Chapter 42
The hospital’s warning text still burned in my mind as my heels clicked against the courthouse marble floor.
Caspian’s safe, Rachel’s behind bars. Today, we end this.
My phone vibrated another message from an unknown number. Happy judgment day, little sister. Even if you win, you ll never erase the memory of that nicht. R

Rachel might be locked up, but her mind games continued
Not that it mattered anymore.
Six years of running had led to this moment, and I wasn’t backing down.
“There she is a reporter called as I reached the courthouse steps.
The media swarmed, microphones thrust toward my face like weapons
Blake and Marcus waited near the entrance, their presence steadying me
“Caspian’s already inside,” Blake explained. “Doctor says he shouldn’t even be out of the hospital yet, but he insisted on being h
Marcus handed me a manila folder.
“From Amanda. She risked everything to get this–internal memos proving Palmer deliberately sabotaged Caspian’s contract.”
We pushed through the reporters, their questions flying like arrows
“Ms. Winters, confident about winning against the wealthiest NFL owner?”
“How is Mr. Drake recovering from his gunshot wound?”
“Is it true you and Drake knew each other in high schoni?”
Inside, I spotted Caspian waiting by the courtroom door, pale but determined.
His tailored suit couldn’t hide the weakness in his stance or the careful way he held his injured shoulder.
“Good morning, counselor,” he said, those green eyes lighting up despite his obvious pais. “Ready to make Palmer pay?”
“You should still be in the hospital,” I replied, noticing the tremor in his hand.
“And miss watching you destroy the man who hired Rachel to terrorize us? A smile tugged at his lips. “Not a chance.
I handed him the day’s documents, our fingers brushing briefly. “I trust you, Sage,” he said softly. “Always have.“
The simple statement hit me with unexpected force. Trust. After everything we’d been through.

As we approached the courtmom, I spotted Jeffrey Palmer across the hall in his fifty–thousand–dollar suit, raising his glass in a mocking toast.

Beside me, Caspian tensed, rage visible in every line of his body.
That bastard,” he hissed. He paid Rachel to shoot me, and now he’s standing there like nothing happened.”
““Stay calm,” 1 murmured, touching hitam. “That’s exactly what he wants.”
Caspian went to get water, and immediately reporters descended on me.
Before I could escape, a familiar voice cut through the chaos

“Morgan & Wright’s star attomey?”
I nearly choked on my own saliva. “Olivia? What are you doing here?
She smoothed her Chanel suit. “Oh, you didn’t know? Mr. Palmer decided he needed a more… experienced attorney.”
‘Sterling family connections paving your way again.”
“Don’t be jealous, darling.” Her gaze traveled dismissively over my discount suit.
“An intern in secondhand suits against Palmer Enterprises? It’s the funniest thing I’ve heard all week.”
“At least I earned my position,” I shot back, “instead of buying it with daddy’s checkbook.”
Olivia’s eyes suddenly focused on something behind me.
–
“Sterling Caspian’s voice was ice cold as he returned. “Didn’t expect to see you here.”
Olivia visibly tensed. “Mr. Drake, I was just… comparing notes with my colleague.”
“Looked more like harassment of my attorney. Casplan handed me a cup, his arm coming protectively around my side.
“Last person who threatened Sage ended up in prison. Hope you’re smarter than Rachel,”
“Sterling!” Jeffnery Palmer called impatiently from the courtroom doorway. “We’re going in. Now”
As she walked away, she called over her shoulder: “See you in court, losers.”
