Chapter 12
Ronald stared at his phone’s blank screen and scoffed, tossing it onto the table.
So now she couldn’t even bother to reply to his messages?
Elsie’s stubborn little face flashed through his mind, and his expression grew more mocking.
Did she become complacent the moment he showed her a little kindness?
And she had the nerve to mention divorce?
He hadn’t even brought it up yet!
Who else in this world would love a mute girl like her besides him?
Missy walked over with a plate of fruit, sitting down next to Ronald, keeping a careful distance.
“Ronald, what did Elsie say? Does she still want a divorce?”
Her face showed the proper concern, looking as delicate as a little white flower.
Ronald’s voice was steady and firm. “Don’t worry; I won’t divorce Elsie.”
“What?” Meeting Ronald’s probing gaze, Missy gave an awkward smile. “I didn’t mean anything by it, just happy for Elsie.”
Missy’s heart felt like it was being roasted over a fire.
Elsie was just a lowly mute girl. What right did she have to Ronald’s love?
Ronald should be hers!
“I’m so envious of Elsie having you to protect her, while I…”
Before she could finish, tears started to fall, and Missy placed a hand on her slightly swollen belly, her face full of sorrow, her voice breaking.
“Ronald, why? Why does Elsie get everything from you and still want to destroy me? Why can’t she let me go when she’s so blissfully happy?”
Ronald’s heart skipped a beat, Elsie’s face flashing in his mind, leaving him conflicted. “Maybe she didn’t mean to.”
Missy continued to cry. “How can you say that? How could something like this not be intentional?
“I’m your savior. How can you always defend Elsie?”
“I’m carrying a rapist’s child!”
“Do you know how much I want to die every day I’m pregnant?”
“My health is weak. If I abort this child, I’ll never be able to have children again.”
“But I want to be a mother!”

Chapter 12
Missy swayed, her eyes rolling back as if she couldn’t take the stress ollapsing into Ronald’s arms.
She leaned against Ronald, het tears soaking his suit instantly. ‘Ronald, how am I supposed to live?
Ronald looked at Missy, and it seemed he saw the little girl who had saved him all those years ago. His expression shifted immediately, and a profound sense of guilt overwhelmed him.
He had been preoccupied with how Elsie could commit such an act, forgeffing entirely the immense impact it had on Missy.
And Missy was his savior.
He gently moved Missy from his shoulder to the couch, turning to look her in the eyes.
He promised solemnly and firmly, “Don’t worry. You can have this child. No one will ever know its true parentage. It will be your child.”
Missy felt a surge of joy but kept her face sorrowful, her eyes filled with hope and insecurity as she looked at Ronald. “Really? Will you help me raise this child?”
Ronald, with his affluent background, didn’t hesitate to nod.
Missy grabbed Ronald’s hand and placed it on her slightly rounded belly, wiping away her tears.
“Baby, did you hear that? From now on, you’ll have someone to protect you!”
Missy thought, ‘Elsie, Ronald is mine. No matter how hard you try to avoid divorce, Ronald’s heart will never be with you!”
Ronald’s fingers curled as he pulled his hand back, picking up his phone from the table as it lit up.
He swiped it open to see a series of photos sent by the bodyguard following Elsie.
His grip tightened, anger flaring up inside him.
The photos showed Elsie and another man smiling at each other, their mutual trust and understanding almost making Ronald see
.red.
He hadn’t even agreed to the divorce yet, and Elsie had already found herself a lover?
He had really underestimated this mute girl!
“I have to go. There’s something at the office,” Ronald said, standing up and leaving without waiting for Missy’s response.
Missy didn’t mind. She lowered her neckline, rubbing her collarbone until it turned red.
She opened her phone’s camera, aiming it at the room behind her, making sure to capture her reddened collarbone in the shot.
She took several photos, unable to choose the best one, so she sent them all to Elsie.
[Elsie, I’ve moved in. Your room’s decor is so terrible; I’m going to redecorate it, okay?]
[And your study, it’s the perfect size for a nursery. I’ll just throw your stuff out, alright?]
[Ronald will call you about the divorce soon. You better agree like you said you would!]
Elsie’s phone buzzed, interrupting her piano playing. She opened the messages from Missy.

Chapter 12
The sight of the red marks on Missy’s collarbone made her eyes sting her heart aching as if it had been ripped out.
Bruce noticed Elsie’s distress, a look of concern crossing his refined features. “What’s wrong?”
Elsie’s fingers turned white, her hand gestures weak. “Nothing.
Just then, her phone rang sharply. Elsie glanced at the screen and immediately hung up.
But the phone kept ringing persistently.
Elsie had no choice but to answer.
The male voice on the other end of the line was steeped in fury.
“Elsie! I haven’t agreed to the divorce yet, and you’re already out there seducing other men? Can you stop being so cheap?”
Ronald’s words were like a blizzard, freezing the sadness in Elsie’s heart.
Suddenly, she couldn’t understand why she was so upset.
What was there to be sad about with someone as crude and barbaric as Ronald? If Missy wanted him, she could have him.
In this world, there were countless things deserving her attention, like the children in this sanatorium.
What did Ronald matter?
Even as she thought this, her eyes still reddened.
Elsie couldn’t speak, her red–rimmed eyes and helpless expression stirring Bruce’s protective instincts.
Bruce grabbed the phone, his voice cold. “You must be Ronald?”
“Our relationship isn’t what you think. Besides, Elsie is divorcing you, isn’t she?”
“Everyone knows you have a mistress. You can’t even control your own desires, so what right do you have to talk about Elsie?”
“Who are you to interfere in my and Elsie’s business?” Ronald’s voice rose even higher. “Elsie! Didn’t you say you wanted a divorce before? Come back to the villa immediately! I’ll divorce you!”
