing Marcus might back out at the last minute.
Just as she reached for her phone to call him, a familiar luxury car rolled to a stop beside her.
Marcus stepped out of the car without sparing her a glance. He circled to the other side and carefully helped Mabel out.
Alijah quickly followed, having been picked up early by Marcus.
Marcus’s reasoning was self–righteous. “Since we’re getting divorced, the kid has a right to know,”
He didn’t care if this decision might scar the boy
Clinging to Marcus’s hand, Alijah said nervously, “Dad, I don’t want to go with Mom. I want to stay with you!”
Hearing that, Gemma felt an unexpected sense of relief.
“Don’t worry. I’m not fighting for custody.”
Alijah’s eyes widened in shock, and a trace of panic flashed across his young face.
Mabel immediately pulled him behind her, speaking in a coaxing tone.
“Gemma, stop this nonsense. Max really hasn’t done anything to betray you.”
Gemma raised a brow. “What are you, Ms. Johnson, his personal spy under the bed? How do you know so much?”
Mabel’s face stiffened, and then tears began to fall dramatically. “L. I didn’t mean…”
Predictably, Marcus was furious. “Gemma, you’ve gone too far! You want a divorce? Just don’t come begging me later!” Instead of anger, Gemma laughed coldly. “Fine. Whoever regrets it is a dog!”
Marcus assumed she was bluffing.
She’d be crying soon enough, so he ignored her and led Alijah into the court.
Mabel trailed behind and, as she passed Gemma, her mask of innocence vanished. “After all this, he still chose me,” she sneered
Gemma gave a small nod. “Of course. Dogs always return to their vomit.”
Mabel’s a
expression darkened, “How dare you talk to me like that”
Gemma tilted her head, smirking. “I treat people as they deserve. What you are determines the face you get.

‘ve got guts! Just wait until you’re divorced. See how I deal with you!”
“Don’t gnash your teeth so hard. You may not fear dogs, but I do.”
With that, Gemma strode into city hall, leaving Mabel seething, her face twisted in fury.
Divorce required mediation. As the lawyer droned on, Gemma found the speech unbearably noisy.
Marcus, noting her lowered head, assumed she was regretting it.
“If you beg now-
“Excuse me, can we take a break and get this over already? I really don’t have all day for this,” Gemma cut him off, standing to fetch water for the staff.
The staff hesitated, then sighed. “Alright. Best of luck to both of you.”
As the red stamp landed, Marcus’s expression turned icy.

Because of their premp, Gemma’s waiving of property rights, and her decision to forgo custody, all she asked for was 20 million in alimony.
The staff double–checked everything several times.
Genuma thought it was a sweet deal. Her monthly salary was only 12k, even with her surgical overtime. She’d need six years. of burning out yet being far away from making that kind of money.
This divorce was worth it.
“I have no issues,” she said, feeling nothing but exhilaration and freedom
Marcus glanced at her. The soft porcelain complexion of her face caught his eye, radiant and glowing, likely from a good night’s sleep.
Her delicate features, coupled with those calm, almond–shaped eyes, exuded quiet elegance.
But beneath that serene beauty lay a cold detachment that kept him at bay.
His mind wandered to their shared memories, her once–vibrant spirit, and the warm glow she used to have,
A strange unease stirred in him.
Before he could speak, the staff handed over the stamped papers.
“Now begins the 30–day cooling–off period. After that, both of you must return to collect the final divorce certificate.” Marcus froze.
